Comments

I see Midnight as engaging as any first episode. I disagree with but understand your reasoning.

Blane Mather

Kolchak: The Night Stalker - Episode 1.4 The Vampire

Patrick Henry

X files Season 3 Episode 4 Clyde Bruckmans Final Repose

Sherman Lin

The Orville S1E5 - Pria

Matt Newmark

The Walking Dead S5E1

Shawn Indigo

Love, Death + Robots S1E14 Zima Blue

Shibster

Batman "A Piece Of The Action"

Owen Madden

The pilot is not a standard single episode length.

Kenneth Elder

Children of the gods pilot would be best

Phil Ken Sebben

The Storyteller, episode 7: The Soldier and Death. If you've seen it, you won't forget it. Amazing work by the Henson team.

Jason Shearer

I submitted The X-Files S7 E21 - Je Souhaite - A standalone episode. Je Souhaite is French for "I Wish".

thebeefmaster

I think they said that they have seen a few random episodes.

thebeefmaster

The Expanse - S02 E02 - Doors and Corners Ship battle scene, political tension, hints at what's happened and what's to come but doesn't spoil the show's paradigm shift, Miller's cold-ass final scene.

LoTeq

WKRP in Cincinnati (Season 1, Episode 7) "Turkeys Away"

HuskerChuck

Red Dwarf Season 5 Episode 6 Back to Reality.

Keith S

Thanks Blane I was going from memory and hadn’t checked the final vote. I love Midnight also, but IMHO it does suffer from some of the clumsiness that permeates season 1. I do think Gethsamane shows the show more in its stride, without spoiling anything major despite being in season 3 (because B5 is so tight, that’s a hard find!).

Paul Hess

I don't think so. They haven't said yet if they have.

Katie Jackson

Have they seen it? Man, that'd be the perfect non ST show for them.

THE LORE!!!

Yes... perhaps I tried to pack too much info into that post... lol.

Stevtrek

Season one episode one the pilot episode of “nowhere man“ 1995 Bruce Greenwood directed by Tobey Hooper

Thicketdweller

Just to be clear, is this The Flash (1990) EP S1.11 ?

Matthew McKinnon-Gray

The X-Files S7 E21 - Je Souhaite - A standalone episode. Je Souhaite is French for "I Wish".

thebeefmaster

Yeah the "seasons" and "episodes" of columbo can be screwy, that's why I included the title

Evan Guthrie

The Outer Limits Season 1 episode 14 Quality of Mercy. Bonus you get a Star Trek actress you haven't met yet Nicole De Boer

Bradley Shafer

Columbo's episode numbering can be different depending on where you look. iMDB classes some episodes as separate TV movies, rather than episodes of a series.

Regan

It was a close 3rd in the last poll. My suggestion of Babylon 5 -s1e1 "Midnight on the Firing Line" took 2nd place by 2 votes. I've added it here as well because I think that's a better intro to the series. These gentlemen watched "The Gathering" and decided it wasn't for them. They might have had the same experience with Trek if they had watched "The Cage" first. I'm trying to rectify that problem.

Blane Mather

HBO's "Rome", S1E1, introduces all the characters, but the following episodes are much more interesting.

PFCoffey

Babylon 5 - s1e1 Midnight on the Firing Line.

Blane Mather

The X-Files "Bad Blood" S5 E12

KevinH

Westworld S01E01

Kevin B

Black Mirror-"USS Callister" Season 4, Episode 1 ..cuz..why not

Badger

Mary Tyler Moore Show 6x7 “Chuckles Bites the Dust” considered one of the funniest tv episodes of the 20th Century.

Jonathan

Seaquest DSV, pilot episode “To be or not to be”. Superficially TNG underwater. Great cast (Recommend season 1 only if you decide you like it ! lol)

tyranusfan

👍

Katie Jackson

We’ve both seen Stranger Things

Josh (Target Audience)

That title looks to be episode 1 not 3

Josh (Target Audience)

I was going to suggest “Fade in to Murder,” but any Columbo is good.

James H

Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law - “The Dabba Don”

Phil Ken Sebben

Sherlock, Study in Pink (season 1, ep 1) with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. Created by Steven Moffat.

