Majel Barrett’s other rolls include the voice of the Enterprise computer and, in real life, Mrs. Gene Roddenberry.

I would hate to be a delivery person here on Earth if all the boxes had faces and talked, especially if they were arguing with each other in the truck.

Boy, this show is still a tad embarrassing. Lwaxana Troi is a good addition but the first couple of seasons really reflected Roddenberry’s sex obsessions. Some of it worked in this episode but it’s nearly every episode and it’s all a tad weird. But there were bits in this one I liked. We do see Deanna as more than “I sense hostility, captain “ and I think the character is finally taking form. She becomes a good character. My parents really liked this episode because they liked “deana’s quirky mom”. Majel Barrett Roddenberry played number one in the first pilot, nurse chapel in TOS, and Deanna’s mom here, as well as the computer voice for this trek time period. Each character was very different.

It looks like Robert Ellenstein (1923–2010) who played father Steven Miller had just previously played the Federation President in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. I don't know if I knew that. Perhaps I did, but I haven't thought about that in decades. Yeah, it's kind of like Majel Barrett's best part. I don't know how the horror show ending ideas would have worked for 1980s Star Trek. Besides I think the focus was supposed to be on Majel Barrett and Marina Sirtis for this episode. It's an OK episode. The ending could have been even worse. The episode fleshed out the Betazoid race a bit at least. Dutch actor Carel Struycken who played Mr. Homn is known for playing Lurch in various versions of the Addams Family. Original series actor and voice actor Ted Cassidy (1932–1979) was the original Lurch. He played Ruk in the original series episode What Are Little Girls Made Of? which was probably Majel Barrett's most prominent episode until here. Ted Cassidy was supposedly 6 foot 8 while Carel Struycken was supposedly almost 7 feet tall.
