UNCUT REACTION - Star Trek TOS - All Our Yesterdays S3E23

Comments

TOS Sex Scoreboard Spock sporked Zarabeth Kirk 11 Chekov 4 Spock 3 new +1 Bones 2 Scottie 1 Uhura 1 Extras: The animal Spock shows emotion, acts war like, and wins the girl. Almost caveman like but lets be honest. Eating meat, cold weather, and having a half naked woman wanting you, leads to only one thing for me……………………………… sleep. But I am not Spock.

I think this would have made a much better finale to the show than Turnabout. I get that definitive finales weren't so much a thing back then, but even the title "All Our Yesterdays" has a very retrospective vibe, compounded by the fact they're actually traveling to the past. Plus it's kind of a capstone to Spock and McCoy's rivalry/friendship over the course of the show. It would have been fitting. I feel really bad for Zarabeth. She gets teased for a few hours by the prospect of company, only to have it ripped away and go back to living alone for the rest of her life. I mean, there would have to be others living in that time, but if she's in a very remote area and it would take days or weeks to travel to a settlement, and that's assuming she knew where to go, it would be suicide to venture away from the cave that long. I suppose another possibility, though slim, is that Spock knocked her up in which case she wouldn't be entirely alone, but eventually they would be, so not much better. Also they got creative with that cave set, filming from opposite sides to give the appearance of 2 separate chambers. Good episode.

Yes, that's why the old guy kept saying "no, you need to get prepared first!". You also missed the inquisitor telling Kirk that without being prepared they would only last several hours in the past before dying. So they HAD to go back, Spock could not have stayed with the girl, except Spock didn't know that. Only Kirk had that information.

Andreas Schmitt

"I am onstage with the entire cast of Star Trek and Kenny G! Who's the loser now?!"

Brad Barter

Great Episode, quite the melencholy one at that. Spock never has lasting love .. btw, I think you guys may of been distracted. he intel that that are characters would die if they retuned, was true bd they were not "prepared" . I think you thought this was a mislead or Josh speculated they were lied too. No that part is accurate!

Delphinus

Glad other people remember that Star Trek Special 30th Celebration Hosted by Ben Stiller!

Delphinus

I agree once again with your comments: Nimoy and Kelley carry this episode and do a great job of it. Overall, a B+ for me. I saw an interview with Marriette Hartley years ago and she seemed to rather enjoy having done this episode. "It was one of those episodes they let Mr. Spock let his ears down" she remarked. As for the next episode, Turnabout Intruder, a lot of people come down on it but I don't think it's that bad - just not well executed like a lot of the 3rd season episodes.

Collin Freeman

I can watch Turnabout Intruder all day long. The Shacting is off the scale!

James H

The craziest thing is this all takes place in the span of about 3 hours based on the opening dialog. Spock falls in love quick, and McCoy's a quick healer! Also, my condolences that your first episode in the same space is going to be Turnabout Intruder... I hope it doesn't put you off Star Trek for good 😂 Looking forward to that reaction!

Only original series episode to use no Enterprise interior sets.

Michael Nemo

Yesterday's Son is a much loved original novel followed by an as good sequel, Time for Yesterday,

Mark Chrisco

I love this episode and I see it as Spock’s version of City On The Edge Of Forever.

Michael Nemo

Yes this was one of the better episodes of season 3. Marriete Hartley later did a series of commercials with James Garner star of the Rockford Files for Polaroid cameras. People actually thought they were a real life couple as they had such great chemistry. She probably became quite well off just from those commercials

Sherman Lin

For those interested, there’s a sequel novel in which Spock discovers that Zarabeth gave birth to his son…. and he goes back in time to get him. It sounds like I’m joking, but I’m not. It’s called “Yesterday’s Son.” I read it 39 years ago. Worth a read, I think.

Ian Wolfe, the fabulous character actor had quite the career. Over 300 acting credits stretching from the 30s to the 90s. He also appeared in the second season episode, Bread and Circuses, as Septimus. On a side note, your comment about Mariette Hartley as Zarabeth being banished by Gene Roddenberry is surprisingly closer to the truth than you might realize. But, that's another reaction.

Mark Chrisco

It is a little sad that the last episode is upon us. This has been the most fun youtube has provided me, and I had never been to patreon before. The excuse to go back and rewatch the entire series was a real favor, and these videos in the background with your conversation made it all seem like not a solitary activity. Saying goodbye to TOS is an illusion because Star Trek is the show that lives forever, but this experience is almost at an end, which can be extended with the cartoons and movies but it won't be the same. Anyway, there is still one more, one I love because William Shatner gives it his all in a perfomance just as good as any he ever gave on the show.

By the time the world knew who Ben Stiller was & his love for classic Trek the original gang had already finished their movie run. The only fan of TOS who was an established young actor that got a guest spot was Christian Slater waking Captain Sulu up in Undiscovered Country. Whoopi came in with her love of TOS and especially Uhura but not until TNG. Also Ben Stiller made it clear he was only a fan of classic Trek so he would've had no interest in being on any of the later Trek series.

Brad Barter

As the man said, "Hope you got to hit while McCoy was out!"

Steven Johnson

The preparation, or lack thereof, is also why Spock is losing his mind. He's not synced up to the time period properly.

Steven Johnson

There is only one way that Zarabeth could have been buried. By her children!

Jeremy Rickard

The prosecutor explains why people like him (and Zarabeth) can't go back. There's some kind of "preparation" that's done to them before they're sent through the Atavachron... but Kirk can go back because that wasn't done to him, he just ran through. But because Kirk wasn't prepared, he (and Spock and Bones) can only survive a short time in the past. After Atoz stunned Kirk, he presumably did prepare him for the Atavachron, so if Kirk hadn't rolled off the little pushcart he would have been stuck in the past forever. Looking forward to your thoughts on Turnabout Intruder. I find it a lot of fun.

James H

It's a shame he never got a guest role in Star Trek. Seth Mcfarlane got one ffs.

Steven Johnson

In a way this one actually ties back into The Tholian Web, where Bones is the one losing his marbles, and Spock is the one holding it together. In this episode they flipped it. Also I've said this before, but I think some of the elements of this episode actually play out going into the first Star Trek movie, almost by happenstance. If there was no animated series, this episode would flow fairly smoothly into The Motion Picture. I didn't even know there was an animated series until after Star Trek Voyager had ended. Guys, I know we got one more, but honestly.. The road is pretty much at the end. I get the feeling you guys might enjoy it from certain aspects, but I think you'll probably agree with those of us that have said we think Yesterdays made a better spot to end on for TOS.

Steven Johnson

We see Spock with his full range of emotions in play including eating meat we find out here Vulcans are strictly vegetarian. Also if Spock didn't still have a shred of his decency and logic to cling to he very well could've k*lled Dr. McCoy. Unlike in The Empath where a coming super nova was only implied we finally got to see one happen in the last shots of the Enterprise leaving the system just prior to the end credits. All I will say about the next episode Turnabout Intruder is that episode alone makes Star Trek worthy of its cancelation to me it is that bad but I will go more into that once we see your reactions to it.

Brad Barter

Ben Stiller is a huge TOS Trekkie says he loves the Gorn, the Mugatu and the space hippies, Herbert, Herbert, Herbert. He also pointed out his love for the Librarian in this episode All Our Yesterdays in that his name is Dr. Atoz as Ben puts it A to Z the full alphabet in his name, he got it.

Brad Barter

The penultimate episode! It's hard to believe you've only got one more to watch! I love watching your reactions to these and I'm looking forward to TAS and TNG :-)
