P.S. They did correct the missing effects for the repeat episode later that season

The interesting fact about this episode comes from the episode before, in the preview for next week. The scene where Picard shoots lightning on the bridged was an incomplete effects shot, and there was no lightning in the preview just items moving around like high winds I loved this episode at the time while it had predictable elements it was fast but it gave some more unconventional Picard moments, more character definition much like the fan favaorite expansion of Data with the Holmesian element

A fairly good episode. The alien delegates were pretty impressive for the time. In this episode though, I sensed a vibe that would continue for a bit. The smug "we are so advanced" vibe. It comes through in the interactions with the alien delegates. You had one set of delegates you recoil at the thought of the synthesized meat the crew eats and Riker and Yar just give each other "can ya believe this" looks. Then, at the end, when it is hinted that one delegate has slaughtered another and sent it to be cooked Picard and the crew were pretty much "oh those wacky inferior races" when they should have been alarmed that there has been a murder.

I thought this one was ok, it reminded me of Journey To Babel. I liked Data's Discovery of Sherlock Holmes and the 2 Scenes with the Pipe! I did not care for the Dress like Dress uniforms, did you guys like them? I think you guys will like this one, and I'll be interested in your take on the 2 Alien Species. I have no Fun Fact for this one. 😀🖖

Worf getting his ass shocked across a room is always a good laugh. And the start of one of his two unintentional trends. Early TNG is really trying with these alien designs. Season 2 has the best/worst one though.

Nolan

Like Worf, I don't remember having a memory loss, either. This episode isn't very memorable, though.

Here TOS style writing still shines through. You probably enjoyed it for the alien designs. TNG writing will take some time to feel like it's own thing and not TOS 2.0. Until then, enjoy these episodes that could easily have been in Phase II.

Andreas Schmitt

There's shades of "Journey to Babel" here with the delegates who are at one another's throats... but it's really just surface level. The delegates are there to draw the crew's suspicions for a while, but the audience knows the energy cloud was the real cause of the problems. Data becoming a Sherlock Holmes fanboy is fun though. edit: I feel like adding that I do enjoy this episode. We may know the energy cloud is the source of the problems but we don't know the how's and the why's so it still manages to give a somewhat creepy feel as Picard starts acting strangely. and when he electros everyone on the bridge, very cool scene

The Picard storyline in this episode is as bog standard as TNG gets.

The pacing and direction are off on this one..strange considering the director Cliff Bole will go on to direct some of TNG’s best episodes. I expect more when I see D.C. Fontana’s name on the teleplay credits. Not the worst episode of the series, but definitely not one of the best.

Glenn Johnson Barnes

One of the best attempts at making very alien aliens with (then) modern makeup techniques. A far cry from where they were in TOS. Also of note, they turn the lights off in the corridors at night. They don’t really do that much after this, but it’s a nice atmospheric effect.

Not a memorable one for me. Starting to feel sympathy for Worf who is more than anyone at this point a “red shirt” except he has to endure excruciating pain rather than being killed outright. I find Gates McFadden as Dr Crusher at this point unintentionally funny.

Paul Rymer

I don't remember this episode. Must have been 1 I skipped or only saw once.

Collin Freeman

Your classic gas cloud entity creature takes over the crew one at a time while the Enterprise plays taxi to some hungry diplomats.

Gregory

I love how they ended the episode so casually like, "Ha ha, one of our diplomats got eaten."

JD Nevesytrof

This one is.. Alright. The alien guys are certainly a visual standout. Data's love of Sherlock Holmes is a fine example of "soft" character building. More and more as these "crappy" early seasons progress we pick up these small bits and pieces. Brent Spiner is clearly have a ball. Dog people, or lizard dudes?

Steven Johnson

The voice of Mike Stoklasa: It's like in Star Trek The Next Generation, when Picard and Data beam down to Lo-

Another example of the standard high quality of TNG Season 1, excellent without being outstanding. A (leading) question: Do you think the use of the transporter to restore Picard stretches credibility too far, even in the context of Star Trek? There were similar transporter shenanigans in "The Lorelei Signal" and "The Counter-Clock Incident", but those were TAS episodes. Should we hold TNG to a higher standard? I predict that you will find "Lonely Among Us" to be a continuation of the experience of the first six episodes, laying a foundation for the series to come without being spectacular in itself. Fun fact: An Antican and a Selay were among the action figures released alongside Season 1 of TNG.

Brief? 2 to 3 sentences? you know trek fans can right entire essays on each episode right?
