PATRON TAKES - Star Trek TNG Season 3 Episode 25

NO SPOILERS - If it is information regarding anything THAT DOES OR DOES NOT HAPPEN after this episode, don't include it in your comment.

Here are some tips if you want your take to be read in the video:

- NEW here? Put that in your take! We love introducing new Patrons to the community through reading their first take!

- Keep it brief! If it takes more than 10 seconds to read aloud, we will probably skip it regardless of the content.

- Be unique! If your take is about the same thing as several others, you’re limiting your chances.

The special effects for this one are... something

Syl

It's a good, solid science fiction plot, giving the viewer just enough at a time to keep all of us guessing. I've never gone looking for this episode when I randomly search for one, but it is much better than I've given it credit for. Great Beverly episode. She's dazzling in it.

Michael Metrick

Holly SHIT? I never realized back in the day of broadcast or VHS that this was showing the guys teeth. Clearly the casting department understood how poor the resolution was back in the day, because they clearly wanted someone watching across the room to see the incoming package.

Mark Wood

This episode is "fine". It lowers your expectations going into the season finale, which will **REDACTED**.

Jack Shipley

I like this one. Dr Beverly is awesome in this one. I like the overall all premise or a society being scared of change and doing anything to keep it from happening. The fact they want to kill John because he’s evolving into a superior being is chilling.

marty63026

Same 😂

Column Meanie

This looks like another episode that was written for the original series more than TNG. An average Trek by the numbers episode but, I did like the weapon system the Zalkonian ship used on the Enterprise. I used to play a lot of Star Fleet Battles (Star Trek based spaceship combat game) as a kid so unique weapons like that appeal to me although it did sort of have plot device written all over it.

Nick Sauer

yeah, the next episode sucks big time!

Tim b

I do like the opening line Worf says to Geordi about showing "the fire in your eyes." And LaForge just looks at him like... WTF? Kinda forgettable, unfortunately.

Billy T. Riker

I can relate.

Jovet

Seriously people this episode is clearly more than adequate

Mark Wood

Seriously you have to spend extra on that.

Mark Wood

Well at least you can look forward to Shades of Gray Part II next episode.....

Mark Wood

Yeah kind of forgettable as are most of the crusher episodes I know you guys like her but she really works for me in an ensemble and less so when they focus on her

Scarpad’s Domain

This - top comment. Have felt this way about this episode since first seeing it in the 90s.

The Ninth Doctor

This was definitely an episode. Definition of mid - not great, not terrible. Almost like they were saving their budget and creativity for future episodes...

The Ninth Doctor

this episode isn't really bad, but it's just sort of there. I keep forgetting it exists. Young gay me saw this episode and said "oh, hey there..." Yeah, some "future fashions" are ridiculously revealing. Oh, and neck-breaking stunts are cool.

Ian Westcott

Totally, this one is the least watched 45 minutes of tape in VHS history. It’s the opposite of Basic Instinct (ironic, given what the two have in common).

Chris Christison

FUN FACT: This alien species also has a penis. How do we know? Oh, you'll know . . .

Kyle Stewart

Yeah, the writers phoned this one in.

John

*The hole point (pun intended) of this episode is to show everything down there because of tight Spandex.

Jovet

I find it rather boring and predictable.

Jovet

I've always felt that about this one, Ménage à Troi and Tin Man....

Greg Quinn

Can't take your eyes off of it, huh?

Jovet

When John Doe gets his memory back he remembers that he is a history buff for ancient earth history...namely world War II. His favorite battle to study is the Battle of the BULGE....

Greg Quinn

But the spandex alien is hung

Jovet

It wasn't a romantic involvement.

Jovet

He definitely had one.

Jovet

Very, very tight.

Jovet

I can't remember

Jovet

feels like a first or second season episode. Not obviously bad, just a bit dull.

paultardspambot .

Ain't that the truth.

Mike Rogers

Everybody seems to say what I think... not bad, not good. Okay, more good than bad.

