One thing I'm not sure the anime will mention later on, but in regards to the "schedule the jumps in the 2nd half": in ice skating competitions, performing jumps in the 2nd half will give you a 10% points bonus per jump (due to the fact that the skater is going to be more tired compared to the 1st half). That means that a skater with good stamina might choose to perform most of their jumps towards the end -so that they will earn more points- instead of choosing a program involving jumps throughout the whole performance.
