Tier Ranking EVERY EPISODE of Star Trek TNG Season 2

Comments

Same

Martin Wiggan

"A Matter of Honor" was the one second season non-Q and non-Holodeck episode that I remember really liking, and even it is overrated. I also liked "The Royale" as it felt like an old 1960s star Trek episode or like a different variation of a Holodeck episode. "Q Who" might be one of my least favorite Q episodes as I never liked the Borg except in using the word as a metaphor for computers and robots taking over humans. "Elementary, Dear Data" was fun. Lwaxana Troi is actually a pretty good character as long as they do not make her too human. Dr. Selar would have made a great secondary character, but she only had one appearance this season. Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes always blur together for me whereas episodes of the original series are always more distinctive -- more memorable and colorful costumes, settings, and concepts and more exciting although sometimes too weird.

Absolutely no inclination to do so. Plus, they're all post-TNG transmission so the lads can't read them anyway.

I enjoyed watching this ....again?.. .. I do not remember that night much as scotch got me BUT I remember having fun.

When I was younger I always liked Up the Long Ladder. Now I'm realizing it was probably my young brain going "ooooh, attractive Irish lady"........lol

The biggest slogs for me are Loud as a Whisper, The Schizoid Man, The Dauphin. The plots just move way too slowly.

JGoss

At least you own that you massively underrated Contagion ;)

I really wanted to like Loud as a Whisper more than I do. I think it has a strong second half, but it just takes too long to get to the point.

Any list that puts Contagion that far down is total L! No, just kidding... I really did like Contagion (as an IT guy I can totally buy that plot.. I've seen it all) and Pen Pals, but overall that's a fair list. We'll always quibble a little here and there.

Axanar and Trek Continues are for fans who are decades past seeing any new Trek and just want to see the old sets again. The stories and acting "talent" of the amateur actors is quite remarkable given their limited budgets but also something you accept just to see it all again.

Alan Thompson

That’s all fair

Pretty close. But Ep 2 "Where Silence Has Lease" should be A or B tier. You guys really liked the creepy vibe of it, and I think you're forgetting Picard's brinksmanship (he was ready to self-destruct the ship because he didn't believe they'd been freed yet), as well as his musings on the afterlife. I'd also have switched "Peak Performance" to S and "The Emissary" to A, but that's just me.

Dan Halstead

Measure of a man is top tier for me for many reasons .

Shatner's novels, of course, are a special category of their own. No one should ever read those.

Was a fun watch. Eagerly awaiting season 3 and it's delightful surprises 😉

First of all, I like the concept of a tier list for the season more than a Top5/Flop5. Overall, I agree with your rating, with a few minor exceptions. For example, I would have rated "contagnion" c and "time quared" b. I think you'll rate season 3 about 30% better than season 2 and season 4 20% better than season 3, but we'll see. Overall it was a lot of fun to see how you guys rated the whole season! I'm really really really hyped to see how you continue with season 3! :)

I think 'Measure Of A Man' would have worked better in a later season. That story required Data's background (i.e. exactly how and why did he join Starfleet) to be established. As it stands, the script fudges the logic of Data's situation. I have to rate it as 4 star, not 5 star. Otherwise, I wouldn't argue with any of your episode rankings......Dear Lord! I forgot about 'The Royale'......which was an endurance test.

Numinous2019

That was quick. Thank you. :)

Should be fixed now

Any Trek novels published concurrent with where you are on your watch through are perfectly fine. Since the novels were only privy to what had been established on screen. But never read any novel published after the episodes aired. I've been re-reading some old TNG novels and it's interesting to see the early takes on the characters that rarely match what was later developed on TV.