Mike Rogers

The pinnacle of "Meh".

David Wayne Fox

This episode cemented the fact that only Patrick Stewart and his red-headed associate can help a person deal with their emerging mutant powers.

Adam Reid

This has to be the most non-descript episode in the series’ run. Not good or bad, just there. It’s also probably the one episode I’ve seen the least of the whole series, I don’t even remember ever having seen it air in reruns in the 90s. So basically I’m commenting to say I have nothing to comment on about this episode, carry on.

Carl Williams

It's got a lot of Dr Beverly, I suppose, other than that - meh

lc

I barely remember this episode except for one thing. When I was very little, my dad was watching this on tv and I saw the moment Worf falls and breaks his neck. I ran away crying and refused to watch any other episode. I believed Worf had actually died for years. Wasn't until I was a teenager and finally watched the full show that I realised my mistake!

Elizabeth N

I believe this is my least-favorite episode of S3. It's predictable, boring, and features a cast member that received no credit: Mark La Mura's prominent package.

Jovet

Yay, Dr. Crusher, your favourite character! Shame that this episode is not bad (I like it), but very forgettable (save for the last few minutes). I'm guessing it will be a short discussion for this one, though I am interested what you guys think of this week's guest character.

Ryan Caulfield

another episode. enjoy the finale

David Marcoot

All this episode was good for was a YouTube mashup of Darth Vader force choking the Enterprise crew.

JGoss

Meh. That is all.

NivekTheIncorrigible

The hole point of this episode is to slow everything down, a B tier episode that has average everything but it puts you in the mood for what comes next to really pop

Warpiggaming

The calm before the storm. Best thing about this story is that you get to experience the passage of time on the ship, as it takes place over a long period of time. Gives an in-universe reason for our characters to care about the well-being of the guest character.

THE LORE!!!

I remember this episode more for not being memorable than anything else. There's nothing offensively bad about it, but even in the self-contained Star Trek universe, this feels a little self-contained.

John

This episode was much more enjoyable on the re-watch than I remember. Solid, but basic Trek. I think the subsequent episodes help relegate this to below mediocrity.

Miah1138

I really like this episode. Solid B-B+. The Slenderman spandex suit at the end really takes me out of it at the end, but other than that, super enjoyable. Maybe I have a soft spot because I'm always interested in what shows do in the penultimate episodes of seasons. So far in this show they've been Conspiracy and Peak Performance and now this. TOS also had both City on the Edge of Forever and All Our Yesterdays. I don't know where I'm going with this, but I'm always intrigued by what they do before the finale.

Elway Simpson

I love his teeth and brain exposed by the injury, and all the 24th century medical stuff. I remember this episode for the poor guy naked in sickbay except for a metallic napkin, then the skintight white outfit with the opposite of a camel toe, distracting me from his anodyne acting.

Smear Campaign

I like the bit at the end too, but I’m used to hearing it at the end of a different episode!

Lwaxana’s Poolboy

I don’t hate this episode, it’s fine. I think what hampers it, like with a lot of Troi episodes, is that the writers insisted on adding some romance element to the plot. Just let Crusher crush the episode with her skills!

Lwaxana’s Poolboy

The episode that I always used to fast forward on the VHS to get to the Finale

General Trelane

Its like when Raj on Big Bang Theory was able to talk to girls when he was drunk but then they pointed out his beer was non-alcoholic.

Alan Thompson

Medium episode

Just another Red Shirt

We find out where all these damn God beings are coming from & someone is finally doing something about it. Otherwise kinda a dud, the dip before the final Rollercoaster Rise of this season

Justin DiBari

I feel like every really good season of TNG has at least a couple episodes that I forget exist. I think you can infer what I'm implying about this episode. Hopefully the season finale is better

Deep Red

This episode is here as reminder of all the money they spent on Yesterday’s Enterprise. That’s why it’s just a cheesy spandex suit alien at the end. But hey, at least the season finale is next. You guys have a hot streak with those, right? RIGHT?!?

