I don't have a particular "style" of preferred episodes, but I mean that there is an aspect about this episode which I typically dislike whenever it comes up in an episode. This is an episode with a decent dose of emotion and pathos. I do enjoy media with emotion and pathos when they flow naturally from events and story/plot that stands on its own. I really dislike when emotion and pathos are the foundation for a story or plot. For example, the film Apollo 13 has a lot of incredibly powerful emotion in it, and it's one of my favorite movies. The story or plot is something that I suppose we could say Data could appreciate even without any understanding of emotion, but some very powerful emotion does flow from those events and I get very into it. There have been a few emotional episodes like this in TNG so far, like The Offspring. I like some of these these episodes. There's another pretty emotional one coming up later on this season that I like. Episodes like The Bonding and Hero Worship are on the other end of what can admittedly be a subtle line where the emotion and pathos is almost the basis for the episode. In these we start with the emotional stuff and all the other emotional stuff that follows flows from that initial emotional part - and that's something I am not a big fan of.

This is one of my 5 - 10 least favorite episodes of the series and it's pretty low for me in the franchise as a whole. It is just not my style. I can see why some may like it a lot. I am most interested to see the patrons' vote on this one because I don't have a good sense of how the overall fandom sees it.
