I’m extremely skeptical because James Gunn with pretty much unlimited freedom could lead to Peacemaker esque “comedic” monologues. Which is fine in that show, but I don’t want to hear Superman talk about having a super penis or something dumb. But I also know James Gunn respects the character and source material and has often brought me to tears and goosebumps with his past work. Just listening to that rendition of John Williams’ iconic score brought water to my eyes. Overall I’m skeptical, but still optimistic. I’m just excited we get to see Superman be a friend instead of a god (hopefully). 10 bucks says Nathan Fillion gets taken out in the opening scene. I know that haircut is comic accurate but Jesus. Also bonus is some wrasslin pictures. Double bonus if you can guess what TOS episode is in my glasses’ reflection. People from the discord already know so you’re disqualified!

2024-12-25 11:52:47 +0000 UTCI... never really cared about the DCEU. At best I thought they were "fine." Largely I found them underwhelming from the start of MoS. So I have no dog in the fight if the "Snyderverse" though I will admit that, self-indulgent moments aside, the Snyder cut WAS the better cut. All that said, I'm pretty excited for this Superman. People say it looks cheap and made for TV, but I'm wondering how much of that is the majority of cinema pushing dreary, muted colour palettes, dark lighting and "grit" as "cinematic" and "prestige." I can't help think of "The Wizard of Oz" as the counter to that. But movies haven't been that for a long time, and TV IS the medium where color has been allowed to flourish more. As for all the other heroes in the film, I think they will exist as more greyer characters on the morality and prinicpled spectrum, to highlight Superman as the unobtainable ideal example to strive for, but never achieve. Think of the contrast between the boy scout Superman and some of the heroes shown? I think a lot of this movie is going to be about the struggle of a principled, moral man in an increasingly cynical world, and his attempts to change that world. Superman is usually unstoppable, so I think that's where much of the personal drama will come from.

He's the epitome of jerk with a heart of gold; he's the bully character who would never actually hurt anyone unless they deserved it...or if they REALLY annoyed him. He literally made peace with Arkillo (the big muscly beast guy in the Sinestro Corps) by beating him up without using his ring!

It's not really my thing, but I know a lot of people enjoy that and that it's often connected with superheroics in the story arcs of faces and heels and the like (hopefully I'm using those terms correctly) but yeah, I like it!
