as a true Englishman, I'd be remiss to not post this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWpbtLIxYBk

My dad passed away in 2023 and I missed out one good heart to heart bonding that I've always wanted, so watching the last part of this movie is nearly impossible for me anymore. If you know, you know. Definitely agree that this movie is a good sit-back-and-enjoy type movie, a modern fairy tale. No blockbuster superhero sci fi horror crime thriller here. Just popcorn family movie.

Chris Mickelson

This movie is literally one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Not because it is made/acted/written poorer than every other movie I have seen, but because it is one of the most boring movies I have ever seen. It's not made worse than The Room, for example, but at least The Room is entertaining. I do not understand what people like about it

TivAcrid

Wow. One day I'd love to visit. God bless, my friend.

Michael Metrick

It's so surreal. There's message and catharsis in there, and what an odd way of coming around to it. Can't look away. It's absurd but you can't not watch it, and listen, and let it touch you.

I know exactly every time when I'll start blinking back tears, and that's when Karin falls and Archie becomes the doctor again. After that it's a sniffle fest for me for the rest of the movie. Every. Single. Time. Even while watching a reaction. My Dad is still around at 93, and I live with him. My mother passed 10 years ago. My family is actually from Iowa, and I was born there, a couple hours from Dyersville where the field still exists. I haven't been to the field but my mother and sister visited it, and somewhere in the house I have a tube of dirt from the field that they brought back for me. I really should look for it.

I cried like a baby when i first saw this. I had lost my dad a few years earlier and it still hits me hard. I think Alex wants more action. Maybe a space laser to knock the little girl off the stands... 🤣

Michael Metrick

Watching it right now. I have read the book, called "Shoeless Joe", that was adapted for this movie. There are several differences. Terence Mann is not in the book. Instead it's J.D. Salinger, author of "Catcher in the Rye". He refused to allow himself to be portrayed in the movie, and so Terence Mann was created instead. The father reveal was much earlier in the story but he didn't know Ray is his son. I'm sure there are other differences but those are the main ones. I have it but haven't read it in a long time.

It’s rare I get emotional watching a film, because I typically need a level of investment in the characters that is difficult to cultivate in 3 hours or less. I love Data, so seeing him go through the loss of his “child” whilst not having the emotion to love or grieve her resonated with me. This movie resonating with people (as it did for Alex) doesn’t surprise me at all though, I get it.

This film gave me my closing quote for my channel: “ peace, love, dope! Now get the hell out of here!” RIP JEJ

Column Meanie

I'm kind of surprised at the discussion. This movie, for most people, is complete emotional manipulation material, and it didn't seem to land here. Somehow Data's daughter did, and this didn't.

Ken R

Cool.

KatWithAttitude

We aren’t going by the picks but your name is on there so if you win you can pick that or anything else.

Josh (Target Audience)

My father always loved the story with the doctor. Of course, I had to age a few years before it occurred to me why possibly an older family man with three kids can appreciate the guy settling in and appreciating the life he chose.

Joe Concepts

I'll have to watch this a little later on this afternoon, but I hope you both cried! I know I will.

KatWithAttitude

Harvey was my movie lottery pick, but I'm not sure if they're still going by that.

KatWithAttitude

"Son, if I'd only gotten to be a doctor for five minutes - now that would have been a tragedy"

Jeffrey

Now you have to watch Harvey, even if on your own :)

Mushroom-Bagel-Bites

If you post it, they will come. :)

Funny Alex mentions he enjoys no letterbox "bars," not knowing he was watching this film that does indeed have them. A normal full screen high def monitor is naturally 1.77, and this movie is a very typical aspect ratio of 1.85 - meaning very very thin bars along the top and bottom. Hard to notice but they are there.

Skipper Martin

Oh this is awesome! Kinda need this reaction today. Thanks for the recommendation Jeffrey!

Column Meanie

I can’t wait!
