I discovered your channel on YT recently and loved your Bridgerton reactions, so I had to see if you had a Patreon to support! So glad I did — this is one of my absolute favorite shows and it was wonderful to binge rewatch it alongside you, as I don’t have anyone in my real life to share it with. ❤️ Not sure if you’ve watched it again since this initial viewing, but if you can handle it I recommend watching it a second time at some point. The Rosenbergs were convicted and executed for treason for passing nuclear secrets to Russia during the Cold War. In the US during the McCarthy era, the government lumped gay people into their purge of communists in the government (imagined or otherwise) because it was thought they would be much easier to coerce into turning spy for Russia because they could be blackmailed. They weren’t outright executing people for being gay, but the climate made it so dangerous to be out at the time that they might as well have been. When you know exactly how everything goes down, you have a different perspective on Hawk’s motivations and there are cues throughout where you realize how much he’s struggling too. He feels self-loathing for being unable to accept himself, especially when constantly faced with the contrast of Skippy who has the courage to live so openly. He’s trapped between the gratitude he feels for Senator Smith for giving him a place to heal and grieve after the war, and the corner it backs him into which leads to him marrying Lucy. He’s terrified of love because of what happened with Kenny (his teenage love that was killed in the war). He has the cynicism that allows him to see threats to Tim’s safety that Tim is too naive to anticipate, and so he does shitty things to try to protect him. He’s a coward and an alcoholic asshole, but during his worst times you see it’s all tied to self-loathing — like during the scene in the 70s where he asks Skip to “just let me die”. He’s such a tragic and complex character, and it’s so sad that he never said the words “I love you” to Skippy while he was alive, but he says it with his eyes over and over throughout the years. The scene of them dancing in the last episode makes me SOB. I seriously think this is one of the greatest love stories ever set to film and Jonny and Matt are both so incredible in it. The kings of micro-expressions. 💞 Anyway, sorry for the novel! I haven’t been able to get this show out of my system since I first watched it, and especially recently with all the fucked-up-ness of the US right now that it feels like we’re returning to the McCarthy era. Just wanted to let you know you have a new fan and supporter, I love watching your reactions and looking forward to watching more! ❤️

This was a tough show to watch, but such a moving emotional work of art!

if it isn’t too hard on you, i’d love another reaction in this format. Especially for limited series, doing a binge is great.
