UNCUT - The Expanse Season 1 Episodes 9-10

To each his own. I completely disagree with you. I really enjoy seasons 1 and 2 of TNG.

Matt F

I think this is a hilarious view point since season 1 & 2 of TNG are far inferior(and honestly mostly skippable) compared to the rest of the series. How I(or anyone for that matter) got through them into when TNG really hit its stride is a miracle imo

I finished the first season yesterday. It's pretty good although its a little muddled. My favorite is the guy in the ship, James? The detective stuff I found a little tedious at times because I'm kind of tired of the universal mandate seemingly given to all sci fi writers that every world looks and feels alike with the same bars , nihilistic characters, no morality, tattoos, attitude and cynicism, and so on that we've seen in almost every sci-fi since Bladerunner. Its good, but BSG is more fun. I hope I can continue with season 2 but now the streaming rights are a question.

Ken R

Well that's a wrap for S1, though really less of a finale and more of a "we'll wrap this up in S2" kind of ending. Glad the bridge crew decided to go ahead with S2. It's gonna be a wild ride. Since Amos has rightfully taken his place as favourite character(though Miller holds his own), I think it's worth it to examine what made him tick over the course of this season. On the one hand he can be clearly very unhinged at times, and seems to operate on a very, I guess you could say Darwinian kind of mindset. Rules and morality doesn't mean much to him. People live and die and none of it really means anything to him, he just does whatever he has to to survive. At the same time he's clearly incredibly loyal to Naomi and seems to look to her as the moral compass he knows he doesn't have. But it's interesting that certain kinds of people, kids and the male prostitute a few eps back, seem to trigger a sort of protective instinct out of character with usual morally ambivalent attitude. Regarding the radiation and how fast it kills, a comparable real world incident(2 actually) to look up were the experiments performed on a plutonium sphere back in the 40s that came to be knows as the demon core. Harry Daghlian and Louis Slotin both lost their lives from a split second exposure to the radiation the core put off after a mishap allowed the 2 halves to briefly come together. People back then were fuckin nuts. They were stacking bricks of I think beryllium to act as a radiation deflector around the plutonium core, which alone pushed the core close to super critical. Then once the shield was in place, they literally just reached around with a flat head screw driver and used them to experiment with how close they could get the 2 halves together without the core going super critical. Absolute insanity. Both died extremely painful deaths over the course of a few weeks. Radiation might not kill right away, but if you got a lethal dose, you'll end up wishing it did.

Or read up on Harry Daghlian and Louis Slotin and how they died from messing around with the demon core.

"From my least favorite to my favorite" - thank you for hopping on the bus so soon!

Darin Starr

I haven‘t watched season 6 on purpose, because if I do, my all time favorite show is at an end and I can‘t live with that!

Florian

Absolutely

Aramis Calcutt

We just have to wait 25 more years and then the actors will be the right age.

John

LOST could also have learned a lot from Babylon 5 who did the same thing, resolving arcs and answering questions, even if only to ask more questions after. I lost patience with LOST after the start of the 4th season when we just kept getting more and more questions and none were being answered.

John

More sync moments would have helped.

Sam Langanke

And 3 And 4 And 5 And 6 And my hopium for 7, 8 and 9

Jason Dokos

Plus having multiple nothing plot episodes back to back to back. I'm looking at you 3 episodes of NOT progressing anything after entering the hatch and giving character episodes for Desmond and co

Jason Dokos

Bridge Crew, to work ;)

Paul

Alex mentioned the actor who was in it so he's seen it, Josh must not have.

Paul

I think it's unfair to judge a serialized show like this on depth and intelligence unless you watch it all the way through. Understandable if it's just not your cup of tea.

Paul

Just tell me who I have to bl@w to get season 2.

LoTeq

I tried multiple times with this show and it just couldn't hold my interest. It has great visuals but lacks the depth and intelligence of a show like TNG (in my humble opinion).

Matt F

Just putting it out there, if they are unclear about radiation and how it kills you they have not watched Chernobyl. And if that is the case they should watch Chernobyl. It's only 5 episodes.

