An excellent episode and equally excellent reaction, guys! I ranked this #9 for the season (3) and #39 for the whole series. I love the mystery and how Picard figured MOST of it out. He thought he had it ALL figured out but then came that amazing ending. When Picard asks for "the truth - this time ALL of it," he expected a confession, and got one, but he had no idea about the key details of the Husnack and what Kevin did to them in an explosion of grief. You could see the blood drain from Dr. Crusher's face when the final reveal came. It's a wonder I didn't rank it higher, but believe it or not there are 8 episodes this season that are even better, and you have not yet seen any of them.

Intelligent Donkey

One of my Top 10.

When we get to it in release order

When are you too watching star Trek 6?

I always liked this one. The guest stars are really good in their performances. I like the regretful god who betrayed his most cherished beliefs in a moment of utter grief and spends the rest of his existence regretting what he did.

Lee Trayler

This one has grown for me over the years. Also, two very strong character actors as guest stars, which we don’t always get with TNG. (TOS had great guest stars!)

Daniel Arthur

This is one like I think I like more than either Alex or Josh. And if you put this in season one or two I think it's easily top ten in either season and maybe even sneaks into top five. But in season three? I'd say there are almost definitely fifteen better episodes coming up.

Greg Quinn

Disagree, but fair

In this situation, I'd say the fact that they alone survived was so conspicuously bizarre that any story that doesn't explain their survival is automatically suspicious and needs further investigation.

On a first watch it seemed they had figured it out. Picard didn’t buy the story, and ultimately was proven right. What if he was wrong, and Kevin’s story was true? He would’ve endangered the lives of everyone on board and put Troi through torturous pain based on an incorrect hunch. Would getting the exact motivation for why they left Kevin alive even been possible or worth it if it was? Luckily for Picard, his hunch was correct.

Acknowledgement? Bro is NOT Roman Reigns! Good episode though

I think your reaction lacked an acknowledgment of the being’s great conscience. There’s much to consider with that great conscience. It changes everything, IMO. It’s not another all powerful, evil alien. A very good episode with a fantastic ending. A powerful being with a great conscience = powerful emotion.

11,000 beings were killed on Rana 4. No way Picard leaves until he finds out what took place.

I'm really looking forward to some of the ...err, lighter episodes.

This exactly explains the ones I like too -- they are TNG in a perfect little capsule and you don't need much background to jump in and enjoy them.

With TNG you can make several types of top 10 lists. Of course you're going to have the top 10 list of the objectively best ones that pretty much the whole community agrees on. But everyone also has their own top 10 personal favorites list, or top 10 episodes they like to rewatch the most on reruns, or top 10 episodes that just tend to stick out in their mind, or be really enjoyable. For me, this is one of those episodes, along with Loud as a Whisper, Arsenal of Freedom, and Who Watches the Watchers from the one's that you've seen. I like the one-off ones that feel a little bit different from the rest of the show, but are also still lighthearted enough to be easily digestible on multiple re-watches. Episodes like Measure of a Man for instance, typically make it on many people's top 10 best of the show list, but episodes like that are heavy by comparison. If it's on a rerun, I feel like I have to be in the proper mood to give it my full attention and do it justice. Episodes like this however, I can just dive in and enjoy.

Another good one that I always enjoy. Looking forward to your discussion. 🖖

My favorite line good tea nice house lol.

Can’t wait for your analysis of this episode! 😊

ChemicalCrash

Picard couldn’t just leave them. Even if they weren’t concerned with their own safety there was something out there that destroyed a Federation colony and so could potentially threaten other colonies. Without answers to his questions of who did it and why he couldn’t just fly away.

Kurt Linke

I've been waiting for this reaction for a fair bit now! A definite favorite of mine, that episode is. I liked some of season 1 and 2 and S3E2, but for me this one is where the good stuff really kicks in. That last scene is wonderfully acted, and the whole concept of if your intrusive thoughts had the power to do a genocide... Really brilliant stuf.
