Not sure it helps to talk about season 7 when these guys are only in the middle of season one.

I can already see it impacting their entire reaction and discussions with this constant negativity. They wonder why people hate the season, why people hate episodes, why people hate Wesley and so on. I'm personally kind of getting sick of reading constantly about what sucks and what is bad and what is horrible. I personally come here to be among other Trek fans who love this content, not to read about how much Trek sucks. < / rant >

The writing team got overloaded with TNG, DS9 and preparing for the first TNG film. They also ran out of ideas and kept pulling out variations of a single story concept (someone from a crew member's past suddenly re-appears). Fans often disagree about when exactly TNG peaked, but season 7 (apart from the final episode) rivals 1 & 2 in overall quality.
