The Haunting of Hill House S1E5+6 The Bent-Neck Lady - Two Storms

A lot of reactors get frustrated by Steve, but his behavior is fully explained in his episode (the first episode--so a while ago, lol). When he's talking yo Mrs. Dudley about the Ouija board and she starts on religion, Liv comes in and boasts about how they were training Steve to be a skeptic. Telling him not to believe things without hard proof, etc. He is a product of how he was raised. Even when the evidence is right in front of his face, he can "rationalize" his way around it.

Insane reveal at the end of the first episode. It’s crazy how even though I knew Nell was going to die I was still praying something changes so she survives. I love Nell so much in all the eras I love how much time this show spends on scenes with just dialogue. The second episode here was almost entirely conversations between the family in the funeral home and I loved every second of it.

I'm a little late to the game, but all I will say is just keep looking at the background...

Clearly they need to micro-chip their kids... Seriously though, I think I'm enjoying this show because it's more of a well-crafted family trauma drama than a "haunting" - supernatural horror movies/shows to me are more silly than creepy or scary. Throw in some good acting, writing and directing and it becomes enjoyable. Also, until the coffin fell I counted 4 cuts in that whole second episode...give that steadicam operator a raise...

Those arguments did feel really real. Natural, not scripted, and real things people fight about...the ways grief shows up differently depending on how you were traumatized. It really was masterful to watch.

Even if we don't see them all back to back, I hope we check these out at some point! I've seen Bly Manor and tried to start Midnight Mass. Well I did start it but I got up to do something and never sat back down. I just let it play until Netflix asked me if I was still watching. I love these vibes but sometimes I need help becoming interested in something right off the bat or I move on. It takes me several episodes to become fully invested in something, usually. I started Stranger Things probably 4-6 times and never got more than 15 minutes in and then one day, boom! Right mood, I was hooked and binged the three seasons that were out. Im a grown ass adult woman, and my office (self-employed) is done in Stranger Things and Marvel, lol. I never would have watched Dexter or any of the prequel/sequels, or The 100 if not for Rob and Trin! I ended up liking them so much, I watched ahead. I guess that's what I mean when I say I need help getting into a show and the reason I hope we get around to them.

Just commenting to show the post some love - today feels kinda heavy and I don't have anything original to add.

Two Storms is a master piece, no matter how many times I see it. Those incredibly long 1 shots are such a treat. Rob, hearing you say you had rewatched your previous reactions was so cool to hear. All of Flannigan's shows pack so many subtleties in every episode. It's possible to notice new things even after multiple rewatches. The same goes for Haunting of Bly Manor (my favorite) Midnight Mass, Midnight Club, and House of Usher.

Ghost Mom

What an incredible pair of episodes! The reveal at the end of episode 5 was crazy, and it’s even crazier how much I cared about Arthur given how little we saw of him. He was just the perfect husband for Nellie, which makes their story even more tragic. And episode 6’s cinematography… I’m speechless. The transitions, the long shots, the subtle details in the background. A masterpiece of filmmaking, in my opinion. The acting is also phenomenal, those arguments felt SO real and tense. The whole cast is unreal. Super excited for what’s next!

R&T were so immersed in the scenes that I wasn't sure if they noticed the impressively long, continuing one shots. The camerawork is amazing. Episode 6 in particular underscores that this is primarily a family drama on family trauma. They haunt themselves & each other more than anything else. There are unnerving & creepy sights. But... besides House Olivia tricking Nell to her fate... none of the other Hill House apparitions have been shown to cause any physical harm so far.

Octavia

Someone mentioned that Ep 6 was shot in 5 cuts- may not realize that one of the scenes was over 17 minutes long - one of the longest scenes ever . A true masterpiece.

Literally the major points in your life flashing before your eyes in death. Or your death flashing thru your life. Both. Sadly, Arthur just died. He had an aneurysm. Nothing made it happen, it just did.
