Good Halloween season episode in my humble opinion. Mood music is different from other episodes.

2024-10-23 23:40:04 +0000 UTCProbably would have worked much better as an original series episode.
Nick Sauer
2024-10-17 23:53:28 +0000 UTCYes - the morgue scene is one that could spook anybody to think there's something under the couch - and end up making them pick their feet up off the floor when seeing it................
Rhett Coates
2024-10-17 17:59:17 +0000 UTCI thought about that the first time I watched it during its premier: explains a LOT of what we see happening to humanity (having so much expected of us each day AND night) if you buy the idea we get into terrible scenarios in our daily real-lives if we don't have enough real rest at night (the way we're built). It's built upon time-tested theories of how REM sleep allows our minds to reset and be fully alert for the next day's events. Yeah, quite an interesting science, the foundation of this story!
Rhett Coates
2024-10-17 17:56:36 +0000 UTCYes same here. Unfortunately most of Deanna episodes are weak in my opinion, with the exception of one episode in one of the following seasons.

2024-10-17 09:19:03 +0000 UTCDo they HAVE hydrogen, or WANT hydrogen? "surely it's what they want" Hold on there buddy, you seek out new life and new civilizations with diverse cultures and perspectives but, clearly, it's probably definitely the one and not the other. Ah screw it, they were all sleep deprived.
#MaxwellDidNothingWrong
2024-10-17 03:06:43 +0000 UTCD for the exact same reason. "WHERE ARE YOU" kills it.
#MaxwellDidNothingWrong
2024-10-17 03:03:12 +0000 UTCI get "The Loss" confused with this (much better) episode because of their similar premises. While not a truly great, S tier, episode I think it works well overall. I give it an A based on Deana being useful as a empath in a show were whe is the focus and on the realistic depiction of the difficulty of communication with an alien intelligence. Something Star Trek often ignores.

2024-10-16 20:43:13 +0000 UTCi will rate each moment. bear in mind i havent seen the episode in years picard doorbell: I think I know the scene but cannot be sure. thats a 2/10 picard turbolift: can just about remember thats a 5/10 guinan gun: yes i think i know that one. funny because the gun looked very plastic with no weight to it. 6/10 Crusher with bodies: thats the memorable one 9/10 worf wanting sue of side? cant remember that one at all betazoid guy who has little acting to do : thats a 3/10 and the troi repeating scene where she's floating around: 8/10 because very memorable in boring repetitive way

2024-10-16 05:33:07 +0000 UTC@BN13 I think the nightmare aspect of Troi's dreams is that she can't get away from it. It happens every time, over and over and over. Like the music never ending. I think Troi's dreams were handled just right.
Jovet
2024-10-16 03:33:49 +0000 UTCPicard hallucinating the doorbell. Picard hallucinating getting crushed in the turbolift. Guinan whipping out her gun from under the bar. Crusher imagining moving cadavers. Worf deciding to end it all, and Troi sensing that and chasing him down. The weird Betazoid guy from the other ship who is catatonic. There are many memorable and notable scenes in this one! I really enjoy it.

2024-10-16 03:30:14 +0000 UTCI, for one, would love to see Setting #2.

2024-10-16 03:25:36 +0000 UTCThis episode starts out strong but by the end I was just waiting for it to be over. Then I get my wish and it just abruptly ends.

2024-10-16 02:32:45 +0000 UTCI mean, it’s maybe kinda bad but I love it. The mood is fun (despite the goofy Troi on a wire bits) and the actors are so good with each other at this point it elevates even the so-so episodes. Another fun Ron Jones score. Hotshot pilot Ensign Sariel Rager forgets how to fly the ship.

2024-10-16 00:53:09 +0000 UTCAlso Troi's quote about admitting fear gives strength is something I use every time I deal with something stressful.

