Luke didn't know Jessica at this point, You remember when Jessica took photos of two people in an apartment, that scene is in this episde and its Luke and the woman, Luke Cage is speculated to be at the same time as Daredevil season 1

Love this show i actually like it more then JJ

Anthony Jackson

I will seek it out. Thanks for the heads up.

You did see the actor that played Stokes not long ago. He was James Johnson the military recruiter in Hidden Figures.

Cindy

If you like Mike Colter then you really need to see him in Evil. Such an excellent TV show and a completely different type of character. I just really love that show and it is only 4 seasons long with about 8 episodes a season so you won't get tired of it.

Cindy

I know it’s more work for you guys, but it would be awesome if you did a tier list after you watch iron fist like you used to do for walking dead with all the Netflix characters. I’d love hearing you talk more in depth about them all and it’d be a great primer for Defenders 😁

Simon Williams

This, and Ironfist, are far less interesting to me than DD or JJ. It's part of the Netflix series... so, necessary, guess

Keith Duperreault

Just here to say I can't believe how far into the mcu you've gotten. From first watching a smug tony stark being kidnapped to now caught up with most if not all mcu movies - it's been a journey 🤌🏽

The singer in the club is a real world star named Raphael Saadiq. If you were sentient and into R&B during the 80s-90s, he had a couple of successful bands; "Tony! Toni! Toné!" and "Lucy Pearl". He never had big big successes after that from what i remember but he went on to collaborate with all kinds of artists. It is kind of cool they had him in this, it kind of a hat tip to old heads like me.

James W.

And he is such a good actor as well!

Fun fact: Mike Colter insisted his character wear a hoodie instead of Luke Cage's iconic yellow t-shirt because of Trayvon Martin's murder in the US and people saying wearing a hoodie makes you look like a baddie. So he wanted his hero to wear one.

We had a chunk of years where Marvel and DC/Warner were making a concerted effort at centering their black characters, in a meaningful way, in "black" stories, to varying levels of success. As a black dude I really enjoyed it and like that they knocked some of the dust of old characters that were a bit corny and unrelatable in the modern context. I love that they lean into the regional nature of lots of Marvel heroes. When I was a kid New York had all of these boroughs and neighborhoods that seemed iconic to me because they were writ large in comics and other media. Daredevil has Hell's Kitchen, Spidey is from Queens, Cap is from Brooklyn, and Luke is from Harlem; each place felt distinct in their own right. In reality most of these places are pretty small but they still ring out in my imagination even after 30+ years of reading and consuming these stories. Harlem is presented in a pretty negative light because it has had a bumpy past but as Mariah says her bullshit political spiel, a big chunk of the African American culture was born out of there and popularized in media over the years. They really couldn't have cast a better person for Luke. Mike Colter is a whole of lot of man and so damned handsome. Before this I had only seen him The Good Wife but I get hyped whenever I see him pop up. I hope we seem him and the other Netflix MCU crew pop-up again now the Marvel has tapped into the relaunch/reboot of Daredevil with many of the other folks coming back. I also hope that we get more Agents of Shield one day even if Disney seems to want to forget that show ever existed. It has a flavor the classic Joss Whedon to it and though that style of writing gets shit on a lot nowadays, I dig what they did on that show. Also, everyone is so damned hot in that show that it makes it a pleasant rewatch.

James W.

Funfact, Luke is Called by Pops “Powerman” who is one of Luke aliases in the Comics and they focus a lot on hiring him, pretty funny when you know one of the famous run of LK is called “Hero for hire” ! Seeing Mahershala Ali playing cottonmouth again remembered me how excited I was when they announced him playing Blade in the MCU

Amaras

Yeah, like you, I never found Luke Cage all that interesting in Jessica Jones, but this show surprised me when I first watched it. It has a fantastic supporting cast, great cinematography...oh yeah, and a killer soundtrack. It's been said that this show is essentially a "hip-hop western" with Luke Cage as the lone gunman, Stokes the evil villian, Mariah the corrupt law(wo)man and Harlem's Paradise the saloon...

Michael Celia

I love that there are a lot of real artist in Luc Cage. Raphaël Sadiq performed in this episode; a great neo soul singer/songwriter.

Kamanda Hickey

The guy playing Shades is also in Sons Of Anarchy, he plays Juice in that.

Matt M

Very interested in this one, it seems good so far. I’m assuming this is right after the first avengers movie based off what that guy selling videos said. I love seeing tie ins like that. It is super cool how every show has a completely different vibe and tone to it.

James

Im glad you’re enjoying it so far. Mahershala Ali is one of my favourite villains.

Varre de Villiers

other than DD, this one was my favorite from the Netflix universe

blorgins

I think you’re really gonna love this series 😬

Alex Gonzalez

Harlem, here we come!
