Frakes for "The Offspring".

2024-08-13 15:24:27 +0000 UTCI am comparing Cliff Bowles status to that of the multi year winning of Indiana University as playboys partying against college in America after they won at 10 consecutive years Playboy refused to admit them into the running anymore because they claimed they were now. “professionals”

2024-08-13 03:22:15 +0000 UTCIn this case, I chose Windrich Colby for the bonding, which, even in the day I thought was one of the most powerful episodes. After all we had a ship full of kids and how could we see this through a kids perspective increasing the stakes for the crew? The heart and humanity of that episode is by far the first time I felt that they had made an episode that was transcendent. An honorable mention definitely has to go to Jonathan Frakes for offspring. And it’s almost like you have to pull cliff bowl out of the running because he’s the goat

2024-08-13 02:58:24 +0000 UTCI think the Bonding was well directed, but the episode's biggest strength was the writing.

2024-08-12 18:58:51 +0000 UTCI have to say that while the script may not have been as dramatic or impactful as other episodes, when it comes to strictly directing "Perspective" was the showcase. That got my vote.
Ken R
2024-08-12 17:18:21 +0000 UTCI’ve read that he didn’t want to do it. Even he thought it was a shitburger. Let’s not forget he also directed “Heart of Glory”, “Elementary, Dear Data”, “Matter of Honor” and established the Borg in “Q Who”.

2024-08-12 16:35:26 +0000 UTCYikes. Am I the only one that agrees with them on The Bonding? XD
Dan Halstead
2024-08-12 16:30:10 +0000 UTCRob Bowman, director of Shades of Gray.

2024-08-12 15:52:32 +0000 UTCRob Bowman will always be my favorite TNG director, with Cliff Bole, Jonathan Frakes and David Carson rounding out the top spots. David Carson’s success with “Yesterday’s Enterprise” helped him get the director’s gig on the first TNG motion picture!

2024-08-12 15:29:28 +0000 UTCHow can you love the episode but say the directing was “so-so”?

2024-08-12 15:21:32 +0000 UTCAgreed!!!!!!!!
Chris S.
2024-08-12 15:21:19 +0000 UTCI loved Yesterdays Enterprise, so I shouldn’t complain. I guess overall, what I meant, is that he was so-so to me.
Chris S.
2024-08-12 15:20:44 +0000 UTC“Yesterday’s Enterprise” … in my top 5 TNG list, for sure.
Tom Occhipinti
2024-08-12 15:01:52 +0000 UTC@Chris S. The producers (and presumably cast) liked the way Carson directed The Enemy, so he got invited back for Yesterday's Enterprise. He brought more of a UK sensibility to his directing (whatever that means).

2024-08-12 14:31:41 +0000 UTCYeah. David Carson was very average. If Cliff Bole, or even Jonathan Frakes got ahold of that one…’nuff said. I dont know why Carson was picked for other major things either. 😉

2024-08-12 14:29:53 +0000 UTCGotta give it up for Jonathan Frakes. He was a natural from the beginning, and his first outing “The Offspring, was top notch!
Chris S.
2024-08-12 14:29:14 +0000 UTCYesterday’s Enterprise would simply be less of the perfect episode it is had anyone other than David Carson directed it. Truly was cinematic.

2024-08-12 14:19:21 +0000 UTCIt's unfair to include YE in this one. It's on another level. Like a special project ... let's pretend we're making a movie, a demo for TNG's "afterlife"!
J Potter
2024-08-12 14:18:33 +0000 UTCTying the director to the episodes really makes a difference. I give it to David Carson, but honorable mentions to Les Landau, Winrich Kolbe, Jonathan Frakes, and, yes, Cliff Bole
Collin Freeman
2024-08-12 14:16:59 +0000 UTCFrakes should get an Honorable mention for a fantastic job at directing an otherwise excellently written episode: The Offspring.

2024-08-12 14:10:47 +0000 UTCWho was the chap who directed Captains Holiday? He should definitely be a nominee