Brian Moore

So, this episode. Hmm. We had Sarek (absolute perfection), a campy Lwaxana episode, this utterly forgettable entry, and then ... (oh wait, no spoilers).

Frank Tagader

Haven't watched this episode in a long time. But I remember it being very "meh".

TomEmilioDavies

What a lame mutant ability though - "I have the power to grant you NOT being a frickin dork around women." I mean, if he gave me that I'd take it, but it'd be a kinda disappointing draw in the X-Men universe. What would his codename be? Wingman?

Nolan

Finally, a Beverly episode. And it revolves around her actually being a doctor. Well, until she throws medical ethics out the window and becomes involved with her patient. Nice brain make up though.

Nolan

It could have been worse

#MaxwellDidNothingWrong

This is the episode before the next episode.

JGoss

An unfortunate dud right before the finale. This episode is in my bottom ten of all TNG. I never rewatch it, and I only do so because it's with you guys. It's a dull snoozefest from start to finish, likely a necessary filler while the team focuses on the vastly superior finale. A by-the-book romance of the week with a worthless character and the sudden persecution angle thrown in at the last second is not compelling. You will quickly forget this one.

Justin B

I like this one but it’s formulaic.

Sharron

Have always enjoyed this one. The mystery around John Doe was enough to keep me guessing. The persecution twist in the last acts was a dark turn the episode needed. While I appreciate the focus on Crusher, it bothers me that the writers chose to put her in a Florence Nightingale situation. She’s supposed to be above personal relationships with her patients. Love Dennis McCarthy’s music in this one, especially in the last shot.

Column Meanie

Has a few nice moments in it but otherwise, meh. Boring ep; skippable. On to the finale!

Lovok

Just like with the movie 'Labyrinth', all I remember of this episode is "The Bulge" 🤷‍♀️

Brooke Hill

This is the true calm before the epic storm to come. I have to admit, it’s not one that I typically rewatch and watching it with your reaction is the first time seeing it in a while. Usually when I rewatch the show with someone, it’s the next episode I want them to see. I think this one begins setting the precedent for Beverly to have some of the oddest episodes.

JP RFL

I thought the premise was pretty interesting. Unfortunately I find the guest character pretty cringe because he feels like he's straight out of a romance novel. Could have been better.

BN13

Very much Star Trek by numbers here - it’s not a bad episode and I do like it, it’s just in the shadow of some great episodes that are throughout this season.

Darren Seal

The random aliens of the week kick Worf's ass, even when they are actively trying not to. Great dishonor!

EnigmaticPenguin

I always thought this episode was meh. It feels like it is a traditional star trek episode but it never quite hits Its seems obvious the plot all the way through what is going to happen.

Eric Wilson

This episode is fine. Not bad, not good, decent. Like a nice little palette cleanser before a really good meal. Also that is a very tight white jumpsuit 😳

Connor Fallon

Best part about this episode is that Geordi finally gets some!

Chris Mickelson

Another bad episode. Bottom five in the season for me. Boring plot and a boring guest character. This story about space Jesus just doesn't do it for me. Maybe you guys will be more receptive to it than I am. At least the next episode is a strong one.

Spencer Loften

Handsome guy romances hot doctor then almost literally ghosts. Hey baby, I had a great time but I gotta go ascend to a higher plane of existence. I'll text you when I'm back in this universe.

Matthew Riley

A well performed episode that just never did it for me.

tyranusfan

I liked this a lot, a good Beverley Crusher episode, almost a twist that the energy zap that Geordi received was overall positive and gave him confidence. Christy is the same character that he was on a bad date with earlier in the season.

Paul Rymer

How do we pad out the runtime of this episode? Uh, amnesia? Brilliant!

Evan Guthrie

So close.. To episode 26. I think everyone's been impatiently waiting to see your reactions to that one tbh lol.

Incredible Jon

Trivia: This is the episode before episode 26.