#MaxwellDidNothingWrong

I think their original intention may have been to actually buck the trend of "one season per book" that other shows (most notably Game of Thrones that they were being consistently compared to) had set. This decision became unsustainable after being cancelled and when renewed, they didn't want to face another situation where they were rushed. (Book 3 was one that could be rushed, but Book 6 absolutely couldn't. They needed a full season to devote to it.

John

I am having a blast watching this show. Please continue to Season2

WabbitTrax

My assumption as to the spillover is SyFy ordered 10 and they had hoped for 13 and then found a good 'finale' point and adapted from there. Obvious spillover reasons for Book 2 and then the compression of Book 3 allowed the following to be 10/10/6 (supposedly covid restrictions were expensive to film under)

Jason Dokos

Yeah, they had to rush to finish book 3 at the end of Season 3, because that was going to be the end of the series, since they couldn't be sure Amazon Prime would pick it up for three more seasons. Although the 9 books are all connected, it's kinda like a trilogy of trilogies. 1-3 tell one story, 4-6 tell another, and 7-9 tell a third.

John

Great Reaction! You guys picked up on a lot of the details and made the right conclusions. Also your theories are good/interesting, won't confirm anything ofc. Some details: Belters and Martians are weaker than Earthers in general. Gravity is a huge factor here. Belters have none to 1/3 Earths gravity and Mars is 1/3 Earths gravity. Earthers also handle radiation better than the rest, that's why Miller felt way worse faster. I'm glad you weren't bashing on Holden for firing the whole mag. They took a lot of drugs to keep them going and were under extrem stress. As some other commenters mentioned, Book 1 ends with S2E4 and E5. Strap in for the next season, now it's full steam ahead and I'm hyped to see the you guys react to the next season, if we win the vote :D

Florian

It wasn't Impossible to sync. It just took a little more work to do so.

Daxeah

This was impossible to sync with Prime so I gave up at the end of the first half.

Aramis Calcutt

I think LOST could have learned a thing or two from this show about how to handle mysteries. addressing 1 or 2 at a time in season long arcs instead of throwing them all at you at once and making you wait 5 seasons to address them.

penoyer79

No we still a lil less than 2/1 luckily, I meant that the format is not S2 against this, this and that other show, it‘s S2 against anything else :)

Florian

How many Bridge Crew Members are there?

thebeefmaster

I did my civic duty and yay for season 2.

Monty Crawford

I really hope you continue watching, season 1 & 2 kind of merge together as the same story. Season 1 ending has no real conclusion. Plus season 2 introduces two of the most badass characters in any show ever…

Worf and Riker Ride Again

Yup, don't want to repeat myself but I L.O.V.E. this %#&@!

Jason Lallathin

I hope we continue. Season 1 makes no sense whitout season 2.

Michel Provost

they're voting it down?

penoyer79

Vote is pretty brutal it's S2 or anything else, but I did my part :D

Florian

Ok, I have to say, Avasarala's outfits are consistently gorgeous.

Julie Carter

imagine bridge crew votes down season 2 in favor of making them watch Buffy

penoyer79

My vote is cast... Season Two please!!

Jason Lallathin

Great reactions to the first season, really enjoyed it! I hope the Bridge Crew votes to continue! And yes, there are many details and foreshadowing that can be picked up by rewatching. I've seen this series many times, and still catch details on the rewatch.

Jamie Cordell

Yup. S1 is only the first two acts of book 1.

Ron

A fun watch. I enjoyed seeing how you figured out the broad strokes of the mystery as you went, and how you figured the characters out progressively. Some of your predictions are good (not saying if they're accurate), but I'll just say people who react tend to be pleasantly surprised with how the show develops later. Seems you had a good time with S1 (which is ranked towards the bottom with the fandom), so I'm confident you'll enjoy the rest of the show much more, regardless if you end up reacting to it on camera or not.

Aldo Cassola

I dunno the actual reason why, but I have my theories. But... Book 1 ends S2E5 Book 2 ends S3E6 After that, each book end coincides with a season end

Jason Dokos

Bridge Crew better vote wisely! Lol While season 1 is complete. Book 1 has 5 more episodes.

Jason Dokos

This season's "finale" is only like three quarters of the way into the first book (out of 9) that this show is based on. It gets wrapped up well into the next season.
