“A time machine in New Jersey,”. I see what you did there

tyranusfan

When she works in choreography she uses the name Cheryl McFadden which is her first name, Gates is her middle name

marty63026

Yeah the Romulan plot is so minor in this one, it’s great

marty63026

Dancing doctor! Amazing episode, exactly what you guys are looking for, the stakes are real but not universe ending 😂. The Romulan’s aren’t the focus which it great, I cared more about the wedding for sure. The fact TNG devoted an episode that centers on O’Brien’s wedding is so great, the balls! S tier forever

marty63026

I thought "I wonder who got married in Master and Commander"

Jovet

Keiko, Spot, Maddox mention, 2nd officers log? I forgot this key episode, I'm upping my rating.

Chris Mickelson

And, while it is occasionally not Brent Spiner, it IS Gates McFadden through the entire routine, showing off her choreography skills.

Avaria

S tier, no question for me. It's one of my favorites for sure and I think the boys will give it at least an A if not another S. Data's perspective is a ton of fun, we meet Keiko the wife of the most important man in Starfleet, Mile's Edward O'brien. Just a ton of fun stuff going on in this one. I love episodes like this.

s0rd3z

No name yet

Jovet

My first instinct was an A tier. But then I remembered that fucking smile. Makes it an S.

TomEmilioDavies

The episode where Miles misses all the 🚩 🚩 🚩

Benjamin Azure

Yes it does.

Ron Hubbard Jr

S4E15 is my favorite TNG episode.

Ron Hubbard Jr

Keiko O'Brien joins the TNG family!

Ron Hubbard Jr

Wonderful episode. This episode really brought O'Brien to the level of the main cast in my opinion.

Ron Hubbard Jr

🚨RED ALERT🚨 By my estimation, watching S4E15 means that Alex and Josh will be half-way through experiencing The Next Generation. That's just a few weeks away!

Jovet

Finally, the show can actually begin.

#MaxwellDidNothingWrong

Oh right, there was an 'A' plot in this right?

#MaxwellDidNothingWrong

Who wrote this fan-fiction? Josh, Alex? Which of you wrote this? Did you find a time machine in New Jersey, write a bunch of fan service then send it back in time under a pseudonym? Are you 'Harold Apter'? Well, on behalf of everyone, good job.

#MaxwellDidNothingWrong

This episode set up the next one nicely. Season four episode 12 is my favorite episode of Star Trek, this episode is the foundation for it.

Just another Red Shirt

Really? Well if you only go for looks ...

Sam Langanke

Spot

Sam Langanke

Good episode but, I'm not gonna lie, when Picard started his wedding ceremony speech my first thought was, and then the Romulans attack...

Nick Sauer

But only for the surreptitiously-placed camera, I'll bet.

Jovet

If this isn’t taylormade for you boys… I’ll change my name to Brent Spiner! And of course Data is a cat person! That’s why he’s the best !

Sixto

I love this episode, and I think you guys will love it too. We get a slice of of life, more about the hardest working man in Starfleet, Chief Miles Edward O'Brien, and tons of character stuff with Data. Plus, Romulans. Those sneaky bastards. Prediction: S tier from both of you.

Paul O'Neal

Every time i get married, i also play hide and seek first.

Connor Fallon

I would say the Romulans are the side plot. Data is the main plot

Jeffrey

I've never really known how to feel about this episode. My favorite part is honestly them starting to develop O'Brien into a full fledged character. Something which really does pay off in the long run. The actual main plot never really held my interest. It's just generic "Romulans are bad" type shit that we've seen so many times before. The Data stuff is fine but I think he has plenty of stronger episodes.

Spencer Loften

Shame he doesn't have a name yet.

Jovet

S-Tier solely for the introduction of Data's cat.

Elizabeth N

Goof: When Data asks the replicator for Feline Supplement #74, it produces a glass dish with barely any food in it. When he sets it on the floor, it's over half full. Bonus: While the cat is chowing down on his food, a few bugs are visible in the food, and a bug crawls across the food inside the dish, right before the camera shot changes.

