Where is S2E20?

Just another Red Shirt

Not a fan of Luwaxa to begin with but even I found the treatment of her character in this episode genuinely embarrassing. Hated the ending.

Nick Sauer

Jovet, I seem to remember people saying that Majel was ill at some point during TNG. Maybe it was this episode. I can't remember when or how long Majel was ill. She's naturally a vital person from what I've seen of her in interviews.

Numinous2019

@Jovet I'll be honest, I don't remember too much of S2E22.

Ca$hWednesday

I'm pretty sure Lwaxana Troi won't die if she doesn't find a mate. Not a good comparison.

Jovet

Or more

Jovet

She's the plucky comic relief?

Jovet

I normally really like her. But not in this one. She's annoying as hell, and her black eyes are just creepy!

Jovet

Her character is just too over the top for me here. I mean, I guess such desperation is a complete turn-off for me. Just not great character-writing-lore.

Jovet

The best part is the end. The views of the Enterprise over Pacifica are great, and Lwaxana outing the terrorists is quite the fun tonal shift from the reverence towards them the whole episode.

Jovet

I do love that Lwaxana talks to herself when she talks to the computer to find the holodeck. LOL!

Jovet

I completely missed this post. So I completely missed my opportunity to write my thoughts about this episode out before they read this thread. Oops. I don't believe they're going to enjoy this one that much. Lwaxana and her craziness is going to rub them the wrong way. Actually, her black eyes give me the creeps in this one. (I normally love her character.) The boys are going to love the fish-like people.

Jovet

@Ca$hWednesday TNG S2E22 is completely fine, and the fan disdain toward it isn't justified. It's far from perfect, but ain't complete trash either.

Jovet

I've often wondered if the inspiration for Lwaxana Troy was Blanche from The Golden Girls.

Dan Krantz

I remember my parents loved “Troi’s crazy mother”. They got a kick out of the episode. I found it meh.

Crankygrandma

Not one of my personal favorite episodes but also not a bad episode either. Majel Barrett is great as always and the under the radar cameo of Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac is a nice Easter egg. I always love to see Dixon Hill as well.

Eric Bundy

Dixon Hill. Lwaxana Troy experiencing Betazoid Pon Farr and chasing Picard all ovee the ship. Riker and Deanna referencing their past relationship, with some flirty glances. Worf fan-boying over the fishy Antedians' beauty. What's not to love? :)

Andrea R

Agree, possibly my favorite ST movie

Zack

Not the greatest episode, but I'm sure you like seeing Majel Barrett return either way

Andreas Schmitt

This episode makes me glad season 3 is that much closer.

Brian Moore

I liked it....was pretty heavy on cold War symbolism that the guys might not get but still good without the appreciate of that.

Greg Quinn

Agreee

Andrea R

This one is mainly remembered for the cameo by Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac. He played one of the fishy aliens. He promised to shave his beard so they could apply the alien makeup, so long as he got to either beam up or beam down. So they made sure he beamed up.

tyranusfan

THAT is funny!!😂😂😂

Collin Freeman

I’m going to disagree with you on that strong of an assessment on its own. However, compared to V, yes, VI is a masterpiece.

Collin Freeman

The Golden Girl of space. All she needed was Bea Arthur and Betty White and Gene would have had another series.

Collin Freeman

I’d go with that assessment, too

Collin Freeman

Good point

Collin Freeman

It is true Majel Barrett roddenberry is the First Lady of Star Trek However, the true mother of Star Trek is Lucille Ball who put everything in her studio Desilu behind Star Trek The show would have just been overlooked by all the mediocre pablum of 60’s TV and unimaginative TV producers at the networks that always play it safe. Potentially, leaving ST as an unrealized property like so many of Roddenberry’s projects that never really took off and could have just remained a part of his imagination.

