But this sentence right here is proof that we all have very different tastes, which is why the polls can be so varied. I myself only voted for one of the movies that got in this time, but each to their own. I'll probably watch a few of them still. R&T do a good job of accepting what people suggest and picking their own I think. Just watch what you like each month, and skip the rest. Can't please everyone as they say :)

But I truely believe that it’s one of the good months (watched only one movie last month), unlucky for Leon (I love me some Jean Reno, trust me) but I feel like we gotta appreciate the fact that there is only one « Fast and Furious » kinda movie 😂

There are real film experts out there that can break everything they did wrong, and literally thousands of great movies in contrast. Its fine if you like fast food, but if you run around telling everyone its gourmet food and they should take your word for it because you are a chef you look like a clown. I do appoligize for my are you high comment, that was just my shock at someone who actually convinced themselves because they like something it must be objectivly good.

It's like the trashy, thin Harlequin romances that I read at the beach as a 16 year old. Easy, breezy, forgettable and cliche. I wouldn't put the Movies or the Books in a time capsule for the future, that's for sure.

Even an AI can explain to you were the movies and books are terible in terms of filmography, writing and acting. That doesnt mean that it cant appeal to you, or that the characters cant be relatable. But at its core its the story of a 109 year old vampire obsessing over a 17yo, and its OK because he LOOKS 17.

2025-03-29 02:59:55 +0000 UTCSometimes it's just the truth. I also feel that the voting leans heavily towards undiscerning younger and male. But I also think too many women like dreck like Twilight. Definitely think there are many males & females with broader quality tastes. But there's a trend here to consistently favor flash over substance. (Occasionally I do, too.) Might not be the case, but the choices really consistently suggest it. The fact that classics like Dances With Wolves (for example) never win, but D&D does... speaks volumes to me.

2025-03-29 02:50:54 +0000 UTC@Anatol. I’m surprised you’d rank Leon as a “best ever” movie. It’s okay, but I find some aspects with Natalie Portman’s character quite problematic. This whole list is pretty mediocre tbh. But at least D&D is a well made fun romp, and I can see R&T getting a laugh out of it. As usual, most of the highest quality films didn’t even make it into the poll. Thankfully there’s some great TV shows to watch instead. 🙂

Made it about 10 minutes in and just couldn't stop laughing. Had high hopes for D&D too. Great cast. Got a little further into it than F&F but ultimately had to move on. Pacific Rim was fun. But the majority wants what the majority wants. Hopefully, we continue with the ranked choice voting and drill down to the what we think of as "the good stuff", which is, of course, different for each of us. For some, most apparently, F&F and D&D constitute "the good stuff". Not my place to tell them they're wrong. I'll look forward to Leon and others and pray we don't have to sit through the whole F&F franchise. After all, there's still the Twilight saga. 😕 Wait. 🤔 Nevermind. 😐 My god, I haven't even seen The Deer Hunter suggested yet. Apocalypse Now? Jaws fer cryin' out loud? Ever see a movie called Amelie? The Commitments? Taxi Driver? Ok. Fast and Furious it is. 🫡

It had appeal to young girls because Bella is a blank slate you can simply transpose yourself onto thats it.

People might misremember this, because of how huge this franchise became (and very quickly too), was a smaller almost Independent movie. It was at least earnest and tried to be art, whereas the following ones were just money motivated pieces of bad content

I don't care for the Fast and Furious franchise myself, but D & D and Pacific Rim are both very enjoyable movies. They're not cinematic masterpieces, of course, but you can't tell me that Rob and Trin aren't probably going to have a great time watching them.

Neither are award winning movies, but at least they’re both fun, as I said elsewhere in the comments. I have “guilty pleasure” movies too, but I wouldn’t dream of suggesting them to people I admire and who only have our suggestions to choose from. Rob and Trin deserve better.

But that's me, personally, why I meant by awards and stuff is that it doesn't really matter if it not voted and if they are not going to enjoy it. I actually think they are going to like to watch Pacific Rim pretty much, for example.

Don't actively keep putting other people's suggestions down because it's not a film you want them to react to. Everyone's allowed a vote without having to explain their reasons, please be kind to others - I actively stopped suggesting films for months because someone always has something negative to say. It's not fair for people to make others feel like that x

Personally I don't want them to do nothing just for my or our amusement and their bland platitudes. I don't know them, but they don't even seem the type. I think most people prefer when reactors give their honest reaction, good or bad. And I just really follow and engage in two channels, but I'm I happier when they enjoy something I've enjoy before too? Obviously. But I'm also glad discovering new things alongside them. And can opt out of watching things I just don't have interest in, like Dexter, watch it religiously at the time, not in the mood for the rewatch, but happy makes so many others happy. In summation, as I said, if they are in the joke, and happy to do a diss watch and it is a honest poll win? 1 movie, won't be more that all the episodes that I don't watch of Dexter, and that's fine. I mean, I repeat, I don't care for watching again D&D, but I would never rob the joy of the watch of the people that so passionately have campaign for it if it wins. Even if personally I know Silver linings and Spotlight are awards contenders and winners and critics favorites and are in fact objectively better movies, even then.

And I’m really glad you like both of them as much as I do. I was just wondering if Rob and or Trin had seen them because I always suggest them, but they’re never on the polls that I’ve seen. And as much as they love, Tom Hanks Philadelphia would be a great choice, especially with Denzel Washington, and the rest of that amazing cast and of course Glory with Morgan Freeman and Denzel, Washington another amazing cast in a loosely true story about an important group of people during the Civil War.

To me, this isn't just a great movie, it's an important one. Philadelphia is another and, though not based on actual events (correct me if I'm wrong about this), it's also an important movie. I'm sure we'll get around to both eventually.
