This episode is long after I decided to not bother watching in order to have my girlfriend be happy.
I am glad to see this confirmation that I had made the right decision all those years ago.

It's a great episode if you've watched everything that led up to it. But it's a terrible choice to just randomly jump in. But that wasn't your choice. You literally gave the fans what they wanted.

I really liked it back in the day, but it has aged badly. Cheesy humor and action schlock.

so i love this show, and I think you have to understand the arc of it. This was a show aimed at young people, and the first season was noted as an interesting midseason replacement that had potential. Then season 2 blew everyone away, but its definitey one where you "grew up" with the characters and have to be able to vibe with the hip "high school" drama vibe.

I loved Buffy. It is not as great in a rewatch. Somethings seem predictable and like so many other shows because Whedon was copied so much. I can forgive some of the over-the-top characters. I do it in Star Trek also. The android that shows emotions but everyone in the episode acts like he does not. Q who the characters say he is omnipotent but clearly never is. The bad humor. Buffy has all these also. The sci fi mumbo jumbo in ST is similar to the myth/ cultic mumbo jumbo in Buffy. You cannot take either too seriously. The characters that really have not aged well. It is all there in both. I like both but I can see why some especially those not watching a lot of TV at that time would not like it. But then again I am the one who is so tired of the same predictable grey anti heroes that we have today. I like watching LOTR and the original Star Wars movies because there was real good. Tired at how everyone is just grey and it is not their fault that they are so evil. ughh.

I do not see that. The movie was bad. The series is a lot better. It is a series of its time although the quirky dialogue and humor has influenced a lot of TV and movies today.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffy_studies The cinematography, direction, and some of the storytelling elements are also now staples in nearly every film course in the western world. I’m not being hyperbolic; this is a real thing. While I’m glad you gave it a chance, I do wonder how you watched “The Body” (in full context) without recognizing what others saw in it. But we’re all different, and we all have different tastes. If you went into this expecting to see a teeny bopper show, I can see why you might have carried that throughout, as well. Your opinion is in no way invalid. Though I’m not sure it’s fair to compare it to Charmed, which is an Aaron Spelling show (think 90210 and other “teeny bopper” dramas). With this episode, Joss had to literally threaten to quit to get it made, because no show had ever done an episode with virtually no dialogue. Seriously, I’m not carrying water for the show, though I am a fan. I think people can objectively see that (at least some particular episodes) had a lasting effect on television, and it was a good thing. There’s a reason why Whedon is the most celebrated writer and director in modern film, despite his (well deserved) downfall. He knew how to describe the human condition. He didn’t seem to know how to live it, and be a decent human being, however.

I loved the first 3 seasons and liked the rest. But as time has worn on it is definitely overrated and the dialogue is like listening to nails on a chalkboard.

Well. I did watch pretty much the whole series. Tapered off toward the very end. I have never seen statistically where anyone other than SMG fans and teeny boppers actually went bananas over the series. Very repetitive and became just more and more laden with teen drama. She was a teen ager emotionally for the whole show, as were the rest. It was like that other show with the three witches everyone was watching at the time. It was a theme trend. Just not for me, I guess.

I always liked the movie more I couldn't get past the third season of the TV show but even getting that far was work. I probably wouldn't have seen that far if I wasn't in a relationship with somebody who loved the show

…Seriously? I mean, you’re entitled to your opinion, but scholars and directors/actors literally praise the tv show, while the movie is almost universally disliked. Like I said, to each their own. But you don’t sound like someone who’s ever actually watched the full series.

I thought the movie was much, much better, the acting and actors better, and it was not so teen-angsty WB. Thoroughly enjoyed the movie. There was too much WB imprint on the series to get anything good. Ain't Nobody Go Time For That.

I think this show is an acquired taste … took me years to finally watch … rather pay attention to iit and get hooked .At the time I regarded this as my sisters show … I had DS9 and she had this … I was like 20 .. she was 8 . Is it campy … yes … but a fun show to watch ( including the spin-off)
