FIRST TIME WATCHING: The Wolf of Wall Street

Comments

Its a poor mans remake (I.E hollywoods) of The Infernal Affairs Trilogy, its literally Scorsese's worst ever movie and completely unoriginal.

PhoenixReturns

I only watched it for that πŸ˜‚ I'm not a fan of the film but I knew it was heavily R rated. X

Shelley

Lol understandable

Kim Magee

Kevin? Are you coughing up millions into charities , holding events for kids with cancer? No , Leo does though. I think we can forgive him a private jet or 2.

Shelley

People can have an opinion without being attacked over it not every opinion needs to be challenged ☺️

Shelley

The movie no, the main character yes

Kim Magee

Sure - There are always people who glorify this stuff. I mean..I personally love villains and anti heroes in main roles - they usually are my favorite characters. Some people love Tony Soprano - does that mean the show The Sopranos glorifies him. No it doesn't. But yes he is cool and he is a badass - doesn't mean that I aspire to be like him. Of course Scorsese shows how good life can be if you have this much money and power. And Belfort has charisma it's what you need when you make a three hour movie about the character. But Scorsese doesn't tell you "this is good" or "this is bad". He doesn't try to teach you anything. He just entertains. He shows all aspect of his life -and it's insane- During the entire movie I was basically shaking my head and laughing at the same time. ..But there are always consequences...or did people just ignore the fact that he loses his family, his fortune, his business and becomes an alcoholic and drug addict? How is that glorified. Scorsese makes movies about cool gangsters. I mean the first line of Goodfellas is "As far as I can remember I always wanted to be a gangster". Does that mean Scorsese glorifies being a gangster? No it doesn't. If you go into a movie with an anti hero or a villain as the main character like The Wolf of Wall Street - And you start moralizing - you missed the point. Which is precisely what happened here. Unfortunately. But you can't have everything I guess.

Ninaofthe90s

okay...but that has literally nothing to do with this movie.

Ninaofthe90s

I agree it's a great movie, awesome cast too

Kim Magee

The guy filmed a whole documentary about saving the planet that was so well done. It changed so many people's thoughts on many subjects, he invests his fortune in many companies supporting things like plant-based meat, science made meat, solar power, He has his own foundation to save the animals and the Earth, his social media is constantly raising awareness on issues, he works with future Forrest's to offset personal omissions , considering what the rest of us do while we fly around and use petrol and stuff, I think he's doing okay

Kim Magee

Leo's best acting, in my opinion, is The Departed. Please puck that as your personal pick next time. It's a PHENOMANAL movie. One of the best ever made!!! Trust me on that.

Lovaire Hawkins

Okay, yeah he probably does some of that stuff. Have you ever thought he offsets it too? Have you ever thought that he does more than the average person to help these situations regardless? Yes, he's got money. He's allowed to have a lifestyle

Kim Magee

No, not the movie, but the Press and society definitely have glorified this guy

Kim Magee

"helping animals and saving the planet" whilst he flies around in his private plane, charters $190 million dollar yachts and takes helicopter trips to have lunch with his friends.....what a joke

Kevin Przy

I'm sorry but if you think this movies glorifies anything especially Jordan Belfort and his lifestyle - you just don't understand Scorsese. He doesn't glorify or moralize. That's what made him great in the first place.

Ninaofthe90s

I just finished watching this reaction. And yeah I get how you feel about it completely. I love Leo. I like the movie but the guy himself and the fact that he is glorified kind of makes me feel sick. My husband used to talk about him like he was cool and I used to think no he's an ass. But yeah he's still alive and I do believe he has started making money again. Probably illegal. I think he's probably cleaned up his act to a point but yeah who knows

Kim Magee

I loved Leonardo DiCaprio after Titanic but it was next level when I realised his social media is all about helping animals and saving the planet. I love him. He is amazing

Kim Magee

I would love to see blood diamond on here incredible Leo film

Kim Magee

I love Leo, that is all

Kim Magee

100%

Kim Magee

speaking of the boys are you planning on watching s4 of the boys

Luke Morrison

I hope you guy pick The Departed next time… I love this movie as well but the departed is so much better

Daniel Minerva

Forehead of security killed me πŸ˜‚

Ben

aaaw I'm a bit sad you took the quaalude scene so seriously. And maybe the entire movie. I remember people nearly died laughing during the whole scene in the cinema. I was laughing so hard I couldn't breathe. It's just physical comedy at its best. Maybe the best acted scene in the movie. I mean yeah most of this shit is real, the whole movie is just excess, excess, excess. But what I love is that Scorsese never moralizes. He just makes great movies about charismatic criminals without moralizing the audience. He shows the good times and the bad times of their lives. That's his thing and he's the best at it. This movie was made in 2013 and I'm 100% sure it could not be made today. Because people are just offended by everything. Scorsese never cared about that, thank god, which is why he can make a movie like this so fucking hilarious. Sure it's got serious undertones, but it's still the funniest movie he has ever made.

Ninaofthe90s

He's actually in this movie. He introduces him to the stage near the end.

Sean Murphy

The real guy is still alive and making tiktoks lol

jrome reacts

I have long hair - but for 10,000 I would absolutely shave my hair!! It's just hair, it grows back.

Ninaofthe90s

As to what is true, you can read more online of course, it is interesting, but in short: most of it is all technically true - smuggling money to Switzerland, shipwreck etc. Most of it has been confirmed. It's just the degree of everyday madness that was portrayed in the movie was more in line with what Jordan wrote in his memoir, which according to many people involved was "exaggerated to suit his inflated self-image". There are some small detailes that happened differently like at the end: he didn't actually try to save Donnie (with the yellow note) but just flat out ratted everyone out.

Chris B

Yeah, if I were a one-person Academy, I would give Leo the Oscar, not for the Revenant, but a year earler for the Wolf...for sure.

Chris B

Enjoyed the rewatch, really is very entertaining. The real Jordan Belfort made a cameo, introducing Leo at the event in the last scene.

Elle

great movie

Milen Mladenov

Might be controversial...but this is my Favorite Scorsese movie. And I love his movies. Leo is so phenomenal in it. I've seen every movie he's done and that's his best performance. When I watched in the theater People were nearly lying on the floor during the quaalude scene because they were laughing so hard. Including me. People often miss how difficult it is to do physical comedy like this -or comedy in general.Especially from actors who are mose used to dramatic acting. Dramatic performances often get more recognition. But this was insanely well acted and I put it above every dramatic Leo performance. I have watched the movie many times since then and it's amazing every time.

Ninaofthe90s

The rewatchability factor isn't great with this one for me, but certainly a movie to watch and appreciate at least once. Also, I'm just a big fan of the pairing dicaprio-scorsese

FedeM

Crazy Deja vu, I could have sworn you guys already watched this ages ago.

Uga Engelhart

Had to come and comment about robs facial expressions in the first 10 minutes πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ he looked horrified x

Shelley

this is a classic!
