I usually skip this one. Only a C for me.

Jim J

My favourite Beverly episode of TNG. My favourite episode of the Season, and one of my top 5 of the whole show.

jon bolton

I liked this one way better on second viewing than what I remembered back in the (tm). Does anyone know if this was supposed to be a "Halloween" episode based upon its release date?

Nick Sauer

B tier for overall, but A tier for Gates McFadden. This really got her to shine and step out of her comfort zone.

Firekrys FWO

One of the best uses of the episodic structure, despite the showrunners still finding a way to have a nice callback to something I forgot about

Deep Red

I love so many things things about this episode but I can't S-tier is. Downsides: 1) The traveler. Bleugh. 2) The "flash" at main engineering at the very start makes it too obvious what happened.

Ian Westcott

I gave it an A, but it’s easily a top 5 rewatch for me which sounds pretty S…

rear adm. crackbiscuit

Dive, Beverly! DIVE!

Eric Singer

I have a bias for any and all Doctor Crusher episodes. I just enjoy them, no matter how terrible, but THIS ONE... A genuine great romp of a TNG episode. I love the tone, the weirdness, her performance. It's just fun.

ScotchBeard78

Fun fact! Gates found out she was a few weeks preggers shortly after filming this one, and yes that was her doing her own stunts!

Column Meanie

No episode featuring Wesley can ever rank above C-tier, no matter how good it is.

Charlie's Illiteracy

I didn't know about anyone's opinion but my own (and my dad's) on this one until recently. I've always loved this episode. The Sci-Fi mystery episodes are few and far between, and they're some of my favorites. Huge S+ for me

BaNkR17

I think you're right in your assessment

Collin Freeman

A solid episode which rises to A tier on the strength of Gates. Honestly if it had been a Riker or even Picard episode I would have downgraded it to a B. Beverly’s increasing exasperation with the rest of the crew is priceless.

Glenn Johnson Barnes

I really love this episode. It is in my top 10 of all TNG episodes.

HuskerChuck

Solid episode. B for banger. It’s not one of the best overall through the season so I can’t give it an A, but it’s a good episode.

Brian Moore

This is about as close to The Twilight Zone as Star Trek ever gets! A real banger! Gates McFadden absolutely Crushers it!

Raphael Gaytan

Not a bad one and really one of the best Dr Crusher episodes. You don’t really know what going on for a decent portion of it so it keeps you guessing.

JP RFL

A+ for Gates' performance and a great mystery. And I'm going against the grain and saying I like the Traveler. I never thought of anything creepy about him in his episodes... that seems to be a filter brought about by a more jaded society in the 2020s.

David Wayne Fox

I didn't like it as a kid, but it's a good mystery (at least until ruined), a rare Beverley centric episode, and a sci-fi concept that isn't often rehashed. Really pays not to skip episodes on rewatches.

#MaxwellDidNothingWrong

Wesley is 18 and can legally consent now, it's how the traveler knew to come

#MaxwellDidNothingWrong

The creepy creeper who creeps on Wesley down grades this episode for me. Especially since the resolution is so stupid.

Nerd's Gold

I love this episode, but even then i think it’s more A tier rather than S. I watch it often, but i dont think it blows my socks off like “Yesterday’s Enterprise” does. But i love the slight attitude the computer gives Beverly.

Connor Fallon

It's an okay episode. C-tier

Chucri kahwaji

The first time through, there's a mystery, but it's ruined by the description of the episode most often seen. Since you guys don't look at thumbnails or read episode descriptions, or even know the title, the mystery might indeed be an interesting one. But while this might be an A-tier episode on the first watch, on the second watch it becomes a little less everything, since you know how it's all going turn out, exactly what is going on, and all that.

John

It’s a great episode, but ruining the mystery pulls it back from S to only an A.

Adam Zey

I predict the TA won't like how Geordi and Wesley get to explain it all in the middle of the story. I would have preferred to stay with Beverly the whole time. That's the only thing that brings it down from S-tier for me.

Alexander McKechnie

There's enough detail that allows you to maybe figure it out a little, but the full reveal I think is fairly late compared to some shows. I think they make it enough of a mystery long enough that it works.