Jovet

A great episode I bet y'all will love. Bonus: Gates McFadden really can dance and worked as a choreographer before being cast as Dr. Crusher.

Cirk Bejnar

Prediction: You are going to jump all over Data's behavior during his "...a sudden course correction to the Neutral Zone would make me ...very nervous" line.

Jovet

“This does not remind me of you.”

Jovet

SO much continuity, both in referencing the past, and in establishing new elements that will become relevant in the future . Yet it is mostly a standalone episode, and that’s exactly how trek should do it, and does for most of the 90s.

Tim b

I would expect that Geordi is Miles's CO?

Jovet

Yep! Spot on! I remember that!

Jovet

This is a great look into everyday life on the Enterprise and a peek at a major life event for the everyman Miles Edward O'Brien.

Jovet

Utterly charming, so much to love here, Data writing to Maddox, the dancing Doctor, O’Brien getting some nice character stuff, Alan Scarfe as a Romulan and the arrival of the best Next Generation character of all time: Data’s Cat. Throw in a nice score from Ron Jones and you have another classic for this season.

Darren Seal

It’s hilarious and makes me laugh every time even though I know it’s gonna happen.

Paul Rymer

This is the slice of life episode that you’ve been wanting. You even get a wedding and it’s Obrien’s. Something that I never noticed, was that Geordi was the best man.

Sainjl

One of my all-time favourites. I remember back in season one you guys said you'd like to see the crew just going about their day. Well here it is.

Regan

This is one of my favorites. We get to dig deeper into Obrien’s character. Some nice callbacks in this episode. Commander Maddox gets mentioned a few times (the log is for him) and Picard’s lines in the wedding is a nice throwback to TOS: “Balance of Terror”. I’ve always been a fan of the actor who plays Admiral Mendak here. There’s a subtlety to his performance that I think works perfectly for a Romulan.

Column Meanie

“Tastes great, less filler”

Jovet

Hidden talent unlocked: The dancing Doctor Beverly Crusher. 💃➿👠

Jovet

Humans often think of Vulcans as cold and bee-eye-itch-y, when they're just being logical.

Jovet

If you two don't laugh hysterically at Data's smile while he practices dancing, we're gonna have words. hahaha

Jovet

O'Brien Tier. I've revised my prediction in the tier list post upon further reflection.

John

...Chief O'Brien's life continues forward by marrying a Ten in Ten Forward...

Jovet

It features O'Brien, so it will be the tier above S: The T tier.

Jovet

Unlike "Future Imperfect" this one is very rewatchable. I don't enjoy repeating some of the emotional wedding drama, but it's a part of the episode.

Jovet

A slice of life episode featuring Data, Beverly and Chief O'Brien with continuity from Measure of a Man will probably be S+. I have always liked this one.

Strife

Now the show gets really good with the introduction of Spot!

KMScudder

I thought the Vulcan ambassador was a real B word. Then turns out she's a Romulan spy which explains it enough for me.

Keith S

The scene where Data learns how to dance is fun.

Keith S

What do you think about the Chief’s wife? Specifically, could the GOAT do better than Keiko?

Evan Guthrie

When someone mentions Season 4, this is the episode I immediately think of. New concept for Trek, and solid character development 👌

The Ninth Doctor

Nothing less than a 10 for The Chief, and the introduction to Keiko!

The Ninth Doctor

The Chief gets a wife, and begins his long-overdue transition out of the background cast! First appearance of Keiko! Data gets a cat! The Dancing Doctor! Plus a new-concept (for Trek) 'day in the life' episode on the Enterprise, with bonus Romulans! I mean what's not to like..? Solid A, at least.

The Ninth Doctor

I predict you’re going to like this one. Data, O’Brien, Maddox is mentioned. Lots of neat observations from Data.

tyranusfan

Miles and Keiko's wedding, Data making a Vlog, what's not to love.

