Mrs Doubtfire (1993)

No good parent should be prohibited from seeing their children but I never felt the issue here was just being a bad husband. I think co-parenting becomes extremely hard when you feel like the dad is settling in being 'the fun one' and avoiding responsibilities. The burden falls all on the mom or she feels like it is and therefore the trust is broken there By playing the strict nanny he started helping out the mom for real and the lesser strain on the relationship would have probably led to a different kind of separation if he had started acting like that sooner

"Help is on the way dear!!!"

Toys is amazing with Robin Williams as well. Too bad it is out of print. Great movie with Micheal Gambon, Joan Cusack, Robin Wright and LL Cool J

kimburley

Exactly not only shows up am hour early but was an hour late dropping them off then she gets on the defensive about it saying she doesn't have time for it. My child's mom is the same way and my mother was like that towards my dad when I was a kid and it just strikes a nerve

Ae Jae Meade

Oh Pierce Brosnan was definitely 39 in this film he's in his early 70s now. That's when you know you have good genes lol

Ae Jae Meade

Not much more needs to be said about Robin Williams' performance in this movie (probably one of his best). But Sally Field deserves just as much praise - her reactions, the way she can change tone on a dime (The whole time? The whole TIME? The WHOLE time!). Brilliance! I also appreciate that the writers chose not to have Daniel and Miranda get back together again. Divorces seldom reverse in reality and the conventional "happy ending" is such a Hollywood cliche. I've seen this movie probably a half dozen times and Mrs. Doubtfire's little monologue at the end always makes me start to tear up because it's more than saccharine...it's truth.

Aw, yes. I know that channel well. They confirmed everything I hated about Love Actually. LOL

One of the best ones I’ve seen is for Home Alone 😂

yes that too! I mean come on...what's wrong with the food. I bet they eat healthy stuff all week with their mother. So what's wrong eating that once a week.

Ninaofthe90s

The fact that she just barged into his apartment and made fun of the place and the food they were eating. Showing up an hour early as well to take the kids even though he only had one day per week with them

James

That hot dog joke in the beginning had me almost in tears I don’t know why. I don’t like Miranda, not sure if it’s because of personal experience with some who acts like that. Like she comes an hour early to pick up the kids which she shouldn’t just do without a heads up, she enters his apartment for no reason then starts criticizing the place and the fucking Chinese food they were eating. It was Basically a day after their divorce hearing and she’s already trying to get with another guy. It couldn’t have been more than a month or 2 at most and she’s already trying to kiss him and going on dates with her kids. The divorce hasn’t even been finalized yet and she’s doing this

James

This is indeed amazing. Thanks for sharing it.

Robin Williams was so amazing. My sister worked a catering gig at his house and had a rew minutes with him. She said he was sweet and genuine and incredibly kind to "the help". Just an amazing soul and the world was made better by his presence. I've found that the most creative comedians make incredible actors, I think because they are such keen students, not just of human nature, but of people and they are incredibly sensitive to the people they encounter. One of Robin's best friends was Chrisopher Reeve, another beautiful, courageous soul whose passing devastated Robin. This profound empathy was part of what made Robin such a remarkable dramatic acter as well as a comedic one. He's won 1 oscar and been nominated for 3 others and won or been nominated so many other awards. I won't name the films here so as not to spoil anything but a number of them have been suggested. A similar example of this type of comedian is Jim Carey who's played some amazing dramatic roles. Steve Carell is another, with a string of dramatic roles that are all exceptional. Beyond this, I'd forgotten how good this movie is. Sally Field was great and Pierce Brosnan is as charming and appealing as he has been since Remington Steele ( dating myself here). A great start to March. Thanks everyone. 😎👍

"If he would've put in even half of the time & effort to his marriage/kids as he did dressing up, they might've saved the marriage. " it's not about him saving the marriage, it's about him being a Dad! And she confuses those two things.

Ninaofthe90s

not in a million years do I side with her. Not as a kid or a 34 year old. Yes he was a terrible husband, but you can be a bad husband and a great dad at the same time. And even though he was a bit irresponsible - he has always been a great dad. Which is why the kids are so crazy about him. But she totally confuses her marriage with him and him being a dad. Even when he's doing so well, got a great apartment, he's cooking, making money and he dares to ask for more time with the kids. She's like "no I can't take the kids away from Mrs Doubtfire". Like the housekeeper is more important for the kids than their Dad. Who needs fathers when you have Mrs Doubtfire. Let's just replace him. It frustrates me to no end. and even though I always loved this movie, it's very hard to watch for me. I also speak from a little experience because I had a mother who constantly tried to keep me away from my Dad because their relationship didn't work out and she was angry with him. And he was just as angry with her. But as a kid, I don't care about that, I just want to spend time with my dad. Everytime I asked her why I can't see him more often she would say something like " You should understand, he never made time for me, were were alaways fighting bla bla bla" And I thought what's that got to do with me? Why do I have to suffer because of that.

Ninaofthe90s

Miranda is making it very hard for me to like her sometimes. Yes he was a bad husband But you know you can be not the best husband and be a great father at the same time. But it seems like she confuses the two things. I have to remind myself that she doesn't know that he's Mrs Doubtfire, so she plans to replace their father with her. Even when he's doing better - making money, cooking, the place looks great - and he's asking for more time with the kids - she's like "no I can't take the kids away from Mrs Doubfire." Because apparently the housekeeper is more important for the kids than their Dad. It frustrates me to no end. I like that she came around at the end but geez some of those scenes were hard to watch for me. I also speak from a little experience because I had a mother who constantly tried to keep me away from my Dad because their relationship didn't work out and she was angry with him. But as a kid, I don't care about that, I just want to spend time with my dad.

Ninaofthe90s

Pierce was born in 1953, so probably was 39 or 40 hehe

Jenny Lee Villanueva

Love this movie. It could have been very different though. If you have time, check this out. They make a trailer for Mrs. Doubtfire as a horror film instead of a comedy. And it’s amazing. https://youtu.be/1Ckv_Dz-Sio?si=ghpnt5loWDmS51u2

Ray H

As an adult, I totally side with her now. If he would've put in even half of the time & effort to his marriage/kids as he did dressing up, they might've saved the marriage.

k4rizz4

Wasn't expecting it this soon, been a long time since I've watched this movie, but I remembered that it was a heartfelt funny Robin Williams type movie, he does the heartfelt stuff as well as he does the comedy, hopefully at some point you will get to see patch Adams, Jack, or awakenings brilliant movies with Robin Williams pulling at your heartstrings

Kim Magee

You ate my begonias!

Ben

Me, too. I would love if they could get around to watching The Fisher King someday. It's one of his best.

Stephanie Bedworth

I miss Robin Williams 🥺🥺

Ninaofthe90s

I'd kind of like to watch this one but Cinebinge reacted to this one recently and I tried to get through it but only got about 40 minutes in before I had to turn it off. I'd forgotten how much Sally Field's character annoys me.

Stephanie Bedworth

I watched this a lot as a kid. It'll be a nice bit of nostalgia.

Amber B.

I was thinking to myself, I can't wait to see this next week. What a treat for it to come so soon. An iconic classic!
