2024-06-24 07:02:30 +0000 UTCas someone who watched the first season back when it came out & is now mostly caught up with the manga, this one will always hold a special place in my heart. without diving into any spoilers: the premise of "the devil is a part-timer" is at first, pretty simple. satan, his right-hand man & the heroine somehow get transported from their own world onto earth, and have to figure out how to deal with their new circumstances. as they sort of showed in the openings, satan gets a job at bootleg mcdonald's, while the other two find different occupations. all in all, it starts out as a mostly light-hearted series with more serious moments sprinkled in, but i'd say from season 2 onward, things gradually come together more and you get a more "visible" plot to follow. some people don't like that, i personally love it when "funny" shows decide to switch it up and get more serious, and in this case, i think they did just fine. obviously not gonna go into any more detail here though! the humor of this show is, in my opinion, amazing. compared to many other anime i've watched, where the comedy is often more "chaotic" or follows certain popular tropes that can be very hit-or-miss, the funny moments here feel a bit more..."grounded", probably because the characters' personalities are oftentimes more realistic, too. the one thing i do think sucks is that after season 1, the animation took a pretty big hit. as you can tell from the openings, the artstyle changes from season 2 onward, which i don't necessarily find bad, but the quality also has some...dips, and that's pretty damn unfortunate. not a game-breaker for me personally, but it's worth noting! so far, the anime has 3 seasons with a total of 36...? -ish episodes, i think you'd have a good time with this one!
