Supertall Print and Play + Status updates!

Hello everyone!

Hope all is well. We have a few things for you today. Some updates and a new game file. :)

Package Update

Our last set of packages went out over the last few days and should be arriving now. These are the March Packages, but we also sent them to everyone that was overdue, and waiting. But we are rocking and rolling and working to catch up. I’ve said this a few times, but I’m done with part-time work on 6/13, and we are absolutely getting ahead on everything here. In fact we started discussing 2019 postcard ideas this week.

T-Shirts

The next batch of T-Shirts went out to $20 supporters. If you are a $20 supporter that has been here for more than 3 months and you haven’t received a shirt yet (or in this new package), please let me know. If you are 3 months or less, yours will be coming soon.

Supertall - Print and Play

We have a full color PNP of our next wallet game, Supertall! The files are below. But first, here’s some info about it.

In the heart of the city, steel beams race skyward. While other cities seem to sprawl endlessly outwards, the city planners are looking up - up - UP! Real estate prices are skyrocketing, and it’s time for a new new class of skyscraper, the Supertall, to reshape the skyline

In Supertall, 2-3 players are competing developers, presenting their plans for new skyscrapers. Using the 18 Plan cards that show the amenities the city has issued permits for, players must carefully choose which plans to add to their growing skyscrapers, which plans to pass to their rivals, and which plans to leverage in order to shuffle the designs around. Once all the plans have been reviewed, developers will collect profits based on the mix of Residential, Business, Entertainment, and Garden Space in their buildings. But City Hall will heavily tax one of those types based on lobbying, eliminating the profits, so make sure you have a backup plan. With hard work and good planning, you can rise to the top.

Designed by Nat Levan (New Bedford, and our very own Timestamp and nano games) with art by Marty Cobb.

Supertall is coming to Kickstarter on Wed 6/20. We were Kickstarting thematically linked games together in 2018, but we decided to break them into their own campaigns for maximum visibility. So far so good with Sprawlopolis, so we’ll see how the next few do as well.

If you play and want to give us feedback or if you have rules questions, please use the links below. Also feel free to share images and thoughts online, just don't give the files away. :)

Other than that we are pushing forward with other projects. We are hiring some new artists now in a variety of styles, so if anyone knows artists that are 1) great at art, 2) great at communication, and 3) affordable, please let me know!

Fourth'ed!!!! - Checking back on a regular basis........

HarkWhoGoesThere!

We must be getting close to next shipments which means daily mailbox checking later this week or next. Can't wait!

We read it as all legal targets are viable. I also recommend emphasizing City Hall's adjacency. I think that is the most under-realized option when teaching.

Travis Morton

Thirded! Any extra Dsyx would be awesome.

Justin Wawrzonek

Seconded! That would be great and very much appreciated.

Norman Friis

Any possibility that the March package files (Dsyx & Timestamp) go into the Dropbox? I believe the Dsyx you put in was the April one. Thanks.

Stuart Detsky

If you want to use a 'Rezone' ability, are you only able to use these on your own skyscrapers are is it possible to mess with your opponents skyscrapers as well?

Mike Schröder

Oh wow. April, May, June, and Stew/ABC fulfillment all in a short time. Noice!

braigoPN

The reality is I want to help fulfill the destiny of each BGOTM game to be played! Clearer rules, FAQ's and play-through videos (and a bit of patience) will all help with that. :)

Liz Lam

I have to agree with Liz about the rules. The less space you have for them, the harder they tend to be to fully understand. Twin Stars may be the main exception to wallet games generally being clear -- the overall rules of the system there are fine, but every scenario has its own rules that go on a playing card and thus are condensed enough to be harder to understand (IMO, of course). As for Timestamp, I think rules are posted on the web and those need catching up, too. I got the general idea when I tried it the first one, but don't expect to play it much (I'm mainly a solo gamer). Banned Books has worked OK for me, but as mentioned on Twitter, some symbols on the character cards were apparently not explained in the rules. I don't know if that's worth a rules edit and reprint or just a FAQ, but I assume you'll address it officially somewhere when you can. I know you're busy.

James M.

I’m not 100% sure I can pull it off but if more than one late package is here at the same time, there’s no reason to hold back.

Button Shy

Thanks for the info. So you're thinking three months go out at once, around the end of June or early July then? I didn't expect the whole backlog to be eliminated at once like that, but it would definitely catch us up.

James M.

This feedback is great and very helpful. I appreciate it and will be working to improve all of these things. :)

Button Shy

I totally understand the time thing. I've seen a bunch of your play through videos and I think you do fine! Just a thought, I've been a BGOTM club for about a year now and the wallet games are usually fine, but sometimes the limited space for rules makes it a little harder to figure out the other micro games. For example, I feel confident (and love playing) about Banned Books, but I'm still not totally sure how to play Timestamp. Anyways, I totally love the wallet games and the other content I can play and don't want to be too critical. Just giving some friendly feedback.

Liz Lam

There were two hold ups before. 1) time and 2) talent. I couldn’t keep up with the packages, so adding the videos was too hard, but I’ve fixed the time issue. The talent on the other hand... I’ve shot and deleted so many playthrough videos because I feel like I’m just terrible at it. I can work to get over that. OR pay someone to make the videos. Months just seem to fly by here. Hope that all changes with my new schedule.

Button Shy

Thank you too Norman!

Stuart Detsky

I know you're busy, Jason, but it would be nice to get play-through videos of the BGOTM games. Just my $.02.

Liz Lam

Looking forward to this one!

Liz Lam

If all goes well, I’ll have April May and June here in 3 weeks.

Button Shy

Thanks for jumping in on this Norman.

Button Shy

How soon do you expect April to be sent out? No rush, just curious.

braigoPN

I don't think Jason created an image for it, but in the comments of an update from April he posted that May would be: "At $5 - Timestamp: Moonbase, Banned Books: Huck, another Legends of Dsyx roll and write. At $10 - Blorg in the Midwest story based solo game. And $20 - Arcane Bakery Clash wallet game and Kickstarter stretch goals."

Norman Friis

You just posted the June teaser and mentioned the April teaser in text a few posts ago. What about May?

Stuart Detsky

Oh yeah by the way, I just got the latest shipment but don’t have a t-shirt yet. Not sure if I’m supposed to have one yet, but there it is. :)
