I'm pretty sure that was a joke, like the later one about Peg not knowing what a salad was.

Guess he never saw those collect call commercials.

“What’s long distance?” Jesus Alex, I’ve never felt so old. What an eye-opener.

BurmaShave was a real thing. Their roadside advertisements were clever. A phrase or slogan broken up into a series of signs, ending with the brand. e.g. “If you don’t know…” “Whose signs these are…” “You can’t have driven very far.” “Burma Shave.”

I really like the series, but I feel it is sometimes uneven given how some episodes are so completely different in setting and tone.

Joe Concepts

The series tends to keep the real details of what happens with Sam's body, what happens to the actual person he leaped into, etc. somewhat vague. Except for a few episodes where they eventually nail down what's happening. But honestly, they're not all that interesting in the sci-fi part of the show, and tend to stick to more fantasy. The within-his-lifetime stuff is strangely limiting but it makes them focus on very specific eras in recent history. Exploring social issues, etc.

I watched a ton of this show as a kid but I've never revisited it ever since so I've got basically zero memories of any episode specifics. Only remember the main actors and the show's formula. This'll be fun

My favourite Quantum Leap fact is that when Donald Bellisario served in The Marines, he almost got into a fight with Lee Harvey Oswald who he had caught reading a communist newspaper. He created Quantum Leap because he wished he could go back in time and change history by probably preventing JFK from being assassinated.

A fun thing about watching shows that depict what was the near-future at the time but which is now decades ago, is seeing just how they overestimate how futuristic that near-future would be.

Dion James Pitman

This series was created by Donald Bellisario, who was one of the main writers of Battlestar Galactica. I’ve never watched it before, so I’ll be following along with the edited videos.
