FIRST TIME WATCHING: edward SCISSORHANDS

Comments

I wonder if they'd like "Benny and Joon" or "What's Eating Gilbert Grape"? Two more movies with quirky Johnny Depp characters.

Michelle

This my first watching this. It was more than I expected. I cried 😢 at the end knowing Edward would never know lasting love. If it was me, I would make it a family tradition to visit Edward a few times a year so he wouldn't be lonely and as my family grew, I would incorporate them too so for generations down the road would continue the tradition!

I love Ed Wood so much. I wish more would watch it. I guess to really appreciate it you have to know your Hollywood history a bit. Martin Landau was amazing. I still recall standing in a long line for a midnight screening the night before it opened... they gave out cool t-shirts that I wish I still had.

Octavia

This was the first collaboration between Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. A couple of years later they worked together again for "Ed Wood" (1994, great movie), then "Sleepy Hollow" (1999), "Charlie and the chocolate factory" (2005), "Corpse Bride" (2006), "Sweeney Todd" (2007), "Alice in Wonderland" (2010) and "Dark Shadows"(2012). This was also Johnny's first main role in a movie. (besides Cry-Baby). Before that he had only smaller roles and of course the tv show 21 Jump Street. But I think we have to thank Tim Burton for giving us the Johnny Depp we know and love. I mean he's just so good. He played a lot of weird characters but in this movie he's also so shy and quiet...it's actually crazy to me that he's also Capt. Jack Sparrow because Jack is such an extrovert. I love Burton and Depp as a team and I hope they work together again.

I always loved this movie plus I love Johnny depp. The father is definitely the unsung hero of this movie though. For reference women like these do exist/ have existed in America it’s horrifying to think about but some people are genuinely that shallow and boring

James

I love how the father (Alan Arkin) is so unaffected the whole time...like everything that's going on is just normal.

Michael Celia

Also Danny Elfman's music score is just so beautiful and sad...one of his best works ❤

Ninaofthe90s

omg thank you! it was so familiar.

Well that was a fun reaction but I just want to point out you guys picked this movie, not us, you and Trin picked the sad movie :p lol

Kim Magee

Yep Anthony Michael Hall

Johnny Depp is soooo cute in this movie. He doesn't have much dialogue, but his eyes are so expressive. I absolutely adore Edward. I watched it for the first time when I was 12 in 2002 and I became a huge Johnny Depp fan. That was it, I was in love. And also a huge fan of Tim Burton. You need to watch Sweeney Todd - and Big Fish (not with Johnny Depp but still fanatastic)

Ninaofthe90s

The real Pinocchio, not the Disney version, is quite a dark tale. Most fairytales were. Tim Burton excels at capturing the magic in the shadows and the scary in the light.

Octavia

You guys really need to watch Sweeney Todd, The demon Barber of fleet Street, it's another. Tim Burton and Johnny Depp and it is a awesome film

Kim Magee

Vincent Price did the voice & scary laugh part in Michael Jackson’s Thriller 👻

Michele G

This is a wonderful dark fairytale, and I love a fairytale at Christmas. I think it ended the only way it could. Edward experienced the best and worst of people. But he was also loved. Kim stayed away so Edward could be safe. Sad but beautiful. And he will always have the memory of her. ♥️🏰

Jan T

I think of it as a beautiful fairytale. If I think too hard about poor Edward I’ll get sad and hate it 😂 but he’s having fun trimming ice and making it snow for Kim and he knows what it meant to be loved 🩷

Michele G

He's hardly recognizable in this, but Winona's boyfriend in this was the nerd in The Breakfast Club.

Maggie Barbour

Haven't watched this in YEARS. I remember loving it when it came out, so I guess it's time to watch again.😁
