Steven Universe s3 eps20/21 Bismuth

WHAT ON EARTH!?!?!

Steven Universe s3 eps20/21 Bismuth

Comments

"The Pearl I know NEVER jumps into my arms" is SUCH a line

Mina Beavers

Jasper is a soldier. An elite soldiers but still a soldier. Perals go to officers, not soldier.

Mina Beavers

Centi started reverting back to her corrupted form because her gem is her eye, and her crying literally washed all of the healing magic

King

Bismuth is a metal, but it's pretty enough to be used as a "gemstone".

CedeTheBees

Of course in real life if you kill your oppressor their psyche doesn't continue to exist in a purgatory of broken thoughts and feelings for thousands upon thousands upon thousands of years. So there is an argument to be made that shattering is a fate worse than death

Jachariah

Just saw the latest YouTube release. Knowing the next episode was bismuth I had to join. Could not wait another minute to see this reaction. Please tell me you’ll do a rewatch reaction so when secrets are revealed we get to see you find all the other references that won’t make sense till later.

brendan hunt

"Then you really are better than her..." Gets me every time. What a gut lunch and an emotional wakeup call.

Val Mattingly

@Bruna G Thanks! It was FAB!

Link Chowschne

A double dose of Bismuth! A stellar introduction, the series is so good at giving you an interesting first impression of new characters

Film Vagabond

Bismuth is/was definitely not power hungry, veryyy intense and grounded in her beliefs yes, and Steven is a v gentle character and can't agree with her (and Rose is full of lots of secrets like you said!), but her wanting to shatter their oppressor's for the sake of liberation is a very just goal and mirrors real life liberation struggles. You should def look up a real bismuth cause they're so pretty!! I was so amazed when I saw one for the first time.

Peluche

I think Mosco forgot that Pearl was known as a “Renegade Pearl” (As Garnet called her in the Episode titled ‘The Answer’) so she doesn’t BELONG to Rose as they fight side-by-side after Pearl had abandoned the life already carved out for her as a fancy servant.

Ahri

Bismuth cared about her friends, the crystal gems. But Homeworld has no issue with shattering gems. And all the crystal gems can do is destablize their enemies and bubble them until their base gets raided and all the captured gems are back at the battefield again. Bismuth knows that some homeworld gems could convert to their side, but she values protecting the luves of her current friends than the potental allies. And it would be even better if she could just shatter the diamonds and free all gem-kind. Thats why she made the breaking point and thats why she was so hurt when both steven and rose valued the lives of their enemies more than their allies.

D'jon Thunder

Mods please tell Mosco to forget about the Chest. Also re watch Lapis story Bismuth is part of it

Jeal Tar

God. I love SU. Trope: Oh, this is the episode where they get weapon upgrades! Following episodes: Gems revert their weapons back to normal following the above… “disagreement.”

Ríon

By any chance is it not that Monkey ball game? That is the only game I ever played on the Cube :D

D3m0n

When "we" was younger we sided entirely with steven *because* we was young and naive as children are, not seeing the bigger picture

Phoenix Mackenzie

Tbf to Steven he's a child born after the war who's heard bits and pieces of stories about it, he's naive about the big picture

Phoenix Mackenzie

👀👀

Phoenix Mackenzie

"handling" aka not reading because of actual spoilers...

Phoenix Mackenzie

Bismuth is the only one able to get into the forge and into the secret area of the forge plus it's in lava. Pretty sure we're never gonna see it again.

Hulk Lover

9:45 - Oh man, I recognize that Game Over screen, but I can't for the life of me remember what game it is. My initial thought was Super Mario Bros. 2 or Super Mario Land, but I looked it up and that's not it. 25:39 - "It'll be really funny if she does it a third time." That's a reference to the comedy "Rule of Three". 35:03 - There it is, she said it a third time. And it wasn't funny at all.

ArcticBanana

Bismuth is a really pretty crystal that's technically a metal that grows in really cool spiral patterns! It's safe to google, I checked.

Hulk Lover

Oh. I never thought about that. Oh god, that's a realization...

Hulk Lover

The worst part about Bismuth’s mindset is that gems like peridot who could have changed, would’ve been shattered before they realized they had a choice. Bismuth would’ve shattered peridot, and that’s a frightening concept for me.

Wolfie

I know but I wanted to put a spoiler warning juuuuust in case

Blue Eons

She had to stop reading comments so i think people are using it as more of an episode discussion rather a spoiler free section lol

peachy af

An ongoing rewatch AND written notes?? Mosco's cooking with gas now, fellas. She's gonna learn all of Rose's secrets. This episode never fails to stress me out, but in such a good way. We're in the thick of it now; we really do get down to Bismuth from here on out!

Courtney Boike

Stoooooooooop...

Lilit Booth

Bismuth is an actual stone and does look like that. It's rainbow and pyramid shaped. They are really cool looking!

Vex Valor

Happy big queer birthday 🥳 !

