Comments

This is the episode where they have officially watched more TNG than TOS, going by watch time and not episode count. There are still like 30 episodes before they will have overtaken the entire Kirk era though, counting movies and TAS

One of my favorites, but patiently waiting for S4 E19…😎

There is a whole supercut on YouTube of Worf being “Noted”

This is an A for me just because it actually showed some social norms which we really don;t get enough of. Like Leah was 100% justified but after Geordie actually explained it and she saw the context, she gave him a bit of grace. If only the real world were so forgiving. On top of that I agree the B-plot was woven in perfectly. The last eps of this season are all pretty damned good. I am stoked for every upload. Ngl though, Geordie has some severe attachment issues and Troi is slacking on his therapy.

Still an E for me. I don't mind characters being wrong and having flaws (the Enterprise crew should have few more) but I expect the episode to call main characters out when they are wrong and not ending the episode with Brahms apologizing to Geordi when she had every right to feel violated because we've all seen Booby Trap, it wasn't strictly professional on Geordie's part. The episode lost me when I got the feeling the writers wanted me to agree with Geordi, there's no coming back from that. The space baby plot was okay but not interesting enough to safe the episode. I did like Levar Burton and Susan Gibney's performances though, they were both good but there was always the "Geordi is right!" sign flashing over their scenes.

I should add that I don't think that Geordi is off the hook just because he didn't ask the computer to create "Sex Doll Leah." He still was creepy and irresponsible and invasive.

Think again!

BEST OPENER EVER!!! I predicted you guys would go B/B, so... This is one of the most relentlessly cringe episodes ever, but in a good way. If you're gonna cringe, at least have a cringe redemption arc. I forgot the "Enterprise gets attacked by giant dumpling" subplot and I agree that the B plot does what a B plot is supposed to do: SERVE AND REINFORCE THE A PLOT, not act as a distraction or diversion from "the real story." 17:00 = yeah, on the one hand, his sh!t is weak, but on the other hand... he didn't program the holodeck to HAVE HER SAY THAT SPECIFICALLY or be sexy, appealing to him etc etc; he just asked the computer to imbue the hologram with aspects of her personality. I'm not excusing him, but he should have said THAT. She would have understood. All he would have had to say was "Computer, what were the parameters for the hologram of Dr. Brahms?" and he was covered... ...but it points to what you cover in the discussion: I don't think that the IRL Geordi-Leah interaction was handled (written) well AT ALL. Speaking as a writer, their IRL scenes scan almost like a rough first draft, where you get this great idea for a story or scene, write it through, and then after you let it sit and you think about it, you realize, "OK... would they have said this and done that?" and revise it. Thanks as always!