T’Pynyn of Vulcan

EP S1.11 The Trickster with guest stars Mark Hamill (Star Wars), Joyce Hyser (Just One Of The Guys) & Gloria Reuben (ER, Timecop) of The Flash (1990), starring John Wesley Shipp (The Flash 2014... as the same character) as Barry Allen/the Flash, Amanda Pays (Max Headroom) & Alex Désert (Simpsons, Becker). Hamill is an insane magician who wreaks havoc throughout Central City as the maniacally clever Trickster. One of my favorite, mostly unseen series. Mark Hamill reprised the role of James Jesse/The Trickster 24 years later in the 2014 Flash episode "Tricksters".

Stevtrek

The Greatest American Hero S1E1 “The Greatest American Hero” (pilot - 1981)

HG

Fringe Season 1 Episode 4 The Arrival. It's early enough to make sense after the pilot and not spoil much of anything out of context, effectively shows off the three main characters with emphasis on the relationship between Peter and Walter, and acts as an introduction to some of the more fascinating parts of the mythology.

Miki Ah Heong

Good episode, but I'm partial to "The Most Crucial Game" or "Playback".

Michael Figueroa

Hill Street Blues episode 1 “Hill Street Station”

Collin Freeman

Castle S 5 Ep 6 "Final Frontier" please voters before you dismiss this because you have never watched Castle, just do a search of this ep and read the description and you will see why I put this up for selection.

Prof Moff

"Nightcrawlers" from The Twilight Zone (1985)

Michael Figueroa

Here is a non-scifi show. M*A*S*H season 11 episode 16 Goodbye, Farewell and Amen. It's the last episode of the entire show but it's IMO the best one and you really don't have to watch any of the show to love it. :) It's longer than a regular episode because it's the last one but it's totally worth it. I hope folks agree. :)

Echo Moon

Ya'll know I'm gonna say it LOL. BSG season 3 episode 16 Dirty Hands. It's a great one. :)

Echo Moon

Good pick.

xadg

That episode has MY vote too.

Tom Occhipinti

Episode 1 of HBO's Spawn series

James Bottas

Farscape Season 2 Episode 9: Out Of Their Minds

Katie Jackson

Out Limits original series Wolf 359. Season 2 episode 8?

Keith S

Farscape “Crackers Don’t Matter” season 2 Episode 4

TalynStarburst

Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 1 Episode 1: Pilot (1hr.)

Katie Jackson

Stranger Things Season 1 Episode 1: Chapter 1 (49 min.)

Katie Jackson

I don’t want to split The West Wing vote so I’ll just mention another great one, maybe for a future poll. S1E10, “In Exelsis Deo”.

Paul Hess

Babylon 5 Passing Thru Gethsemane. It can be watched as a somewhat standalone episode (as much as any B5 episode can be considered standalone) and it does a great job of showing B5's balanced and powerfully dramatic portrayal of societal issues, religion, etc. This was a close second last poll. Please “like” and let’s get it over the top this time!

Paul Hess

Grimm Season 1 Episode 1: Pilot (43 min)

Katie Jackson

Dr scrubs

Evan Guthrie

It's not one vote per person so go ahead

Evan Guthrie

The X-Files Season 1 Episode 1: Pilot (48 min.)

Katie Jackson

I was going to suggest a different Columbo, but I don’t want to split the vote.

James H

Columbo season 1 episode 3: Murder by the Book

Evan Guthrie

The Wire S1E1

Dor

Stargate SG-1 S01E11 "Torment of Tantalus". It's a high quality taste of SG1, early on so easy to follow, dramatic, deals with the unique quirks of the setting. I love this episode, for standing on its own merits and leaving you wanting more. It's not my personal favorite but those ones are better for those more entrenched in the series.

Kenneth Elder

The West Wing S02E22 "Two Cathedrals"

Regan

The Expanse, season 3 episode 6.

Derek Lawrence

Scrubs S1 E1 because why not more Dr. Stubbs?

Nolan

Star Wars Rebels S1 E1

Chuck Rice

Gargoyles season 1 episode 8 “Deadly Force”

Matthew McKinnon-Gray
