There’s plenty of “canon” in Star Trek and Star Wars and all sorts of universes that keep getting expanded by whatever corporation controls them. What do I care about their worst choices? Fictional universes—just like reality—are what YOU make of them :) So make them the best version for you 🤷🏼♂️

It was nice to hear Troi talking about her father's death, but I feel like the "The last thing we did before she died was argue" bit is kind of done a lot in TV and movies. Maybe a little overdone. He doesn't need an extra reason to be upset that his mother died.

2024-05-23 13:26:23 +0000 UTCSeasons 4-7 Blu-rays included high quality film scans of deleted scenes. I edited several into extended episodes, adding foley effects, ship hum, fixing the framing and color timing. Some episodes really pop with the added scenes.

2024-05-23 01:07:47 +0000 UTCI find it fascinating that there is so much extra material, given how tight Ronald D Moore's scripts get later on in the franchise. Maybe he was too green to understand how it would play out on set vs how he thought It would on the page. It's also so crazy how early on he got the characters and immediately knew how to effectively use them. Shame about the Troi scene and the part about the terminal being fixed lines, they really would have added something (not that it necessarily needs it, it's a great episode).

2024-05-22 21:16:29 +0000 UTCThese days, a lot of series can get away with running a minute or two long, but boy, they really needed to cut it down for the network. It's a shame, because I think the series doesn't do enough to show Counselor Troi actually doing her job, and.. I regret that scene wasn't in there. The show-runners just defaulted a little too often to "need to cut out some scenes from an episode? Let's get rid of some Troi stuff." Even though the scenes that were included were a little more "important" to the episode itself, keeping the cut scene here would have been better for the Troi character in the long run.

It was possible since Worf was a side thing and you could have told this story w/o the bonding thing, but it would have been a choice requiring even more material with the kid. Or, they just needed fewer commercials.
