If I could make any suggestions guys, I would want you not to watch the opening teaser. Particularly through season 1, the teaser is very long and just outright gives away some surprises you're about to watch. Once it settles into its rhythm, you look away when Grace Park's name appears. A friend who was a huge fan told me to do this when I watched for the first time, and I was gpad I did. Sometimes I would go back and watch it after the episode. Also worth checking out the after credits scene, last about 4 seconds ;)

I personally think she's a fantastic actress, close to the esteem you guys hold for Gates McFadden. Mary McDonnell had a big role in the 90's movie "Independence Day", and she plays the same sort of character here as in that film.

2024-05-27 20:44:32 +0000 UTCI read an article ages ago about an F-16 pilot who was scrambled on 9/11 (I know, please bare with me) to shoot down the plane that eventually hit the Pentagon after they realized what was happening. He obvious didn't reach it on time. I'm not sure if it is, but I wouldn't be suprised if that was an inspiration for the moral dilema of the episode. I have heard over the years that the network made them take out passengers from the windows as they felt it was too bleak and wanted it to be ambiguous if Lee and Kara did kill 1300 people.

2024-05-27 20:43:28 +0000 UTCIf you can, get the DVDs, it has all the extended episodes, almost all the the webisodes and they include Ronald D Moore's watchalong podcast released shortly after the episodes aired as commentary tracks and they are up there in my list of commentaries because the man is very frank about how he felt about stuff and what his story intentions were and his process. He clearly loved making this show.

BSG saddles that line between old network TV, and what we would call "modern" TV. There's another one later this season that is also very good in that way. Unfortunately, my memory of the show is mostly blurred misery. I mean, in universe.
