I just looked up the last bit about the Tadashi AI assistant that showed up in Avengers Age of Ultron. Cool!!

Love this movie so much. And as someone who’s all about the vicarious enjoyment of watching people I enjoy getting to experience something great for the first time, I was really happy to see this pop up for you/us.

Rob and Trin, you can count this as part of your MCU watches. Big Hero 6 is a Marvel property, originating in comics with characters like Sunfire and Silver Samurai, but gaining massive popularity through Disney's animated film and series, which reimagined the team with characters like Hiro Hamada and Baymax, establishing them in a distinct, lighter-toned Marvel universe (Earth-14123) separate from the main MCU. Key Points: Comic Origins: The team first appeared in Sunfire and Big Hero 6 #1 (1998), featuring Japanese heroes like Sunfire (Shiro Yoshida) and Silver Samurai (Kenuichio Harada). Disney Adaptation: Disney's 2014 film and subsequent series introduced new characters (Hiro, Baymax, GoGo, Wasabi, Honey Lemon, Fred) and a new origin, making them household names. Distinct Universes: While Baymax and the concept are Marvel, the Disney version is set in its own continuity (Earth-14123), a different branch of the Marvel multiverse from the main comics. Key Members: The Disney team includes tech prodigy Hiro, inflatable robot Baymax, speedster GoGo Tomago, tough guy Wasabi, alchemist Honey Lemon, and monster-themed Fred. Official Marvel Presence: You can find information and history on Big Hero 6 on Marvel's official website, acknowledging their comic book roots. In essence, Big Hero 6 is Marvel, but the beloved characters from the movies are from a specific, popular offshoot of the Marvel universe. Big Hero 6 also connects to the Avengers through Easter eggs in Avengers: Age of Ultron, showing Tony Stark in the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology lab where he left a chip labeled "Tadashi," hinting at shared tech and characters like Baymax (inspired by Iron Man) and Dummy (Tony Stark's hydraulic arm robot assistant that helps build his Iron Man suits), linking them to the larger MCU.

Totally forgot how much I loved this movie - hadn't seen it in a while, so thanks for that. Really does deserve a sequel (also can't be the only person who had a little crush on Tadashi). And Rob, since you said you'd love to live in San Fransokyo, they did open a whole section devoted to the movie at Disney's California Adventure a few years ago, complete with a Baymax meet and greet (unfortunately it appears to just be a guy in an inflatable suit). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=At-pMh87cFM

I had this movie on a loop for a year when my kid fell in love with it! And I think I cried every time he “made me” watch it 😋 Just now I had a companion that heard the Fa-lalalalala and just parked it beside me for the watch while I was cooking. I just had to play dumb every time he asked me, what is that man using? (vaping) and I was like, oh wasn’t watching, oh I have no idea, maybe something traditional they do in England 😝 Poor kid, still believes I haven’t drank more than a cup of wine ever or even had a cigarette 🫣🫢🤫

MarySoul

one of my favourtite marvel movies!

James Cromwell, who voiced Callahan, has been in loads of stuff and is very recognisable. He was the farmer in Babe, the warden with the sick wife in The Green Mile, the captain in LA Confidential, to name but a few. The first time I saw this movie was babysitting my little niece and by the end we were both crying our eyes out!

Laura Dawson

This movie is followed by a traditional 2D animated series that ran for 3 seasons. I personally don't like the new 2D style. And it slightly contradicts the ending of the movie.

Cliff

This was a lot of fun. Animation was excellent.

Fred's VA Tj Miller was also Tuffnut in How To Train Your Dragon 1 & 2
