UNCUT REACTION - Game of Thrones S1E1 - Winter is Coming

Comments

Game of Thrones hits a sweet spot for me because it's debut was after I started playing Skyrim & was already a big fan of the Lord of the Rings at the time.

Billy T. Riker

Wow so much in the first episode it has been a while since I saw it

AzoriusMage

Yea, it's very well adapted from the books and is the reason why I read the books. I also dont think he will finish due to all the money he is making at cons and other places hes invited to, he himself said he's working less due to this.

P S

I'll also say this: It's something I've noticed over the years and I'm not entirely sure why it tends to happen this way, but over the many many reactions I've seen to this show, the people who don't read their comments and therefore don't constantly read how "bad" a season or episode is from the very beginning tend to either like or love the last season far more often. But I know how Josh is and other people saying they love or hate something doesn't really seem to infiltrate his opinion much. So I'm pretty sure regardless of what others say, at least I'll believe his opinion, whether good or bad, is entirely his own and not really influenced by others. So I'm excited. :)

Lady Beyond The Wall

YAY! My username is Game of Thrones related. ❤️ I read the books right before the show came out and I loved every single season of the show, including the ending. I have a lot of reasons why that I can't really talk about yet, but I hope I get to with you guys one day!

Lady Beyond The Wall

Hey I loved the finale too! I don't want to get into why, obviously, in case of spoilers.. but.. I have A LOT of things to say about it and about why a lot of people threw hissyfits over it.

Lady Beyond The Wall

Well, I also liked the "Lost" finale, so maybe it's just me. At least that's what my therapist says.

Jeff

That’s awesome! First I’ve heard someone not hating the end hahaha I’m excited

Josh (Target Audience)

Years ago I tried reading the first book and couldn't stick with it. Then I started the series and enjoyed it for about the first two seasons, but got a bit tired of bearded men yelling and torturing and killing, so I gave up. I then returned for the last two seasons and, unlike everyone else on the planet, LOVED the final season and the ending. So now I'm eager to watch along with Josh and see how it holds up. This time I feel more focused on the direction, art direction, costuming, and score, because they're all exceptional.

Jeff

Good on you for watching this. I'm sure you'll enjoy it for the most part. Not my cup of tea but that's only because for me, the books are so much better with the finer details. I watched all of the show, but just didn't jive for me.

Dru Blood

OK. I have tried to watch this several times, I have not finished it, due to a lack of audio description. Recently I noticed that MAX had included A,.D. and I have wanted to watch it but it felt like it’s time had passed . Today however, I am looking forward to getting engaged with this I intentionally avoided learning about this show because I was interested in it. This time I think I am the target of the is audience.

Thicketdweller

Have you watched Lost?

Sam Langanke

It was probably written that way to hook and lure an audience in, because sex and nudity sell, but that aspect of it declines as the show goes on. FYI.

Jovet

So annoying - UK streaming of GOT is faster so I can't sync up properly

Christopher Yates

The show is so good early on. Makes it that much more depressing when it falls off a cliff in the later seasons. I think this is the only show i've seen where the last few seasons are so bad that they actually made the good ones less enjoyable to rewatch.

Spencer Loften

The gratuity of the sex in the first episode almost turned me off completely. I'm glad I stuck with it but fuck HBO, why you gotta be like this?

#MaxwellDidNothingWrong

I was referring to TNG with that last comment. ;)

Ken R

The time code counting down on max is an issue but I just synced on a line I knew you would react to and at the next sync point I was right on target.

Jonathan

sweet

Timothy Nikiforovs

You’re both awesome.

PIG

I love both BSG and Game of Thrones. Now I have to watch two full reactions a week by you guys. Dammit. 😂

Michael Ducharme

LOL :)

Lovok

Yup. I just really, really, really, really, really, really, hope that GRR Martin doesn't alter what he intended to write in the books (that he'll probably never finish) because of the reaction to the end of the TV series. Despite the final season or two of GoT being, err, *disappointing* ... the show before that is still excellent, and one of the best-made television shows ever done. It's a tribute to its excellent source material (which is, of course, still far better!!).

Jovet

@Lovok “Hello, cruel, cruel world.”

Jovet

He obviously tolerates it, why ask a dumb question with an obvious answer> Or were you trying to prove a point how both correlate and you should dislike both automatically.

P S

It's good until they ran out of Martin's material, then you get a lot more plain lazy and dumb network type writing

P S

Just finished watching it. It's been a long time since I last watched, and I'm glad you liked it so far. I didn't feel like locating my Blu-rays so I streamed it on Max, and there were no problems with the sync. This series might be even more difficult to keep from accidental spoilers than Trek is.

KatWithAttitude

To be fair, D&D's Game of Thrones starts pretty hard with the DM enforcing natural 1s. It's controversial now because suddenly God started giving everyone re-rolls and fast travel.

Juan Tutrífor

Lit.