Angarl

This isn't my favorite episode. I can get why you guys like it. It has everything you like--pure character study. I just feel the plot is good but not anything above that. For me, plot has to always come first, character development comes because of the plot. I give it a solid B. Glad you liked it, though.

wildhunt1973

Superb episode, a new character, with O’Brien more of a main than recurring role.

Paul Rymer

I wish we had a build up to this episode instead of just dropping the marriage right on us.

Nerd's Gold

Good Star Trek brought to you by Brent Spiner & a compelling plot. What more can you want? :)

Paul

This to me is not only a great episode, but the kind of episode we will probably not see much, if ever, in this current era of television. It's a prime example of why I loved how many episodes there were for each season of these Star Trek shows because it allows for these creative detours, including ones that focus on the characters in more of a slice-of-life kind of way. I always loved the whole Data-Crusher dance stuff, and I still find it hilarious when he smiles. Getting to hear Data's thoughts on his life and the people around him is great as well. I also appreciate the introduction of Spot the cat and Keiko O'Brien.

Forbidden Donut

Exactly!

JP RFL

Great Data episode and additional O’Brien character building. The fact that it shows Data’s continued contact with Maddox like he said he would is great. There is a lot that happens in this episode and seeing it from Data’s perspective is such a great way to show it. By showing Data’s typical day, it kind of gets into the typical day of other crew members. One of my favorites.

JP RFL

Data explaining his day is perfect. He even gives his insight into humanity and it's pros and cons.

Christopher Dorn

Data, Beverly and Miles are all featured in the pseudo-sequel to Measure of Man. A tier, maybe a soft S.

EnigmaticPenguin

What a great "day in a life" and "kinda lower decks" episode. We learn more about Data and we get more focus on O'Brien than we may have ever gotten. He actually is a character here, instead of just "transporter guy who happens to have a name", which is great to see. I also love how Data is doing a quasi diary for Maddox from Measure of a Man. Seems like there was a bit of growth for Maddox in the background. Honestly, this is one of my season favourites. Btw, CAT!!!!!

JHVJ

Josh's S-tier is for cat, Alex S-tier for the O'brien focus. This episode is probably the closest to "Family" we've gotten since then. It just has added Romulan intrigue. And continuity. The Season 4-iest episode yet.

Nolan

To no one’s surprise, the Chief gets with and marries a ten.

Mister Hope

And have A & B plots ever mingled so well? I could gush for paragraphs but I’ll stop.

rear adm. crackbiscuit

Easily lands in my top 10 of all Trek as well.

rear adm. crackbiscuit

It certainly is up there ^^

JHVJ

Stellar! Hard to pick a favorite scene, but I’m gonna: when Data’s hilarious narration predicts Picard’s actions with the warbirds and the episode pivots to full blown Ron Jones-fueled space opera! Good tense space opera with the best red alert sequence ever. Some days the bear gets you. Magnificent.

rear adm. crackbiscuit

Such a fun episode! We get to see a little more of O’Brien’s life through Data’s POV, and find out data has a cat. Throw in a Romulan plot on a Data story and you have a recipe for a great episode.

Brian Moore

It is not the most exiting episode but it is a treat if you want details on how life is day to day on the enterprise.

Syl

Welcome to Chief Week! Where we celebrate "Perhaps The Most Important Person In Starfleet History!" First up: Some fluff padding. Enjoy!

Avaria

I think you'll like this episode. For one, it's a Data episode which you always like, and I think you'll appreciate some extra O'Brien. He actually gets to play a real role in this episode, the first time he gets more than just a few lines. Even if Keiko isn't the most talented guest star ever, it's nice to see some normal life. Plus a mystery. What's not to love? Not an S-tier episode, but I think it's a solid B. Maybe an A, depending on how generous you're feeling.

John

I predict an S-Tier ranking for you guys. This one has all the things you like.

Steven Portillo

This is my favorite episode in all of Star Trek!