Bruna G

LOUDERR

Blue Eons

Mosco please don’t read this comment cause it’s spoilerish . . . . That’s it guys we’re cooked/j. I always assumed she was gonna crack the code as soon as they mentioned pink diamond, knowing how attentive she is but I was not expecting her to get this close even before they mentioned Pink. I swear she will connect the dots so quick after the season finale 😭

Blue Eons

I mean… this one isn’t that bad. No need to get so worked up, mosco is already handling the spoiler issue on Patreon well enough.

ShadowFox1412

I know, but it is mainly for those still watching it for the first time with Mosco. I am just shocked at all the spoilers. I get why she doesn't read these anymore.

Spadez

Valid reasoning. I get it.

Liam Gradwell

@Matthew 100% disagree. If you can disarm/stop an enemy without loss of life, that’s absolutely the morally correct choice to make. (It helps that puffing + bubbling is a perfect fantasy prison from which the prisoner 1- cannot escape alone, 2- can’t communicate with or influence the outside world at all, 3- cannot be tortured or suffer any of the many physical and psychological damage real prison does- except for the loss of time I guess)

Bruna G

Right 😠

Nokomis Bracken

This reaction is absolutely hilarious for reasons you have no concept of yet. Also look up Bismoth Crystals they are really cool, you can actually make them look the way Bismoth's does in this episode, if you buy a simple cluster of Bismoth sand and then you cook it and let it cool down quickly by putting it into a chiller of some sort, if you don't mind ruining a Pan

Demi

This is one of the episodes she is gonna wanna rewatch down the line when she has more context lol!

Alyssa Hernandez

That's one whole point!

Arianod

And i stand by that!

peachy af

oh my god SHUT UPPPP this is why she doesnt read comments anymore

peachy af

real, thats what I thought lol

olek2501

You are finally into the meat of the series; the conflicting narratives surrounding Rose Quartz.

Connor Howell

no rose quartz soldier would be given a pearl... She is just a quartz

Caitlin

What a great episode to get a Wee Lass reaction to ON MY BIRTHDAY! Big queer birthday episode! (Bismuth is so queer coded!) I love her design.

Link Chowschne

Holy cow there's a key line in here that I never caught before.

Porpoise Power

I don't think you geta point, because bismuth's not a villain. She's just an extremist that rose disagreed with. But deep down she's a good person.

Jergin

Bismuth did nothing wrong! ✊

Arianod

Well, the fight, but not the intensity and what she wants

Jasmine

41:10 i mean,, she didn't do a 180

Jasmine

I disagree that her methods were corrupt. There was some additional context she lacked that caused her plan to be a bad idea, but with the information she (and the viewers) had at this time I don't think her plan was immoral. This is a war, it's not murder to kill the enemy leader in a war

Matthew Outlaw

i guess she gets half a point for twist villain and half a point for "death" lol

peachy af

Bismuth is in fact, a real gem

Florida Sun

wow mosco is so smart, a steven universe rewatch WHILE watching the show has done her a lot of good i love hearing her theories!

peachy af

this is really annoying. this is literally a spoiler

peachy af

Bismuth is more of a complicated character but still well written. Her goals were correct, but her methods were way extreme. That’s what war can do. Even if your side is “right”, it can compel someone, even the best ones, to do the wrong thing in order to win. So tragic. 💜

Liam Gradwell

agreed! this same argument is used against jet in atla and i never was a fan of it. it's not that i think steven is wrong, but since we see the show thru his eyes we're inclined to agree with him. he cant see it more nuanced since he is both a child and born after the war

peachy af

Not so much power hungry as hurt and frustrated.

dz1jgmeyer

(6:13 aaand she forgot AAA the Return), plus the Hessonite... aaa

Jasmine

5:18 ah we're getting to the meaty theories (also yeah I agree with Connie about bismuth )

Jasmine

Levels - thatd mean Jasper and Amethyst are the same level

Jasmine

(Oo wonder if the theories will include that detail in space race) P sure centipeetle was crying ; I figured it was just any recognized gem that could open the door. (Jasper...). I got the opposite impression that hundreds wasn't a very high number

Jasmine

I’ve never liked the narrative that using extreme means to end constant oppression and death makes you “just as bad” as the oppressor. Of course I’d draw the line at certain methods due to my own morality, but the sentiment feels like another way for oppressors to keep their victims in line. Bismuth should have listened to Rose because Rose was her leader in the rebellion, but, I can’t fault Bismuth for not wanting to see her friends die anymore.

jellybrigade

WOOOOOOOOOO

Jasmine

do not confirm or deny mosco's theories, that can be a much bigger hint than you think it is

potato potato also another potato

ur fine to use spoilers, mosco doesnt read comments on patreon anymore

helluva.alixx

that is spoiling lol, doesnt matter anyways bc she doesnt look at patreon comments anymore bc of comments like these

helluva.alixx

I’m surprised you’ve never heard of bismuth crystals they are so cool

Connie Clemons

tbf Jasper doesn't really see like the the type to want a pearl, she's more of a the strong handle things themselves type of gem, and i assume you have to actively request a pearl but idrk

Warren

“Maybe there is a hierarchy of Quartz.” I mean… there’s no ORANGE Diamond.