Juan Tutrífor

There will be YouTube edits

Josh (Target Audience)

If you do YT edits I may watch those, but I'm not paying another $22 a month to get access to GoT.

Timothy Nikiforovs

I heard, I think on the DVD? 📀 that it wasn’t clear to the audience that Jamie was her brother so they had to shoot new scenes probably the one where he walks up and says “I’m your brother.” And the scene with Tyrion in the whore house.

Philbot

Well I haven’t seen the show yet so idk!!

Josh (Target Audience)

Yes

Josh (Target Audience)

As my calling out the "torture porn" in GOT implies: no. The only context in which I will watch "extreme" violence is historical and/or religious; accurately depicting what really happened in history. Even then, I own a very slim selection of these kind of films.

Lovok

Very cool! Been a fan of A Song Of Ice and Fire since I picked up the books A Game of Thrones (in soft cover) and A Clash of Kings (just out in hard cover) back in 1998. Read them both and thought this series was really something special but never, ever, could have imagined the phenomenon it became!

Drawkcabi

I'd say 85-90% of the show is incredible overall, so it's totally worth it. :)

PIG

Amazing pilot episode. Respects its audience. Treats us as if we might possibly be intelligent 🤷🏼‍♂️

Benjamin Azure

It's hard to hear you guys. In later GoT reactions, do you think you can increase your volume a bit? Thanks! I'm really enjoying this reaction so far. Nice to return to GoT.

PIG

But you are OK with extreme violence?

MrDeadstu

i like good shows and you wont find feel good, Very Special episodes where you can practically hear the canned audience machine "awww" after stuff. I'm honestly surprised you don't see where I'm coming from.

Ken R

I hope you’re right but we’ve gotten this same comment about every show we’ve ever watched 💀

Josh (Target Audience)

^This!

Jovet

I did not expect a Ken R endorsement!

Josh (Target Audience)

It took me way too long to realize you weren’t talking about Dungeons & Dragons

Josh (Target Audience)

I hope so!

Josh (Target Audience)

@Target Audience That's very reasonable!

Jovet

Josh, I am so happy for you to start this. But at the same time, this show will bring ALL the feelings and can be traumatic af at least once a season.

Steve Krautkramer

@SageGreenGoat Maybe you should read the books.

Jovet

1:05:45 But the CONSEQUENCES of the queen and her brother porking! ....??? (Edit: Think about those...)

Jovet

1:01:55 LOL! The look on Josh's face.

Jovet

This brings back some memories... My first introduction to Song of Fire and Ice was in a bookshop. This was way before the TV series, and a new part of the saga was just released. I've overheard two nerdy guys talking about it: "Is it any good?" "Dude, this is the best book series right now, the only problem is the author is lazy and it will never get finished." "I guess money from the previous one must have ran out, he he he". Despite being kind of a fantasy fan, I crossed it out from my reading list. Fast forward to 2011, the first episode aired and I was immediately hooked. I've decided to read it before watching, devoured the first book and was blown away by how insanely good it was. The TV series was heavily advertised, but a lot of people dismissed it because it was fantasy, so I started recommending it to everyone. Only couple of first episodes aired when I was at some party and ended up talking to a guy I've never met before. Me: "Have you seen GoT yet? It's really good." He laughed hard: "Man, I've interviewed George RR Martin." I didn't believe him at first, but he turned out to be working for a fantasy magazine and he actually did get to meet GRRM and do a short interview with him before he got really famous. Me: "Is it true that he's lazy?" Him: "Yeah, he's a fantastic guy, but he takes really long breaks between books. If the book series ever gets finished, this is going to be the best TV show in history." Me: "I've only read the first book, is the rest as good? I really don't know how you can top the plot twists." Him: "Oh, sweet summer child, you have no idea what's coming..."

snthd

Really glad to see reactions to this show! Josh, you're in for a treat (mostly)!

Jeremy S

I'd be shocked if you can watch one season and stop. I have full confidence you'll be way too bought in by the end to give it up!

Jeremy S

I'm going to defend D&D for a moment. Yes, the quality of the show took a nosedive when it moved past the books but that's George RR Martin's fault. D&D's job was not to write original material, it was to adapt novels and while they had novels to adapt they did a pretty great job, people focus so much and the not so great ending of the show that they seem to forget that D&D were also responsible for the awesome first half of the show that everybody loved. GRRM continuously assured them and HBO that he would deliver the final books in time, he didn't. That's on him and no one else and I will keep calling him it out for that. The show ended in 2019 and he still hasn't released a new book. The last one was released on July 2011, a month after the first season of the show finished airing, that was 13 years ago! I'm not going to blame D&D for not writing a great ending when GRRM himself has been struggling doing exactly that for over a decade.

Phillip Grischa

It gets good in season 3.