Thicketdweller

STARDATE: 42859.2 En route to Pacifica, Pacifica the planet they were en route to in the episode Conspiracy The episode that gave us the unforgettable line from Worf. “Swimming, is too much like bathing.” And the Blue Gills

Thicketdweller

More Dixon Hill, yay! A horny Lwaxana Troi who saves the day, um, yay? Whatever trips your trigger. My ranking is “Time Filler With Good Moments”.

KatWithAttitude

I like Lwaxana, and the biggest problem with her appearances isn’t the character as much as the writing. She suffers from that 80s/90s “sex crazed middle aged woman” trope. “Oh look she’s over 50..and she still considers herself a sexual being! HILARIOUS!”

Glenn Johnson Barnes

or is she talking to the ghost of Nurse Chapel?!!!

Prof Moff

Majel is often called the "first lady of Star Trek" like as in "President and first lady." Other than that... Eh? This is another one of those episodes that just holds no memory in my head. Patrick Stewart and Majel work well together, though.

Steven Johnson

Does that mean she's talking to herself?

Steven Johnson

24th Century tech support "Have you tried inverse phasing?"

Steven Johnson

Fully agree, they needed an expert in the 20th century in the first visit to Dixon Hill but Picard would have definitely done some research out of interest on the time period prior to going in again.

Incredible Jon

I second this comment/question by Steven Linden.

Numinous2019

Picard though has an interest in antiquity......but your point is still a good one.

Numinous2019

HEY did you realize the Enterprise computer voice is actually Lwaxana Troi "the toy". Sorry running joke

Prof Moff

I think Star Trek five gets the reputation it does because it’s sandwiched in between four and six, which are great movies.

Just another Red Shirt

Star Trek six is a masterpiece.

Just another Red Shirt

Not sure this is relevant to anything really but it just really struck me watching but It's easy for us to forget that when Picard goes to the 1940s as Dixon Hill that's set around 450 years before his time. It'd be like us with our smartphones and Internet etc going back and walking around the mid 1500s. No wonder they're clueless half the time.

Incredible Jon

Star Trek V is completely fine, and the fan distain toward it isn't justified. It's far from perfect, but it ain't complete trash either.

Ca$hWednesday

Trying to make the Holodeck computers understand what you want is like dealing with modern technology today. Who knew that TNG would predict everything so well?

TalynStarburst

This episode is about as inconsequential as it gets, with barely any plot to speak of (get from point A to point B, done), but sometimes it's fun to just have our characters take a break from life and death situations and slip into a goofy sitcom plot.

JGoss

O'Brien to a cute little alien girl: "THAT?" O'Brien to giant ugly fish aliens just chilling in the transporter room indefinitely: "yeah that's fine" Progress!

JGoss

It might not be Riker for a change but there's a hell of a lot of attempted Rizz on display this episode. Picards attempts to escape it is hilarious, including using Data as the ultimate cockblock lol. Mr Homn is a great character too. He's perfect for Lwaxana since he just goes with the flow most of the time. Dixon Hill returns too, even if it's a failed attempt to escape the Rizz lol.

Incredible Jon

At best

Collin Freeman

Ok on the face of it a bit of a silly episode, although there's nothing wrong with a bit of humour but actually I think it shows how Lwaxana is a lot smarter and shrewder than everyone gives her credit for. Yes she's so over the top and flamboyant and ridiculous that it seems as if she's the worst person for the job but actually she knows full well exactly what she's doing at all times.

Incredible Jon

This one isn't amazing compared to most of the series. Really it comes down to how you feel about Lwaxana as a character. She's one of those characters that people either love or hate with not much middle ground in my experience.

Spencer Loften

I like Lwaxana episodes more than most fans, this was a lot of fun. It's always a welcome change of pace when she shows up because the regular cast tends to be a bit stuffy.

Phillip Grischa

And he didn't even complain about having to shave off his beard to do it.

KatWithAttitude

Oh this is a COMMON story, even on earth, right now.

JD Nevesytrof

A noir rom-com with villainous fish. TNG has got that versatility

James Bottas

Indeed it is.

