i def looked up the moves and (at the time) there was a skater in Canada copying the canadian skater from this show, lol so it was funny to see life imitating fiction. Btw, off topic, I think you would love Mashiro no Oto (These Pure White Notes) as much as this because it's so beautiful, and has such wonderful characters. It's about shamisen playing and the songs are so great and well-performed that it felt like a sports anime when I saw it lol

2024-06-01 12:27:19 +0000 UTCim not a skater myself but this show 100% got me into watching professional skating. the year it came out was the first year i watched the GP series and fell in love with the sport, and now i know so much about it its absolutely fascinating rewatching it here - i find it so so impressive how much detail is actually in the programs themselves that the animators have taken from real skaters, and thats something i absolutely didnt fully appreciate the first time since i hadnt seen real skating. if youre interested in IRL skaters, i highly recommend checking out people like yuzuru hanyu, satoko miyahara, and shoma uno - theyre some of my personal favourites

2024-06-01 12:01:58 +0000 UTCsubscribed here just a bit ago after seeing you were watching this anime, and i'm really loving your reactions! it's nice to see someone who not only takes their time to sit down and properly think about what's happening on-screen, but also doesn't mind diving into some more "niche" stuff. even though YOI was HUGE back in the day, you rarely have people talking about or reacting to it nowadays. even if you've never been interested in ice skating and don't know a thing about it, this series really knows how to get you hooked. most sports anime manage to do this of course, but i find it even more impressive here, because unlike many other sports, ice skating itself isn't considered nearly as "exciting" at first glance. it's a different kind of suspense than e.g. if you were watching a basketball match, and they manage to pull it off really well! i also find it impressive how despite only having 12 episodes (so far...still holding out hope), you get introduced to so many new characters in such a short period of time, but it doesn't feel nearly as overwhelming as it often can in other anime (at least in my opinion), because you can already get a good grasp of each of their personalities just by watching them skate and do their thing. anyway, tangent over! really looking forward to the next episode in particular, hope you're having a lovely day, gaz :)
