TNG S3 AWARDS - Best Character

Final award! Who overall is the best character in TNG season 3?

Comments

Picard is one the best characters in all of television

ET

Barclay

Aaron Wells

Nerd alert! it wasn’t in Ten Forward. Same set but redressed as their auditorium.

Column Meanie

Again, it has to be Patrick Stewart and Picard just totally the goat. However, as an honorable mention Goes to Lieutenant Barkley “broccoli“

Thicketdweller

Worf being 3rd is a war crime.

Chuck Rice

Picard became the greatest captain in Season 3, hands down.

Steven Portillo

Bingo. This is Picard.

Chris S.

Simply awesome. Best character TNG ever had bar none.

Chris S.

Yeah, sometimes the one you’re thinking of isn’t there. But then I thought about it and we have to remember these choices are from the TA perspective, not ours, although many of them are on point. But not all.

Chris S.

Ahh, god. Ask me tomorrow or yesterday, and it might be a different answer…or may not be. But for this moment, I have to say Data. But it’s so hard.

Ragnarok

There were a few polls here I didn't respond to because I didn't like any of the choices or I liked too many of them.

As a child in the 70’s, I was reared on the adventures of Captain Kirk, Spock and McCoy! This was the season that Captain Picard won me over (and I suspect many Star Trek fans) as my favorite captain! The man just goes through so much in this and the seasons to come…and handles it all with dignity, strength and conviction! A legend!

Raphael Gaytan

For me it's 100% Captain Picard. Not only is he great in episodes that involve him directly (Who Watches the Watchers, The Survivors, Yesterday's Enterprise, The Defector, Allegiance, etc.) but he has excellent moments in episodes that actually centred around other characters. For example, refusing to let Data hand over Lal, standing with Worf in front of the Klingon High Council, mind-melding with Sarek to save his negotiations, helping Jeremy Aster deal with his mother's death, and even ingeniously piloting the Enterprise out of a deathly booby trap. Give this man the award he deserves!

Ryan Caulfield

Exactly, he's got the knack of the drive-by poetic observation

James Johnson

Underrated comment. Dr. Pulaski never would have slapped Wesley across the face for missing a concert in Ten Forward, and that's a scene that absolutely needed to happen.

He becomes that character who 1v1s the character an episode is centered on (guest or main cast), and just crystalizes what the episode is really about. Data also does this quite a bit, but often Data needs to talk with Picard in the same episode to get the human perspective on whatever's going on.

mrxak

The superlative Dr. Stubbs.

I'm voting for Picard here because he wasn't in the poll for best character development. He had so many great (character-developing) moments all through season 3. There were other great episodes that focused individually on various characters, but Picard was the standout the whole season and he's the character we got to know the best this season. He also went through so much stuff, I think he became a better, stronger man because of it. And even though you didn't like him in Captain's Holiday, it did show more of who the man is when he isn't wearing the uniform and the mask he must wear with the rest of the crew. This season, Picard talked a primitive civilization out of worshiping him as a deity. He geeked out over a Promellian battle cruiser and then took the helm. He convinced a Romulan admiral to turn over classified technical specs and force deployments, and then outmaneuvered the Romulan Empire's trap for the Enterprise. He fought hand-to-hand with some Klingons. He got laid. He had a mind-meld. He got assimilated. And all the while, he dropped some of the most iconic lines in Star Trek history. Of course, the other poll options absolutely had a great season 3, thanks to individual episodes. Data served as an excellent foil to a number of guest stars. He got numerous episodes chatting with people in the brig or Ten Forward, and he got his first real solo missions. Riker went from being the Kirk-lite bridge-and-away-team-guy to a nuanced, mature officer that we know and love in off-duty settings too. He finishes the season very strong, The Best of Both Worlds is a Riker episode, not a Picard episode. And Worf, who was always great when he got an episode focused on him in prior seasons, starts to really show his comedic timing in this season, in addition to all the great Klingon stuff from The Bonding and Sins of the Father. It was great to see him develop his relationships with Picard, Troi, and Geordi as well, instead of just his bromance with Riker.

Best character this season is arguably Beverly Crusher for replacing that annoying doctor from season 2 :P

dkenobi

Picard has loads of fantastic scenes in multiple episodes; Who Watches the Watchers, The Defector, The Survivors, Booby Trap, Yesterdays Enterprise.

James Johnson

I gave it to Picard, as others have said he’s fully accepted as the captain now and the crew is like a family.

Paul Rymer

This was like “ok Chris, just pick one”. They are all so good, I almost didn’t want to take the poll lol.

Chris S.

I gave it to Data as he had a few big episodes of character development this season. Picard, while I love him this season, I think develops a lot more post-BoBW, so I would wait to give it to him till maybe S4. It's tricky with Riker and Worf as they have some great episodes across the series but it's hard to give any one season to them.

Kristina Weber

Pour one out for my homey Stubbs.

Juan Tutrífor

Gotta give this one to Picard. The others are all fantastic characters but Picard had some profound moments where he shows his versatility as a captain. (This is no way a biased vote because I'm a huge Patrick Stuart fan...)

Dru Blood

Honorable mention: Dr. Stubbs. LOL

Forbidden Donut

To put things into perspective, I don’t think BOBW would’ve worked at the end of S2 as well as it did in S3. Picard’s character just hadn’t found its footing until S3. He was a little too curmudgeony to really love. I’d say that in this season, we finally get the Picard that we’ll see through the rest of the series.

Lwaxana’s Poolboy

Picard. In the third season Stewart (and the writers ofc) cemented the character as the TV Dad for an entire generation. ... and he just keeps getting better!

J Potter

I went with Picard because this was the season that made me a Picard fan. I was already on board with Data, Worf, and Riker but this was the season that made me appreciate Picard not just as a leader but also as a person, and made him an equal to Kirk in every respect. In the Defector we see his poise as a diplomat and tactician. In “Who Watches the Watchers” we see his grace and patience as a teacher. In “Sarek” and “The Bonding” we see a more human side of him, his compassion. In “Captain’s Holiday” and “Menage a Troi” we see his ability to accept the absurd. Overall just a great season to round out our captain.
