YOUTUBE VIDEO: Ronald Moore Changed Star Trek

Comments

"bad" as in spoiling the story in the episodes. I prefer to go in knowing nothing.

I love your reaction and agree with most of your thoughts. I think the reason the IMDB score was relatively low is that many people want ST:TNG to be all action and fast pacing, which this really isn’t. This is a deep character exploration, which I think makes it very important for the series going forward.

ChemicalCrash

Great analysis of this episode. You've said it all imo and I agree about Gates and her ability to convey such a level of emotion that brings the audience to tears. Well done my dudes, see you next episode 🖖

Dru Blood

You mentioned RoboCop in the Red October video you may recognize some faces if you watch RoboCop2.

Ron Moore definitely came in and wrote great episodes, bringing more character-oriented stories. But Michael Piller really deserves the initial credit as producer who got a solid focused writing staff together and basically became show runner. Also, Brannon Braga came in as well, teaming with Moore to become the top writers. These 3 really got the show on track, and thats why season 3 was their break-out season. Not perfect, but a hell of a batting average!

The energy aliens felt responsible for her death. The mines were left active because being made of energy they couldn’t be hurt by them so didn’t realize they were still dangerous. When she was killed the realized their mistake and tried to fix things they first made all the mines inert and Geordie makes note that they found a bunch of then inactive and in a pile. The next step was trying to make it up to her son. It wasn’t until the crew was able to demonstrate the boy already had a support network and was going to be fine that the alien left.

Disagree with your perceptions of the alien plot line. I thought it added a lot to the grief aspect precisely because it did not have evil intent. It wanted to comfort the boy’s grief. It had good intentions, but not being human, it didn’t know that grief is an integral part of our humanity. Once the crew explained that to the alien, it understood. BTW, great reaction to a great episode! One of my favourite reactions of yours to date.

Tied with Obsession and Changeling, though Obsession had 1 more off screen. Also Where No Man Has Gone Before had something like 13 deaths(most offscreen when they crossed the barrier), thought nobody was wearing a red shirt in that episode.

Timothy Nikiforovs

"Ah, shit, there's more shit to deal with." Imagine how O'Brien feels. He's hourly.

Juan Tutrífor

They are not teasers, they are out takes.

Hunter

You said bad. I say amazing. Watching TNG with these promos was half the experience.

Steven Johnson

Just don't klick on the links with the episode tiles if you don't recognize the episode titles!😄

Hunter

Wow! Mind blown.

Jovet

I didn't even know these episode teasers existed. Thank God I never saw them, they are so bad lmao.

LMPGames

Great discussion! You mentioned the TOS episode "The Apple" which has the most Red Shirt deaths in TOS.

There is extra footage cut from the broadcast version called a "Workprint" that has about six minutes of what was edited out. Here is the link describing what's on it and an embedded video of it: https://blog.trekcore.com/2013/05/exclusive-almost-six-minutes-of-newly-recovered-footage-from-tng-s3s-the-bonding/
