First Time Watching ALL of Star Trek - Episode 156: Shades of Gray (TNG S2E22)

Comments

The first Season 3 episode drops tomorrow.

Anthony Goodwin

When are ya'll starting season 3?

Tj

That end credits song is amazing!

Matthew Jimenez

I know TOS created the "Menagerie" as a way to meet production deadlines and episode requirements and that may be with this episode but the decision to make this the season final seems crazy.. They could have plugged this in for like episode 20 and gone with a better final

John Carpenter

That's not entirely true, or at least not of TNG. TNG was first-run syndication, meaning individual stations could and did air reruns whenenver they wanted. And the clip show was more often used because contracts stipulated a certain number of episodes be delivered but, for whatever reason, production was unable to deliver that number of all-new episodes. It may have helped new viewers get caught up, but its purpose was just using whatever was available to fill the production schedule.

AI music is epic, love it.

Before streaming TV shows had a problem.. How do get new viewers caught up with events since reruns wont aire until series until the show ends and goes into syndication. Hence what they called "recap" episodes. This practice was common in TV shows from 70's to 90's.. Now why they choose to makes season 2 end one makes now sense

John Carpenter

that credits sequence was amazing!

Diggin the outro music!

1) Only the one shot where Riker stands out on the ledge and is on a bad green screen is what we think is bad. The set is fine. 2) We unironically love this scene. It’s hilarious. 3) We are most likely to watch things like that during a live stream. I would suggest coming to one of those when we do them.

One or two things that I don't understand about your repeat reactions to a few things: 1) You say that you think that the The Last Outpost foggy mountainous Ferengi meeting planet was the worse set ever. It looked much more interesting than just about any other planet they visited. Does it look really bad on a big screen TV or something? 2) You also didn't like the scene where Riker gets kicked or beat up by the old admiral. Some of the 1960s stunt camera work seemed 100 times worse to me. At least they tried to do a few stunts here. P.S. I have seen several very humorous Star Trek moments on youtube. These do not have spoilers, but they are amusing. A lot of them are old commercials which are only about 30 seconds long. Is there a place where we could make suggestions to watch various very short non-spoiler clips like this?

Ah, the bane of all 80's and 90's independent sci-fi shows - THE CLIP SHOW EPISODE! LOL! Well, you guys have made it over the first two seasons hump, and now it's hang on, 'cause the ride gets great from here!

Paul O'Neal

If you think back to season 1, with its humanity that has outgrown its flaws.....season 2 seemed to show the writers introducing plenty of flaws in the various crew members and human guest stars. From Pulaski's prejudices with Data (initially) to Picard having his complacency thrown in his face by Q, the bridge crew floundering about dealing with the Pakleds, Picard's ego being wounded by his duplicate, Riker's far from functional father, etc. The only unchanging and dependable humans during season 2 were Alex & Josh.

Numinous2019

great job on the background, if you put that together, btw

James Bottas

There wasn't really any substance in Shades of Gray to pay attention to... but if the guys stay undistracted and if you essentially can't tell it's live in the YT edit, just like this one... than yeah more consequential episodes could work.. just my thoughts. Distraction remains The biggest concern tho

James Bottas

See and I really hope they don’t. I’d rather they stream a random movie or a random episode that’s not that impactful/big vs being distracted by chat and being live during big episodes or finales. This was fun because it’s such a nothing burger of an episode. But that’s just my opinion.

Todd Pritchett

It's like the propeller plane sounds in "Airplane" and the ending here is reminiscent of the end of "National Lampoon's: Vacation"

Jovet

Yeah, you still don't get it. 😏 But the end "credit roll" is pretty awesome! LOL!! Where did the song come from??

Jovet

That's some chatty flora

James Bottas

Our boys are all growed up now! *sniff*

Steven Johnson

When sound editors don't actually listen to the sound mix. Oops.

Steven Johnson

I love this! No live chat interaction is included which is great at least as far as rewatching the youtube playlist is concerned. incidental MCU spoilers are cencored. And the end, with a theme song and a photo montage while the credits roll! Felt like a theater experience or like we (well, you guys) just graduated or something. Well done.

James Bottas

My favorite part is when Data and Geordi beam down, Data looks at his tricorder and says no animal life or birds (or something to the effect) within 50 kilometers. Meanwhile you hear frogs crocking and birds chirping.

Greg Quinn

honestly, kinda hope they start doing live streams for every season finale, be it good/bad/other

Peter MacKenzie

Well, you survived your rite of passage. Season 3, engage!