2024-10-15 18:56:08 +0000 UTCWho is Diana?
Phil Ken Sebben
2024-10-15 17:14:44 +0000 UTCPlot? A! Music? A! Use of Diana ? A! Direction ? A! So of course it’s a D.
Sixto
2024-10-15 12:10:01 +0000 UTCYeah, this one is a D for me. The morgue scene is fantastically creepy, and I do like Picard talking to Data about his fear of losing his mental faculties like his grandfather, but watching Marina Sirtis get a wedgie from all the wire work while shouting "WHERE ARRRREEE YOUUUU" into the void just doesn't do it for me. There are episodes that incorporate horror far better than this.
Timothy Nikiforovs
2024-10-15 08:02:16 +0000 UTCTrying to decide between B and C. Leaning C. There are some great moments in here, but the "Troi floating listening to unnecessarily cryptic aliens" part really drags it down. Like, the third time she's voting through the void, it's hard not to laugh.
Ian Westcott
2024-10-15 05:21:12 +0000 UTCSome interesting science in this episode to solve their dilemma.
Ron Hubbard Jr
2024-10-15 04:52:52 +0000 UTCB for “Boo!” when the bodies sit up around Crusher. Also B for Bad Troi effect with the floating. But it’s still an interesting episode to watch from time to time.
Brian Moore
2024-10-15 03:21:22 +0000 UTCA. It's just as creepy as the episode "Where Silence Has Lease".
Michael Figueroa
2024-10-15 02:18:03 +0000 UTCI really really like this episode. I've heard it said before that generally people consider this a "meh" installment--both among fans and producers. However, I think it's some good straight-forward spoops that's both entertaining and revealing from a character standpoint. It sets itself apart long before later Trek iterations over-use the "hallucinogenic" trope, too. Also, the morgue scene with Crusher is one of the creepiest bits ever put to television, especially with how realistically calm and mentally-centered Gates McFadden performs in the scene. I've always casually liked the role of Gates in Trek, but watching y'all react to her has made me appreciate her on an even higher level, and I would like to thank you for that~

2024-10-15 01:47:25 +0000 UTCI predict that you’ll give this an A just for the Guinan gun scene.
tyranusfan
2024-10-15 01:41:09 +0000 UTCThis is a C. It has 1 memorable scene and thats about it. Theres also the same scene with Troi repeated over and over again. yawn
Narnman
2024-10-15 01:30:56 +0000 UTCIt's a nightmare episode, but in a literal and positive way, for me at least; and more effective I think, even on repeated viewings, when watched close to Halloween.
DG
2024-10-15 00:03:53 +0000 UTCCringe-inducing... sorry. Anything possibly "good" is forgotten as you only remember the bad of it... and in the end, hmf... That's it?

