2024-12-29 21:49:40 +0000 UTCJust an FYI, the last 2 seasons of SG-1 are, technically, a different show. They had planned on ending SG-1 after season 8 and had another show, Stargate Command, planned and almost started. That was canned and became seasons 9 & 10, that’s why they have a different flavor to them and a new series of plot lines and baddies. I adore the show but really don’t care for the last 2 seasons. Personally, even season 8 was pushing it, RDA really wanted to exit to spend time with family, and it shows.

2024-12-29 17:44:09 +0000 UTCI love the Stargate movie and I started watching SG-1. I enjoyed the show for the most part but did not finish it because it started becoming repetitive as far as story. I got thru many seasons but it just fizzled out later on for me at least. I have heard that Stargate Atlantis is amazing, but I never got around to watching it yet. I'm still hoping you guys will get back to BSG, you can't just let Adama hang like that my dudes. :) Plus, my fav character Baltar still has to go thru his character arc and it's an amazing thing to watch him go thru it, you gotta see it. :)

Good writing and characterization is everything to these guys. :) However, really glad they GOT what the show was about and they liked those aspects.

I know, it's what they picked, but for my money the smart choice to start you guys off would have been to watch the pilot. If more SG-1 enters into the voting pool, this is just going to get messy. Okay, i'm done ranting at my fellow patrons... SG-1 is a fine show. My personal opinion is it overstayed its welcome and went on for too long. The entire franchose, really, in my view. Much like Supernatural, it probably would have had a stronger legacy had it ended sooner. On the topic of episode 9 specifically, it's a nice story, and as Alex points out it does have some ties back to the movie, which the show has an interesting relationship with the movie. It's almost like going from one Marvel universe to another where things are close, but not quite the same. Or, if you think about it like different eras of Batman or Superman, where the narratives are close, but different. This divergence got big enough that a few years back Roland Emerich was talking about doing another Stargate movie that ignored SG-1/Atlantis etc and went off in its own direction, bringing back Kurt Russell and James Spader... But that never got off the ground. Yeah, Stargate isn't my favorite, but I understand why a lot of people really love it.

2024-12-29 13:11:09 +0000 UTCWhen SG-1 is on, it's really on. And when it's off, it's SO. BAD. But in the first seven seasons, more good than bad, especially after the first half of the first season. In the 8th season, kinda a mix, leaning bad. 9th and 10th have very little to recommend them. And there's a very specific reason for that. But I won't spoil it. If you continue to watch this, I may join for some of my favorite episodes. This is a much more action-oriented show than the other good shows you've disliked, with far more "action adventure" episodes, and fewer "science fiction" episodes. Which is fine, since you tend not to like science fiction episodes.