Anthony Bernacchi

Yeah... this is one example where Lwaxana is too much for me to take. I like her when she has a little more serious role, but a little goes a long way when it's mostly comedy. Though I admit seeing very proper Picard get so flustered IS funny.

Joe Concepts

Delightful romp.

Darin Wagner

You have Dixon Hill, the holodeck and Lwaxana Troi. Just a fun episode, nothing more, nothing less.

Haven SMM

Highlight of the episode: Lwaxana talking to herself as the computer.

Gweneviere

An average but fun episode. Seeing Lwaxana on heat and the look on Rikers face that her sex drive quadruples is hilarious 😂 🔥

Andrew Bassey

I thought that fish looked familiar...

Evan Guthrie

I think this is the first time since The Big Goodbye that the Dixon Hill holodeck program has returned.

Elway Simpson

Last season you said you were impressed Nurse Chapel had “pulled off” playing Lwaxana Troi. In fact, the reverse was true: it was Lwaxana who was “pulling off” playing Nurse Chapel all along. Lwaxana Troi was what Majel Barrett Roddenberry was like in real life. Gene Roddenberry offered his wife the role by telling her, “Majel, I have a great part for you, and guess what – you don’t have to act!”

Anthony Bernacchi

I thought the “they’d look better with sauce” comment was hysterical ! IMHO

Chris S.

I concur!

Ca$hWednesday

When people say "don't watch season 2" I think this is one of the episodes they're remembering.

Evan Guthrie

She's Baaaack! You guys will probably flip for the alien make-up in this episode. And remember, Mick Fleetwood of the band Fleetwood Mac was this episode's special guest star, who was so excited, he couldn't remember his line (singular) and had to have it on a cue card. Don't remember seeing this celebrity cameo in this episode? It wasn't cut. Go on, guess which important character they used to highlight they had a special musical guest star. That's right, it was one of the bloody fish. Couldn't you tell?! His line was "Food!" by the way.

Nolan

Honestly, a little nothing episode, but Lwaxana Troi being ridiculous and the return of Dixon Hill, what's not to like?

JD Nevesytrof

Question: How did Deanna Troi turn out so reserved, eloquent, and rational with a crazy Mom like Lwaxanna?

StonyD

Question for you: Now that Lwaxana has appeared twice, are you hoping to see her back again? If she does return, what would you like to see the writers do with her?

Steven Linden

Pon Far Betazoid style. A fun, goofy episode. Majel Barrett feasts on scenery, so different when compared to Nurse Chapel.

Mike Rogers

Mr Homn is just as thirsty as Lwaxana is

SinocTheHodgeheg

Not much to say about this episode. Troy’s mother is horny. She also says some rather rude comments about the fish people saying that they looked better and sauce like come on, they’re people. Also, what is with Worfs comment saying he’s not a man of course he’s a man is that meant to mean he’s not human but by that logic then Luaxana it’s not a woman which she clearly is a woman so that was dumb. Though I did like how she just casually reveals the ambassadors or actually terrorists planning to blow up the peace conference lol.

Leighton Cressman

I don't care what everyone else says: Mr. Homn (Carel Struycken) is the star of this episode! LOL

Terrell Harkness

“What a Handsome Race”

Mister Hope

This was broadcast the same week that Star Trek V came out in theatres, so you had commercials for the film showing during the ad breaks. I do think the producers thought Majel Barrett may have been a draw hence why as her back?

Paul Rymer

Another Lwaxana episode these are fun you guys will enjoy her basically being in heat throughout the episode. Fun Fact Mick Flewtwood of Fleetwood Mac is one of the Antedeans

Jason Biggs

Not sure if you are Fleetwood Mac fans, but Mick Fleetwood from that band plays one of the Antedians. Totally unrecognizable in that costume though!

Dion James Pitman

Star Trek five is OK.

Just another Red Shirt

Someone's got to be the first to say it, so I will: The fish man is played by Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood.
