Btw, Patrick Macnee, who plays Count Iblis, is also the voice of the narrator at the beginning of the series (“There are those who believe that life here began out there …”) and the voice of the Cylon Imperious Leader.

Here is the opening scene of the reboot. I know there are fans of the original series on this channel. I don’t mean to disparage Battlestar Galactica’s original outing. I know what it means to have. Somebody criticize something that you love. And, of course, the special effects are far superior, but I ignore that. I ignore most special effects, because I am a writer and for me story matters more than anything. Taking a look at the opening scene of the reboot, will give you an idea of the huge leap they took with the Cylons. Galactica has always been a great concept. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9VBTcDF1eVQ&pp=ygUiYmF0dGxlc3RhciBnYWxhY3RpY2Egb3BlbmluZyBzY2VuZQ%3D%3D

I always thought Battlestar Galactica was a really good concept. However, I found the original series corny. And so, I did not even wish to entertain watching the reboot in 2004. And then I read a review in Newsweek magazine that said it was the best drama on TV. I couldn’t believe it. Battlestar Galactica? I watched the first episode and from the first scene I was completely hooked. Good people do really shitty things. Bad people do really heroic things. The Cylons had good reasons to hate that humans. I mean, what other show would have a character say a line from the Bob Dylan song , “All Around the Watchtower” and have another character finish the line in another scene? And then use the Jimi Hendrix version in the final episode of the series. I was really surprised when Edward James Olmos was the actor who played Adama - in an interview he said he wouldn’t read the script, and his agent absolutely insisted. The show mirrored some iconic historical images, including the new president being signed in to office after the cylon attack and it looked just like LBJ being signed in as president after JFK‘s assassination. They set up the shot perfectly for that reference. You really could not miss it. I urge you to look at the reboot. It is Shakespearean in it’s scope.

Thanks. I did not remember that.

Actually the next two parter that comes up was first shown as a 2-hour special. Only divided up for syndication.

Yeah, the rope dancing… According to a note in the script, Glen Larson was going to ask the choreographer from Buck Rogers to come up with some “spacey disco dancing.” But I don’t know if she’s the one to blame for the end product or not…. Interestingly, the remains of the crashed ship were made up of used set pieces from Universal’s TV-movie “Brave New World.”

The end of the review gave me, "we'll do it Live!" Vibes 😆 In part one they said the crater and debris could only be caused by a ship the size of a Battlestar. Since Apollo and Starbuck were hesitant to show Sheba what they found inside it is logical to assume that this was what remained of the Battlestar Pegasus and the body of Commander Cain was in there. In that case it would seem Count Iblis had earlier encountered the Pegasus and after following him this was their end result and would've been the Galactica too if those light probes hadn't scared Iblis away. As Baltar recognized the voice of Iblis as that of the Cylon Imperious Leader it makes me wonder about the Leaders as the Centurions and IL series etc are all fully machines and in the first episode after the 3 part series opener the Leader said they are umnipotent, meaning incapable of dying or are regenerated by cloning technology exactly what the Lizard like original Cylons truly are and what their connection they have to iblis is. The rope dancing was funny on its own but it was especially so when Apollo and Sheba did it, you could clearly see he wasn't doing well at it and at least they cut their dance short.

Interesting. I felt this episode was the best acted in the entire series.

Unfortunately I found this to be more lame of an episode than when I first saw it. Creator/producer Glen Larson was a fairly devout Mormon so he used a lot of his knowledge and beliefs to infuse into this show. The acting and lines were mostly bad in this episode. Anne Lockhart's acting was especially lacking. The best part was indeed the initial scenes with Baltar. The 2-parters, except for the premiere pilot, were not shown as TV movies. They were shown as 2-parters when they originally aired. They did release the pilot movie and the Living Legend 2-parter as theatrical releases a year or 2 after the show had been cancelled.

What they saw in the crashed ship was supposed to have been the body of a dead demon with cloven hooves, which gave away Iblis's identity. There are two explanations for why they didn't do the reveal - (1) because it was considered too intense for the Bible Belt, or (2) because it didn't photograph well. Anne Lockhart (Sheba) said it "looked like a dead sheep." The idea with Boomer beating Apollo was that Count Iblis had predicted Boomer's team would win when they had never beaten Apollo and Starbuck before. A little anticlimactic, just making a correct sports prediction after performing supernatural feats, but it might have convinced a few people to follow him. Iblis is the name given to the leader of the devils in Islam. In the original script he was called "Prince Diabolis," but the name was changed to make it less on-the-nose for a Judeo-Christian audience.