Ken R

Oooooo interesting.... TBH I didn't make it past Season 2, due to life, and lack of HBO. And then by the time I could afford it again, I could see from the opinions on social media that wasn't quite the same. My only critique at that point I stopped was there were too many storylines and character arcs to track throughout the series. However, the battle scenes and dragons were just amazing, and some of the filmmaking choices were incredible.

Firekrys FWO

Best written premiere ever, and Jamie is the MVP because that last moment makes you want to watch the next episode. Without that scene I don't know if the show would have shocked people. At one time I would have called this the best show of all time, but they ruined it at the end. I'm tempted to do the rewatch but not sure I want the eventual punishment that comes.

Ken R

14:35 Awwwwwwww, pussycat!

Jovet

0:36 Alex has a girlfriend now? 🤦

Jovet

It's sooooo good, so well done. 😀

Jovet

Bilnd Josh is a happy Josh. 😀

Jovet

There definitely have been plenty of shows, portions of which (larger or smaller) have been called "...the best thing on television," at the time. Battlestar Galactica had that at a certain point, Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, even certain Star Trek series, and lots more. GoT DEFINITELY had this distinction SEVERAL times through its run. That's all I'll say.

MertzRocks

No worries! We don’t expect everyone to watch everything!

Josh (Target Audience)

Oof, do not like this series. Definitely has some quality film-making and characters in the early seasons, but the final seasons throw all that build-up into the trash can. Always loathed all the unnecessary trashy content in it too (I would try to fast-forward through most of it). Not only do you get lots of gratuitous actual porn, but you get some bonus torture porn and incest too! I will not be following along on this one guys, but hope you enjoy the good elements mixed in there.

Lovok

Yes, you do. 👑

KatWithAttitude

Kat, you know we enjoy bothering those people!

Josh (Target Audience)

Only committed to season 1 for now; we’ll see how it goes

Josh (Target Audience)

Can't wait to see Josh's face when it's over....

MrDeadstu

I'll try to get to it later today. I do have the complete Blu-ray set, plus I have Max. Just don't let all the people who like to rip the series for...certain things get to you too much. Some people can't stand for anyone else to have an opinion different than their own and don't want to let other people form their own opinions because THEIR opinions are the only correct ones. You've certainly had that experience with some Trek episodes. But if you think some Trek and Star Wars fans get rather toxic, that's nothing compared to how some GoT watchers get.

KatWithAttitude

Ask for an advance

Josh (Target Audience)

We watched a physical copy to record and used the streaming version for the blurred image here and they synced perfectly so I’m not sure what would cause issues. As far as having to resync, there’s a timecode, occasional snippets, and a blurred image the entire time.

Josh (Target Audience)

WHAT??! Alright ya basteds.. I'm in

James Bottas

I've been meaning to watch this since its release, with someone even buying me the DVD Boxsets, but haven't found the will/ gotten round to it. I know there's at least one Trek actor in it, credited in 1993 as Siddig Al Fadir which he later changed to Alexander Siddig.

James Knight

Guys I'm really hyped for this reaction series BUT it's gonna be 100 times harder to watch along if you do not put any of the original footage in there. I can watch along star trek through netflix np but game of thrones is another matter. All the other reactioners I watch have the original footage in the reaction video or they find a way to include it somehow. Some put a mirror right next to them that reflects the TV screen to the camera which is ingenious because it bypasses youtube rules I think. But this isn't even youtube this is patreon uncut so I don' tknow if you'd ever get in trouble for including the series in the reactions. Even while watching star trek; if I can perfectly synchronize your reactions to the second, somehow one of the sides get unsynchronized by a few seconds in 10 minutes so I have to constantly readjust it.

valen

What a nice surprise! I was SOOO hoping neither of you had seen it... NO SPOILERS! (well obvi...) And don't let our opinions sway you even a LITTLE!

MertzRocks

Star Trek, BSG, and now GOT? You guys are killing it!

Cameron Thacker

Wow! Didn't see this coming!

MarkF

Neat!

PIG

OHHHHH MYYYYYY !!!!!!

mike

Also, gonna watch it now. Thank you for being awesome.

SageGreenGoat

Exactly. The whole jokes about Dark Trek later and so on, no, nothing even approaching this show. We got through four seasons and then we stopped.

SageGreenGoat

Damn, gonna have to wait till payday to grab the physicals of this😅

SinocTheHodgeheg

Luckily, you can continue enjoying the other stuff and not watch this one

Josh (Target Audience)

Excellent show, highly engaging

Cooper Vision

UNCUT REACTION TIME!! oh it’s got.

Phil Ken Sebben

Yikes, for whatever I'm worth, please no. GoT makes the word "bleak" look like a funtime carousel. I really don't like this show.

SageGreenGoat

Nice! It's a good series! Can't wait to dive in

Captain Proton

Ok, I’ll watch GOT again!

Christopher Yates

Holy shit I've been looking for an excuse to finally watch past first couple eps. Gonna see tonight :D

llama

Great idea guys