2024-10-14 23:52:41 +0000 UTCHorror story time..! Troi flying through green space makes me cringe and howl with laughter in equal measure. Feel the balance between character and plot is a little *too* skewed away from plot, as it feels pretty thin in places.
The Ninth Doctor
2024-10-14 20:48:21 +0000 UTCMaybe against the grain with this take but this is one of my very very few “skip” episodes of trek, not sure what it is specifically just doesn’t grab me at all
LonghillAndy
2024-10-14 20:46:30 +0000 UTCC+ for me (7.0/10). Some of the creepy scenes are pretty cool, esp the morgue one, but overall just not enough happens in this one to score it any higher.
Steven Cressler
2024-10-14 20:23:06 +0000 UTCOne of Trek's very best horror episodes! Crusher and the bodies was expertly filmed. I went with a B, but only because of Troi's endless floaty chessy dreams. If that had been done better, would have been an A.
Lovok
2024-10-14 20:17:56 +0000 UTCjust finished rating the rest of the season - love it all - most of my grades were A with one very notable S - this was the only B, not a bad episode, just not the best - almost makes me want to take a nap - and Riker has the best portrayal of lack of REM sleep on his face!
jan
2024-10-14 20:15:24 +0000 UTCI'm thinking C but maybe B....
Greg Quinn
2024-10-14 18:22:49 +0000 UTCmissed this one on first release, and once I did catch it, I never got freaked out by the morgue scene as much as other people did, as I'd already been traumatised by a later episode
Ee'char
2024-10-14 17:59:35 +0000 UTCB-tier for me, primarily because of how quickly the ending happens. It felt a bit rushed towards the end and not satisfying as it could have. However, I subscribe to the "B for Banger" style of rating, so I still quite enjoy this one.
Paul
2024-10-14 17:54:08 +0000 UTCI think it was the right move to have her in space, but I agree they should have made it scarier. Maybe being sucked toward the alien ship(without revealing it as a ship, just a "presence") would have worked well there.
Pokeysaurus
2024-10-14 17:36:48 +0000 UTCLike the mark of Gideon is a D
Josef Nitervol
2024-10-14 17:21:58 +0000 UTCYeah it would be nice if her nightmares felt like actual nightmares. Nothing too over the top, but something more varied and unnerving than what we got.
BN13
2024-10-14 16:49:56 +0000 UTCSo, we have another good mystery episode, mixed with psychological horror, mixed with some Twilight Zone moments like Beverly Crusher in the morgue, mixed with Guinan holding down 10-foreward. Yeah, I'm predicting you'll love this one.
BN13
2024-10-14 16:45:45 +0000 UTCAlso I swear I can see a boob in the morgue scene
Phil Ken Sebben
2024-10-14 16:39:07 +0000 UTCThis is probably the first episode I watched in broadcast after the pilot. Until this point I had basically watched the opening 30 minutes of Encounter at Farpoint, hated it, and like a moody teen went on with my life at college. A friend convinced me to check it out again and I re-watched it with my parents' VHS collection taped off the TV. I'm pretty sure this is where I become an active, diehard TNG fan. I loved the 'out of Brink' phrase so much my partner and I used it as shorthand for being too tired to think straight for years, and it ultimately ended up in a song lyric of mine. Absolutely S-tier episode too, I can re-watch it over and over again. Eyes in the dark, one moon circles. It's a tetch corny but not enough to put me off.
Angelaina Marie
2024-10-14 16:37:06 +0000 UTCThis is too TOS-y of an episode to be that low!
Jovet
2024-10-14 16:36:27 +0000 UTCOh, c'mon. Beverly's delivery of "...we will all go insane." is PERFECT!
Jovet
2024-10-14 16:35:42 +0000 UTCTo me they look bad / cheesy / awkward. I think it might have worked better if it was just the background clouds / green stuff with a Deanna voice over instead of floating the actress around on wires and green screening her in.
Forbidden Donut
2024-10-14 16:32:58 +0000 UTCTNG does psychological horror, a reaction just in time for spooky season. I do wish Troi's nightmares were scarier - her wanderimg the empty corridors of the ship in terror, rather than floating through green space calling "WHERE ARE YOU?!" And maybe some of the illusions coulda been scarier, though I doubt they'd flood the set with a tidal wave of blood pouring out of the turbolift.
Nolan
2024-10-14 16:29:32 +0000 UTCI love when Picard is in the turbolift hallucinating being crushed, and everything kinda stops after the doors open with him screaming... until he says "As you were."
Jovet
2024-10-14 16:29:14 +0000 UTCShow has a great Twilight Zone feel to it. Gets really scary at times. On another note actor Brian Tochi plays the relife helmsman. He appeared as a boy named Ray in your "favorite" TOS episode The Children Shall Lead.
Keith S
2024-10-14 16:28:14 +0000 UTCWell, electrons do orbit the nucleus, though not really in the way we think of planets orbiting. Electrons are definitely not like moons, though.

2024-10-14 16:28:09 +0000 UTCWhat's the problem with them?

2024-10-14 16:24:45 +0000 UTCLots of background characters with lines in this one!

2024-10-14 16:24:13 +0000 UTCOne of the creepiest TNG episodes! It's excellent.

2024-10-14 16:23:36 +0000 UTCShame it was aired in March.

2024-10-14 16:21:47 +0000 UTCI still want to know if Keiko takes Miles for a fool.
Jovet
2024-10-14 16:21:04 +0000 UTCSirtis wanted more "action" in the show, and she got it with this one. Unfortunately for her, her flying sequences required her to be suspended up high and she has a big fear of heights!
Jovet
2024-10-14 16:17:10 +0000 UTCThe scene with Dr. Beverly in the makeshift morgue is just in time for Target Horror ™! A deliciously creepy scene. It's a shame it originally aired in mid-March.
Jovet
2024-10-14 16:15:48 +0000 UTCOne of my most rewatched episodes, one of my Top 5 favourite episodes of TNG and that Wes Craven-esque moment when all the corpses sit up sealed for me - as a 14 year old - that TNG was going to be one of my favourite shows of all time. Watching this back in 91 was a revelation and there's something awesome about how TNG's mystery-box and horror-tinged episodes harken back to the influence of shows like THE TWILIGHT ZONE and THE OUTER LIMITS on the genesis of STAR TREK as a whole.
The Sultan
2024-10-14 15:58:18 +0000 UTCB. A banger. I loved this one. The scene in sickbay where Beverly sees the bodies sitting up was incredibly creepy. The only reason I didn’t give it an A was it had some slow pacing at points. You might give it an A for its focus on character over plot, and some good moments (and good Beverly moments). But I thought it should have had a few more of those moments. Still, it’s one I really enjoy. Just not A level enjoy.
Crankygrandma
2024-10-14 15:46:41 +0000 UTCDeus Ex Troi The REM sleep story is interesting but ultimately dull. I skip this one
Phil Ken Sebben
2024-10-14 15:43:55 +0000 UTCI think you’ll like it more than me. A few scenes stick out as positives for me, but in general it is way too convoluted and the acting was below par for our team
Jeffrey
2024-10-14 15:41:22 +0000 UTCI’ll get back to you in a few episodes
Jeffrey
2024-10-14 15:40:00 +0000 UTCAn otherwise fine spooky episode, but God those floating Deanna scenes are rough lol That arguably drags an A down to a B, but maybe that's too harsh.
Forbidden Donut
2024-10-14 15:36:05 +0000 UTCThe nightmare scenes are more stupid than scary. The scenes of Troi flying are laughable. The cast seems 'off' returning to filming after Christmas break. Interesting premise, but ultimately I give this one a D for dud.

