NOVEMBER MOVIE REACTION LOTTERY

I did Echo Moon. 😁🖖

Just saw this... According to wikipedia, adjusted for ticket-price inflation, 1959's Ben Hur is the 14th-highest-grossing film ever in the United States and Canada just behind #13 The Empire Strikes Back. The only older films on the list include #1 Gone with the Wind, #6 The Ten Commandments, and #10 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_films_in_the_United_States_and_Canada

Well, it does have that one scene.

Today this would’ve been 90% CGI. Just the fact this was made with practical staging, extras, and mat paintings is very impressive. I’m going to purchase a Blu-ray copy just so that I can watch it with you guys.

Classic Ben Hur ..... Excellent!!! 🙂

You're right about the silent film. I forgot about that. But, other than the 2016 remake, I'm not familiar with the others.

startrekiborg

Maybe... maybe not.

Mike Rogers

This movie would usually be shown on network TV at Easter time, so that's how I saw it. But one of these days I hope to see it in a theater.

Mike Rogers

I think I'll have to watch it in sections to make the viewing time more manageable. I'm looking forward to it though!

T’Pynyn of Vulcan

For me this is right up there with Hunt for Red October in that I just don’t get why people love it so much. It’s long and doesn’t keep my attention, but I also don’t generally like movies like Gladiator or Braveheart. Hopefully you enjoy it more than I did.

Brian Moore

You guys are doing Ben Hur?! Great, great movie but you'll file for Social Security after it's done. It makes me wonder if somebody has Cleopatra on your list (4+ hours)

Mike Rogers

There are seven or eight versions, including a 1925 silent film. So this is a remake, I suppose.

Oh my that is one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time, didn't even realize someone had it on the list. I'm a huge Heston fan (as an actor not politics) he's one of the GOATs I think this will be the first time I will watch along that isn't Star Trek for once. Of course being in my top 10, I won't even have to go hunting I already have this on my movie drive. This is an awesome movies fellas.

Sequiro

Just a heads-up, don't forget that there is a 6.5 min. overture at the beginning and a 5 min. intermission which starts at 2:21:31.

Ron

I have to admit, I have never completely watched Ben Hur. I have watched parts of it (and the director William Wyler is a personal favorite), but I have never seen the whole thing. Looks like I am going to have to break down and finally watch it in good company.

Collin Freeman

Jesus. He's in it.

Michael Figueroa

THREE AND A HALF HOURS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Michael Nemo

Ben Hur? I barely know Hur.

Timothy Nikiforovs

Awesome win!!! I’m looking forward to it! The remake sucks, imo. There’s only one remake that I know of.

I worked late and also had to go to see the orthopedic surgeon again for more X-rays to check the healing on my shoulder so I missed the drawing. The good news is I don't have to go back to see him again unless I think I have to. The bad news is I still have to go to physical therapy through the end of the year. I do love Ben-Hur. I just hope you don't go in prejudiced against it because of the length. It has some of the most famous movie sequences of all time in it. I do own it, so I can watch it with you whenever I have the time.

KatWithAttitude

Just think of it as three 78-minute movies.

Can't wait!

Wow! I saw another channel react to Ben Hur recently. I figured that they would really, really hate it, but they actually really loved it. I have actually never seen the movie either, although I did see a later version and remember liking or loving it, but that version HAD TO BE completely different. It's an long epic movie, so you probably just need to be awake and in the right mindset to watch it. The story was written in 1880 by a Civil War general Lew Wallace who later became governor of the New Mexico Territory and Minister to the Ottoman Empire. It's been called "the most influential Christian book of the 19th century" and the best-selling novel of the century. The book was apparently a response to Robert Ingersoll, nicknamed the Great Agnostic, who fought under Wallace at Shiloh as Wallace had never before thought much about religion until seeing Ingersoll on a train while traveling to a Civil War veterans reunion.

Not mad about the winning film, it's a classic for a reason. Congrats to whoever suggested it. :)

Sneakers gonna sneak in!
