Some fun facts: Even tho Free is a swimming anime, it immediately got stamped as "fujobait" (Fujoshi refers to females (Fudanshi the male version), which tend to be into hot guys and boys love and stuff like that), saying that it's all fanservice.... When it's lit. about swimming, and that just is the clothes you wear (or don't) when doing that. so, especially a lot of guys, never gave it a chance, or only watched it "as a joke" or something. Which is a shame. IMHO it's one of the best sports anime out there and at the same time, one of the best coming of age. As you saw it has beautiful animation, the VA are stacked (For example the pink hair guy with the shark teeth is voiced by Mamoru Miyano - the Legend, he is basically the MJ of Voice Actors) [note: I am super into voice actors, so this is super important to me] I highly recommend watching it! It's very wholesome with some drama, comedy, beautiful moments, hype moments, and I dare say, it's even more inspiring than YoI! Free! Consists of multiple seasons and movies and tells the story of Haru and everything and everyone surrounding him. We accompany him throughout school and college, as well as his teammates and other people he meets and says goodbye to along the way The Band OLDCODEX that did the openings actually disbanded, with their last song being the opening of the last Free Movie! https://myanimelist.net/people/17151/OLDCODEX They also did a lot fo Kuroko No Basket. I love all their songs! There is one on a single of the Free opening called "Abendsonne" (german: Evening Sun) very beautiful. makes me always feel all nostalgic. I recommend checking out the Endings! They are actually sung by the main 5 Voice actors and they call that group "Style 5". The first ending "Splash Free" will forever be my absolute favorite summer song, it makes me sooo thirsty! and also makes me wanna swim all the time The actual OST of the songs is sooo good, and i listen to it while in the water (using boneconductor headset) I had the honor of meeting the composer and getting his autograph on a character canvas <3 As someone who loves always being in the water, i totally relate to the MC. 2024-08-10 08:48:04 +0000 UTCLETS GOOOOO FREE back when it came out in 2013, free was actually pretty big for a good few years! i remember first watching it back when the first two seasons were out, and i absolutely LOVED it. it has stunning animation, lovable characters & really nice character dynamics, and i remember the story being very good, too! i'd say it's a healthy mix of comedy, suspense & lots, LOTS of emotion. unfortunately, nowadays many people probably don't know too much about it, which is honestly a shame. it might partially be because despite being a sports anime, i'd argue that free had a different target audience than, say, haikyuu, kuroko no basket, blue lock etc., so even when people DO talk about the sports genre, free isn't typically on the radar. now! to answer some of your questions: - the openings are from the anime's three seasons & one from a movie or OVA special, i dont fully remember which. 1, 2 & 4 are sung by OLDCODEX (the lead singer of which actually voices the green-haired guy in the show!), while the third one from what i can tell sounds like it's sung by the voice actors themselves. - while there is one MAIN protagonist (the one with the dark-blue/blackish hair & blue eyes), as with most sports anime, free does a good job of giving every character their fair amount of spotlight, so all in all, it's more like there's one main cast, with certain characters sticking out at different times. considering it's also a fairly short watch (36 episodes plus a movie mainly, if i'm not misremembering), i'd DEFINITELY suggest this series, it's become such an underrated gem. even compared to other sports anime, i'd say that free is a bit...unique, in the way it presents the relationships between characters and their growth as a whole, and i mean that in a good way, personally! there's so much to say about this anime honestly, but i've already rambled on enough, so unless you have any more specific questions i'll shut up now LMAO. really happy you decided to check these openings out & i'd recommend the endings too, they're really fun! anyway, hope you're having a lovely weekend, gaz!
