2023-11-02 18:31:57 +0000 UTCFor my part, even though my personal favourite character is Levi (with Annie and Reiner close behind), the character that I believe deserves the most recognition is Jean. His character development goes hand in hand with Eren's, as is shown by their rivalry since the very beginning: Eren starts off as the "hero" of the story, the main character that everyone is supposed to like and support, until eventually his moral collapse leads to him turning into a "villain" (or anti-hero, depending on how we view him as a character); whereas Jean was shown as being a selfish, almost petty, sidekick character with shallow ambitions, focused only on himself, who then begins his growth and turns into a "hero"-like type of character. He embraces all the ideals of the people around him and carries them on his shoulders, while always feeling unfit for that task. And even when faced with an easy way out, he knows that he wouldn't be able to live with himself if he were to turn his back on all his fallen comrades and friends, and rebels against the Jaegerists, the people that could have given him an end to the conflict.
