Okay I just subscribed again because I saw you reacted to this. You NEED to watch society of the snow from this same director. It's so amazing

Oriana Lo Presti

this is a rough watch but I would also recommend another true story by the same director called Society of the Snow!

codenamewitch xx

That was a VERY rough watch. Glad I watched it, but I don’t think I could ever watch it again.🥺

Beware The Jabberwock

First class acting all round in this one - Tom Holland was fantastically good. I think it’s the acts of kindness that make me cry most in this movie. The man pulling Maria to safety, the women who dress her, the guy lending Henry his phone, the woman who hugs him as he cries. And of course Ewan McGregor on the phone to his father-in-law - holy crap he’s good at crying on screen!

Laura Dawson

I remember this vividly because of the Christmas season. Tragedies seem to be magnified during a holiday. It was referred to as the Indian Ocean Tsunami as it created deadly waves in 15 countries, not just Thailand and the waves were generated by a 9.1 earthquake near Sumatra.

Cindy

I felt like I was welling up the whole movie! Incredible story! Those 3 boys were amazing at such a young age

AlexH88

(Only a couple minutes in.) @Rob: Tom Holland wasn't THE Billy Elliot kid. He wasn't the one in the movie adaption. However, he has been A Billy Elliot kid, playing the part for almost two years in the West End musical. So, yes, Tom Holland has a strong gymnastics and ballet background, which explains a lot, I'd say. ;) Oh, and: What's up with these subtitles? They're so terribly off.

Kathrin Lembcke

The acting from Lucas (Tom Holland) was incredible, not many movies or TV shows make me tear up but his whole dynamic with his mom had me actually crying

James

So so happy to finally get to watch one of my favorite movies with you guys. Thank you! Tom Holland is absolutely amazing in this one. When this tragic disaster happened Sweden got very much involved since we lost more than 500 people.

Anna Möllervärn

Since the moment she stars screaming Lucas! I can't stop crying... At the time I watched it the first time I thought about the kid in my belly, hence the crying almost 8 years after... thinking as a mom and my kid been Lucas very much because of this movie... Tears steaming down my face pretty much the whole time. Thank you for the reaction, it was "good" revisiting it with you two and the community.

Naomi Watts may have gotten all the plaudits, but Tom Holland really carried this movie...talk about a breakthrough role. Recently watched a docuseries about this tsunami and apparently there was no warning system at the time because the Indian Ocean isn't as susceptible to tsunamis as say the Pacific - the first place to realize there was even something going on there was a observation station in Hawaii and they had to individually contact all the affected areas, some after the waves had already hit.

This movie was so good. I remember watching it and thinking, all 5 of them survived…that’s impossible ……🫨. I can’t imagine something like that happening to my family. It’s terrifying!!! But I do remember when this happened, I think it was the first time I really realized what a tsunami was and much destruction and death it caused. I always thought it was just a giant wave that affected beaches. It blew my mind !!

Michele G

We remember it now after we looked it up. Just had the Japan one stuck in our heads cause it was more recent.

We went to Thailand about a year after the Tsunami, We used to go and go to a place on the beach called the boat bar in AoNang in Krabi, It was literally set up on the beach and we expected it to be gone but when we went there it was still there, and we asked them how it had affected them and they said the water came in and just some of their beach chairs got washed out and they had to go and get them back, so amazingly I guess it depends where in Thailand you were, there is a small island you can see from the beach called Poda island some died there but not very many, But yeah it's a very scary thought, But when this happened oh my God it was on the news constantly for I don't know how long, we've watched a lot of specials and stuff on it too. It's just so hard to wrap your head around

Kim Magee

We just never learnt about them, did captain cook, The dinosaurs, Aboriginals, wars, Egyptian history, I don't even know when the last major tsunami was before the boxing Day. Tsunami, most people over here had never seen one, that was where all the things started getting put in place for safety

Kim Magee

How can you not remember this ? It was all over the news, just after Christmas. I was 13 years old and it traumatized me. Around 250 000 people died, it’s so horrible !

ptitepeluche05

How do you not learn what a tsunami is in school or just even as a kid ?

Raphael Lyons

I didn't even know what a tsunami was when this happened. My husband did but I had never heard of it

Kim Magee

Tom hollands acting was phenomenal. He had me on the verge of tears a few times just because of how real his reactions were to seeing his mom suffering. His storyline with the mom was by far the best part of the movie I just kept putting myself in his shoes and I couldn’t even imagine the stress he’s under in these hospitals with his dying mother.

James

we were in the Cook islands once when a tsunami hit. But luckily because of the reef it had very little effect but watching a movie like this really makes you think. Oh my God

Kim Magee

This is such a great film and the fact that it's based so closely on a true story is unbelievable

Kim Magee

So the family was interviewed about how accurate the movie was and since they worked so closely with the film there was only a couple things that the movie didn't get right... the 1st one was that the color of the ball was actually yellow in real life, not red... The 2nd thing was they never actually got any closure on what happened to Daniel after they were pulled out of that tree. There is also some YouTube clips where you can watch the making of them filming the tsunami scenes and it looks so amazing and fun, they built this like lazy river. And all the hospital scenes were filmed in the actual hospital this all took place in. Those are my fun facts for everyone. Also Tom Holland legit blew my mind with his acting. He was amazing. I've never seen him in anything else but I legit think he was the best child actor I've ever seen.

Angelina Sargent

Just rewashed the hunger games. When are you watching songbirds and snakes?

Rigs216

this is such a good movie. brings me to tears every time. I really hope you guys will get to watch 'Society of the Snow' by the same director. It's another true story disaster movie & def one of my fave "based on a true story" survival films of all time.

minkit

The reunion scene at the hospital gets me every time 😭

Cynthia

Tom Holland was in fact in Billy Elliot 😂

Cynthia

This was my first time watching this. I wasn't prepared for this. It was so intense. I was tearing up through most of it. It would have gutted me if the mom died. The acting was top notch. Great film. Thanks for suggesting it.

Bradley Weeks

time to grab the tissues!

blorgins

I love this movie. It makes me cry so much lol. Thank you guys for the reaction 🥲
