When I first saw a still of that scene, I lost my shit. Isayama is a genius for those details

Plus fun fact: There was a tiny hint in one of the last episodes. If you look very closely on where they were on top of the castle when it was about to fall, Bertholdt almost bit his hand, so he was about to let the truth slip right then and there. It's kind of a blink and miss type of hint.

You want to know why Nanaba yelled "Father, stop! I'll be good!"? Because in a very scary and painful moment, who does a child call out to first? Their parents. It's a psychological thing. If you're staring death like that in the face, you become very scared, and when we're scared, we kind of revert to being children at the mind. And from what we can assume, Nanaba's father might've been very abusive, and those fears and memories come up as well in situations like that.

Nanaba is about to be eaten, her life is about to end, her words are (possibly) meaningful to her, but nonsense to us. What she means by it, no idea. Does the titan resemble her father? Is her life flashing before her eyes and she's reacting to a memory? Is she panicking and spouting random words? Many interpretations possible. AOT really has these big shocking moments presented in the calmest of ways sometimes. If this were a big hollywood production, the lead up and revelation to who the Colossal and Armoured titans wre would be a HUGE deal. Here it's just mentioned so casually. There is a moment in the previous episode, just as the tower was about to fall, Bertholdt brings his hand up to his mouth, preparing to turn into a titan to ensure his own safety. The moment happens so swiftly it's easy to miss the first time someone watches the episode. Also, back in season 1, after 'escaping' Annie, Reinter picks up the injured Armin and carries him away, averting Armin's gaze from seeing the steam rising from his (Reiner's) wounds/head. The TBC screen is so triggering for all. You're not alone. (Is amusing to watch you though when it comes up).

Yep... that happened. And it still hurts after years. Reiner happens to be one of my favorites. (Kind of ironic since he wanted to marry my namesake, maybe I'm a little biased 😂)

Onwards!!