Tasia Cooper

Damn, Mosco called the Bismuth/Business connection immediately lmao

Alp

without spoiling anything, yes to the Pearls

tom david johansen

I guess she was like. 60% right about both her being a twist villain AND death fodder LOL

ServerGlitch

"Rose has got SO many secrets that she's kept from SO many people! How may more has she got?" Ah...

morthasa

I've been waiting to get down to Bismuth!

Jeremelric

Bismuth's gem is actually a pretty good representation of one. And Mosco will be pleased to know the rainbow colors are often a more muted, pastel on some of them.

David Johnson

She doesn't read these anymore(because of spoilers) but the "it becomes important" would be, it's direct telling her something for the future

Phoenix Mackenzie

Lion is a cat, after all. So his motivations are forever going to be a mystery...;) I can comfortably confirm you're asking all the right questions...and a lot of the wrong ones. And I'm also going to *not* tell you which is which...

David Johnson

Ah yes, Bismuth....

Dinker

Not that metal crystals are that unusual. Tin crystal is neat!

Sanmei

Bismuth looks pretty wild as an actual crystal, too. It looks like square shaped downward spiraling staircase with covered in rainbow colors. Also, it's a key ingredient in Pepto Bismol.

Dan_Gaming_Fan

I think the exception is because it's a crystalline metal. It has the same sort of ordered atomic structure as gems.

AbsurdToastling

I don't want to put any spoilers, but Garnet and Pearl are the only current crystal gems for a reason. Because Bismuth was bubbled while there was a lot of crystal gems left then she didn't see what caused the rebellion to be brought down to 3. She thought she was onto something and Rose had the same opinion as Steven since Bismuth says "That exactly what she said". Tried to put no spoilers but give you my opinion as to what we know in this episode...well 2 episodes.

Spadez

I think you'd enjoy Bismuth as an actual crystal. It's very geometric and rainbow colored. Also,a key ingredient in some heartburn meds. It's the Bismo in the Pepto

Martin E Melcher

I love bismuth but idk how she thought she would be able to shatter the diamonds

Pumpkin

We’re so back in Bismuth

Ashley Minor

Definitely keep in mind that bit on Rose’s sword. It becomes important. I really hope this isn’t a spoiler. What counts as a spoiler?

jessie H

Bismuth is one of my favs. When I was little I was entirely on Steven’s side, but now that I’m older I can really see where she’s coming from and understand her. The home world gems shatter them, she wanted to even the playing field for their cause.

Riley

Oh yeah I remember peri explaining that now that you say that. I knew who they were handed out to, just blanking on when we learn that. Thank you!

PinkPonytail _Girl

Bismuth is a real gem it’s really cool looking in real life

Pumpkin

Peri gives the most exact definition when they were on the barn. Any aristocratic or highly regarded gem on homework could be given a pearl. By rank or reward. They're attendants/ladies in waiting/servants/eye candy.

Simone Lott

Me on the sidewalk in nyc with a giant banner that says "They'll never make me hate you bismuth!!"

Simone Lott

Not sure if you look it up later in the episode, but bismuth is actually a metal rather than a gemstone Interestingly, she’s the only metal Gem we ever see, but this is never relevant to anything

Mopish

Bismuth IS a real gem btw

Lisunavailable

I genuinely do not remember: Do they ever address who gets a pearl? Or was it just a few lines that lead to interpretation of that explanation?

PinkPonytail _Girl

to answer your question at the start no pearls aren't abundant and a common quartz soldier like jasper no matter how strong isn't high enough in the gem hierarchy to have a pearl pearls aren't common assistants they're only given to higher gems as servants. jasper already had an assistant, peridot. also pearl is a rogue pearl, she wasnt given to rose quartz she had joined her out of her own volition

Emi

Haven't hit play yet, but SOOOOoooo happy to see you watching these episodes! I hope you are feeling better!

Spadez

Enough fun and games. It’s time for some serious Bismuth!

A Magic Duck

I am also watching this on lunch lol. Makes for a great show to go with food.

Melody

This is such a good (double) episode. But also a heavy one.

morthasa

Im absolutely loving the conspiracies you have with the notes you are taking. Takes me back to the fandom discussing all the same things when this was first airing.

Kyle Murrell

I'm fixin to watch this on my lunch break. Dress nice and act professionally because IT'S A BISMUTH LUNCH

Craig Rangoon

Oh no she is going to this already emotional from its over isn't..... 😂😂😂😅

PinkPonytail _Girl

100th episode woo

Kayla Ryan

I WAS REFRESHING ALL MORNING

peachy af

I CANT FUCKING WAIT TO WATCH THIS LATER!!!!!

peachy af

WOOO FINALLY BISMUTH! Also I hope you are feeling better from the food poisoning!

PinkPonytail _Girl

OMG ITS TIME

Evergrove

*Ahem* OH MY GOD GUYS IT’S FINALLY HERE

LionessKay

Hell yeah! Time to get down to Bismuth!
