We are all hating and goofing on this finale with 35 years of pent-up frustration (it aired 7/17/89) that was a direct affect of the writers strike impacting TNG during S2 and they completely ran out of money, that I think the boys will end up liking it because their expectations are lower than dog shit on the bottom of Wesley’s boot. 😂 EDIT I originally typed “7/18/85”. This was horribly lazy writing forced on me by an impossible deadline. Much like a certain TNG S2 finale…

As a fan who grew up in syndication.. it is absolutely not needed to watch everthing in order, in fact if you want the GenX experience of 70s star trek viewers... Watch one episode of TOS a day, maybe 2.. at least 5 days a week. Each watch you have a 50% chance of the episode you watch being in order, or just a random one. We never knew the order of the show back then

Whatever you think of this episode, just know that two of the best episodes to date (Elementary, Dear Data and Q Who) were able to be made instead. They went over-budget on those productions, and had to make it up somehow. Worth it!

Skip NO episodes of Star Trek, even the ones others don't care for. Watch EVERY episode in order to have it all down, and to maintain that all important "continuity" in your planned watch order. We all have our favorites and some not so. With a thousand hours of ''Trek to see, there's always SOMETHING in every story worth remembering.

Again, I have to say, I think you lads will enjoy it. It's a fine episode first time around, when you don't know what's coming, but it's not an episode that's made for repeated viewing. The a-story will interest due to the good character work, and the rest... Well, I think you'll have a blast for nostalgia reasons. (Boy, hard to explain that last bit without spoilers.)

My issue with the season 2 finale is it really messes with the status quo of the series. I just don't think the series ever recovers from the events of that episode.
