2023-12-26 22:07:06 +0000 UTCAs far as pop culture historians have been able to determine, "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" was the first movie or TV show ever to feature Mrs. Santa Claus. The film was released three weeks before the first broadcast of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," in which Mrs. Claus also appears. Rocket scientist Wernher von Green is clearly inspired by and named after Wernher von Braun (Brown), the Nazi rocket scientist who oversaw the use of slave labor to build Germany's V-2 rockets during World War II, and later joined the American space program. Von Braun appears in "Man in Space" and "Mars and Beyond," two fascinating 1950s episodes of the Disney anthology TV show, which are streaming on Disney+. (Disney+ does not have "Man and the Moon," the middle installment of the trilogy; perhaps Disney is waiting to add it until humans return to the Moon in the near future.) Because NASA needed von Braun to get them to the Moon, everyone had to be respectful of him in that era, but watching his Disney TV appearances now, his eyes look dead to me, as though there's no soul behind them. It's quite chilling. A major plot hole in the film, which I find especially bothersome as a space buff, is that we never find out what happened to the American astronauts who were pursuing the Martian ship back to Mars.

Not sure if that's because it's that bad or what. Josh you had a look on your face most of the time that looked like somebody Farted or you couldn't believe it is so bad! Alex you seemed to be looking more like you're waiting to see what is next! Also I did notice the little Nipper you had (to ease the pain), which I assume it did as I see those eyes are a bit bloodshot compared to the start of this thing. That's what I needed when I saw it 35 or 40 yrs ago. At least you can say you saw it. That's it! ๐ฎ๐

2023-12-17 04:21:40 +0000 UTCI have one of those big 50 Movie DVD sets of SciFi "Classics", which I only have because there are several movies on it that were skewered on MST3K, this being one of them. My copy was a little bit longer than yours, but who cares. I know the episode and the movie well enough where I probably didn't even need to sync up. And yes, there are several movies they did on MST3K that I sought out and watched the entire uncut version, since they usually had to cut them down for time.