Joe Concepts

Alex says he likes mysteries.

MrDeadstu

Probably my worst S-Ranked episode. Objectively, it probably should be an A,but I love the concept and Gates' acting so much that it gets a soft bump for me.

AC C

I give it an A because it's one of the few Dr. Crusher-centered episodes, and it's very well done.

wildhunt1973

Agreed. I gave it a B but if it wasn’t for the Wesley gimmick to get into the plot I might have given it an A

Paul Hess

I'd put it at A. A very Twilight Zone-esque episode. I predict Josh and Alex will put it at a B. They may not like the technobabble and (a little) repetition, but I think Gates McFadden carries the episode with her performance.

Andrew Buel

Same, I love this one

JHVJ

For me, this is S-Tier. Dare I say, it's the best Dr. Crusher episode of the series. Cliff Bole directed. Excellent performance by Gates McFadden (her facial expressions are superb). Fun fact: Gates found out she was pregnant during the filming of this episode. For the rest of the season, as her belly got bigger, she wore the blue lab coat to conceal it.

Darin Wagner

Wow, people love this episode. I’ve never actually liked it

Jeffrey

"S" episodes are (should be) pretty rare. Absolute masterpieces are not that common, especially in television fiction.

Jovet

I don't know which line you mean!

Jovet

I love this episode. Supremely well-written.

Jovet

You'll probably hate all the techno-babble but it's a decent episode centered on Dr. Crusher.

Rogerbear60

Good solid A. Gates is great and it's an out of the norm situation for her which is cool. Yet again Wesley is wreaking havoc with his out of control experiments lol. Which is a bit repetitive but helps serve as a nice nod back to s1 too.

s0rd3z

fun ep. Not "A" tier but really good

Prof Moff

Is the cause of Beverly's experiences revealed too early? Going from memory only, I think there are clear repeated references to what Wesley has been working on. For me the enjoyment is McFadden's performance and the matter of factness of the other crew members stating a diminishing crew is all the ship needs. Very Twilight Zone-like.

Numinous2019

There have only ever been 10 Patreon members. There was never any need for more than 10.

Numinous2019

It probably should be A-tier, but I'm giving this episode S-tier for me. The sci-fi plot is great, with a good mystery; the acting from Gates McFadden is fantastic, the visual effects are solid, and there's some nice continuity on display here as well. And Dr. Crusher gets to problem solve, without having to do any doctoring! This is one of my favourite episodes that I rewatch frequently and still enjoy every single time.

Ryan Caulfield

A very strong A+ for me

Paul

Most anticipated “reaction to a line” - “Mr Worf, fire” Second most anticipated reaction - we all know which line from this episode… 🤣

Brian Dunleavy

A-tier; fantastic Dr. Crusher spisode, solid premise and script elevated by the excellent performance. A favorite to rewatch for 30+ yrs. 'A' becasue it is a typical premise (for Trek, anyway!) but with above average script and editing and with exceptional performance. EDIT to add: Surprised to see so many comments referring to the 'mystery' being ruined ... zillions of TV episodes were mystery box attempts and some entire series were built on the concept. The reveal is a destination and can only be reached once; great writing, well-executed creates a journey that can be enjoyed forever.

J Potter

A few bonus points for the return of an enjoyable guest character, offset by the overused "Deus ex Wesley" plot mechanism. Above average episode that swings for some real poignancy, but despite being really good it doesn't quite come together to make it into S or A tier IMO.

Paul Hess

Interesting sci-fi premise/focused episode with emphasis on Dr Crusher. Gates turns in her usual good performance.

Collin Freeman

I see what you did there

Collin Freeman

This is the easiest S. one of my all time favourites

John McDonald

There's a bunch of episodes that I never tire of watching. This one is S Tier for me. Plus, Crusher gets some action that has nothing to do with Dr stuff.

THE Fans

Unforgettable!

Daniel Garrett

I put this at A due to the high re-watch enjoyment factor, and it’s a pure character piece involving our crew and one guest actor who isn’t in it much. It’s good to watch twice as the first time you can enjoy the mystery; the second time it’s spotting the clues once you know what’s going on. A great “bottle show” and a good one for Beverley fans.
