2025-05-15 23:13:12 +0000 UTCIn some of your early reactions with the Kindergarten, when you mentioned your trypophobia, I immediately thought "Oh Mosco is gonna cringe so bad in "Off Colors" and "Lars' Head"". Glad you got through that, especially because those emotional moments with Lars at then end are really special! I love the Off Colors so much! They are just the perfect example of Homeworld's views on perfection and fitting one's role and subservience: they're either made different or choose to be different, and they're punished most severely for it. All the more reason why we understand the need for the Crystal Gem Rebellion. And of course, I love them individually! Padparadscha is trying her best, girl! Love seeing cool fusions like Rhodonite and Fluorite, and the Rutile "conjoined twins" are such a neat design! I'm pretty sure rutiles tend to split like that in the ground more than other gemstones. And of course, what a road Lars has been on. All he needed was that sweet sweet character development! He's always been self-aware of how afraid and anxious he is, but it really took being in extreme danger for him to acknowledge it out loud. It of course helps that Steven has been such a good friend, and as it turns out, a role model. I'm so grateful these episodes aired back to back, could you imagine having to wait a week or more after that death and resurrection to get an explanation?? I'm still wowed that a show that almost never even shows blood or visible injury literally killed a character on screen. Like, straight up, no cut to black or anything. Sure, there's no gore, only the implication of a mortal wound (it is a badass scar right across his eye, so you can imagine he probably had shrapnel blasted through his face along with a probably broken spine from impact)...and they tiptoe around saying "You died Lars!". But it's still a lot for a Cartoon Network show. Just remember, Lars has made some huge steps in personal growth--and now has to contend with being a magic pink zombie--but he is still Lars and still an insecure teenager. That won't just go away, even if he knows now that he's capable of being heroic. Can't wait for the rest of his arc to play out, it's so much fun! Steven's powers do just crazier and crazier, as does the trajectory of the show. With CN executives being really shitty to Rebecca Sugar and crew, they unfortunately had to rush through some things, but season 5 still remains very solid, fun, thrilling, enthralling, devastating...it's great, even the few "filler-y" episodes we get upcoming (needed for breathing room, and for wrapping up side stories and character development). Can't wait for more!

My understanding is that due to... corporate issues, they had to kind of rush and get the rest of the show done in this season due to short-sighted small-minded corporate thinking. As a result, things may seem a little rushed, especially the last half of the season. Between SU and Owl House, you'd think these networks would have learned that lesson by now, but I'm sure they'll still do stupid things like that again going forward.

I remember a LOT of the hardcore Lars haters were pissed at this episode. They were so happy that Lars died, and then angry that the reveal that Steven's healing powers can revive the dead was "wasted" on him.

I think it was established that Peridot would never be able to get said ship to fly because it was too broken down.