2024-10-14 15:31:06 +0000 UTCI'm between an S and an A for this one. Reason? This is one of my most rewatched episodes. The mystery and the horror element is just top notch. Very similar to the "Clues" episode.
valen
2024-10-14 15:28:13 +0000 UTCThis one has one of the creepiest scenes of the series when Dr. Beverly sees the bodies sitting up in the morgue. Perfect for your Halloween viewing. And again Troi's empathic abilities help save the day. I rank this one as "Enjoyable."
KatWithAttitude
2024-10-14 15:10:34 +0000 UTCPrediction : the boys will love this one. The creepy overall vibe gets an A from me. Also, apparently this episode overran massively and had to be severely cut down in the edit.
Jon1701
2024-10-14 14:59:34 +0000 UTCSo this feels like a classic mid-tier episode that the TA will absolutely love. Lots of cool horror moments. Data being op as always. Wish Troi would get some better episodes soon though
Elway Simpson
2024-10-14 14:56:52 +0000 UTCI wanna hear about the SCORE and how perfectly timed this episode is for the season and Channel’s new focus. How did TNG do for a (light) horror theme?
Ross Townsend
2024-10-14 14:49:18 +0000 UTCI hope you guys vibe with this episode; it's the perfect time for something spooky. This disturbed me as a kid, but now I really like this episode. Such a unique premise, creepy atmosphere, and memorable score. And we get the dynamic duo of Data and Troi solving the problem again. Yes, Troi's nightmare scenes are a little cringy, but it's not real life so I can let that slide. Overall, an episode that sticks with me, and perhaps you guys as well, A grade.
Ryan Caulfield
2024-10-14 14:48:13 +0000 UTCI enjoyed this episode. It was moody, creepy, and a perfect episode to watch in October. What more could you ask for?
wildhunt1973
2024-10-14 14:17:52 +0000 UTCIn the grand scope of Star Trek, Troi floating through the dream is hardly the silliest thing we see. But damn it if I don’t laugh my ass off at “WHERE ARE YOUUUU?”
Evan Guthrie
2024-10-14 14:12:19 +0000 UTCAh it’s never going to win awards but I like this. Spooky, atmospheric dumb fun I think
Darren Seal
2024-10-14 14:04:58 +0000 UTCI gave it an A, mainly because it's a good psychological horror episode. The tone of the music was perfect. And another episode where Data wasn't affected and led the crew to a conclusion.
Christopher Dorn
2024-10-14 14:00:24 +0000 UTCThis is one of my personal favorite episodes. I don't know if it'll be one of yours, and I'm fairly sure it won't be, but it terrified me when I first watched it as a child, and that particular nostalgia has always stuck with me. That bit with the corpses in the medical bay.... *shudders* So it gets an S-tier from me. My major niggle: I've always thought it funny that the examples of atoms in the Enterprise computer show electrons orbiting around the nucleus of an atom, even though we know even now that's not how atoms operate. But whatever.... It's important for the episode that this particular interpretation iis used.
John
2024-10-14 13:59:29 +0000 UTCSome of it gets a bit corny, and it isn't Marina Sirtis's finest performance, but it has some effectively creepy moments, like Beverly in the morgue.
Steven Linden
2024-10-14 13:59:13 +0000 UTCThe only D episode of season 4
Josef Nitervol
2024-10-14 13:56:52 +0000 UTCNot the best episode but I give it a C tier. Not bad just very straight down the middle for me. I do enjoy seeing rest of the crew start to lose it because of sleep deprivation, especially at the end. Seems a little stretched out to fill airtime.
marty63026
2024-10-14 13:39:48 +0000 UTCThe acting in this one....well I would say it's bad but that would be generous. You can do better Troy.
