Remember the Titans 2000

Comments

I was a kid, but I'm remember seeing Denzel's 1st movie right after it came out... Carbon Copy (1981). Then watched him on tv in St Elsewhere for years. Weird now to think of him being in a long running tv series. My favorite DW movies, besides this one, are: Crimson Tide, Glory, The Bone Collector, The Pelican Brief, Unstoppable, Courage Under Fire, Book of Eli, Inside Man. We need a Denzel Washington poll!

Octavia

I like that movie

Ben

Absolutely! Gene was great in everything he did.

Rashad Walker

Oooh I haven’t watched this in forever & it’s such a goodie! Time for a movie night with Rob & Trin!

I usually don't go for drama or sports movies (I do like sports movies, but it depends), because I prefer movies with some humor and romace (rom-com, fantasy, action, adventure...) most of the time. But when an actor is in it that I really like and it sounds interesting, I might choose to watch it even if it's not something I would wanna watch only based on the plot. In this case I think it was Denzel Washington and not knowing how sad it's gonna be at times (I don't remember if I knew about race being a thing and I definitely didn't know about the accident). I think I thought it's just gonna be a football flick with one of my favorite actors. But what a positive surprise this was back then. I expected it to be a good movie, since Denzel is in it, but not how much I would love it. It's one of those more dramatic ones I watched for said reasons, but even re-watch now and then. If done right, I also like to watch something sad when I'm in the mood. And this movie is sad, but also has that uplifting spirit that I like about some sports movies. And the race-drama was balanced pretty well for my taste, they focused more on the team itself dealing with it and not too much on the hate that came from outside.

This was a great movie. It absolutely lived up to expectations set for it. To add to the Denzel Washington movies listed in the previous comment, Glory is amazing with cast members alongside Denzel that everyone here would recognize. The Equalizer movies are really great and satisfying films as well.

This movie was played every year in school around the time of black history month. It never fails to make everyone cry. Btw I grew up in Virginia so this story of the titans is well known.

Man On Fire is a beauty 🔥

This movie is just fantastic. As for Denzel, he is by far my favorite actor. For anyone who wants to discover him I recommend: Malcom X, Mo’ Better Blues, Man on Fire, Training day, Fences, Hurricane Carter, John Q- And that is just a tiny selection.

This movie came out when I was going to high school nearby TC Williams (we played them in football) and I remember being jealous that their marching band and cheerleaders got invited to the premiere and got to meet Denzel Washington. As you'd expect from a Disney "based on a true story" sports flick, there are some inaccuracies. Alexandria schools were already integrated before 1971 - the city's high schools were only consolidated into TC Williams that year...Gerry Bertier's accident in reality happened after the state championship, not before...and the championship game against Marshall was actually a regular season game - the real-life championship was a blowout. Still makes the movie an uplifting one though.

I recommend “Fences” with Denzel. You won’t regret it!

Anthony Jackson

This is actually in my top 5 favorites of all time! SO HAPPY to watch this with you guys! Thank you!

Anthony Jackson

Loved it. I miss wholesome, message driven, feel good movies, even if you have to pay with tears for a rewarding closure of the story. Happy and thankful it was picked!

MarySoul

Crimson Tide is one of my absolute favorites. They should also watch it for the late, great Gene Hackman... Denzel & him are really top tier in it.

Octavia

Are you telling me that Beta is in Alexandria in a different universe. This was definitely a feel good movie I loved all the scenes of the team bonding with each other. The hospital scene had me tearing up a little though, wow. Great movie don’t know how I haven’t heard of it before.

James

My absolute favorite is John Q.... but this one is a close second.

Angelina Sargent

Hi Rob and Trin! You guys would love The Tragedy of Macbeth 2021, Denzel is incredible as Macbeth, nominated for three Oscars

Ben

Gerry Bertier is Opie from Sons of Anarchy. Looks different without the beard.

Ray H

Another banger. This week has been so good 🤌 The left side/strong side at the night practice makes me cry every single time. Also one of my all time favorite quotes is "Attitude reflect leadership, Cap'n." This is my favorite Denzel performance 🫶
